Learn all about WildStar's presence at this year's PAX East in our latest preview. We have the skinny from the presentation Carbine gave exclusively to press and fan-sites. See why this game won our Most Innovative award, and why it's quickly becoming a title to watch in 2013.
Housing is usually a feature you see come in post-launch (if at all) with most MMOs these days, but player housing is integral to the overall experience in WildStar. We were treated to an extensive demo of the housing system, and as someone who was an avid player of Star Wars Galaxies in its heyday, I can say that Carbine Studios has somehow managed to one-up SWG’s implementation. Sure, there aren’t player cities and you aren’t building your house in the open game world, but to say that WildStar’s housing is robust would be an incredible understatement.

From a personal standpoint, it's a step above for sure. Socially, I hear ya. I'd love to see neighborhoods but they would have to limit what you could do if anybody at any time could just walk into your yard.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
WildStar? No, I'm pretty sure it's been planned as F2P the whole time.
I am not so sure about that. It does say it will be on retail... Maybe it will be B2P!
I still wont hold high hopes for this game, every time I do the game ends up disappointing me. But I will give it a go when it goes live.
And Wildstar is going to be F2P title.
1) The environment seems to be more dynamic than most out there. Different environmental factors that directly effect the fighting and exploration of the area +1.
2) I like that you can set monsters off on each other (I've seen that in very few games). It takes planning.
3) I like their housing setup and art work.
4) I like developers that try to have fun.
Please do not do what Blizzard did and screw it up. Bliz had a good formula, but now they have caca. I have hope for this one. It REALLY looks FUN and I miss fun. So many games are boring. More work than play.
-1) 40man raids are BAD. Great content, but the human (idiot) factor is a bust.
Can't wait to see how this one progresses.
F2P doesn't make sense with the amount of investment that's gone into this. The game simply has too much depth and too many systems (that would have cost a lot to develop) for them to be able to sacrifice the immediate returns from box sales. There's a reason the only quality F2P games available didn't originally launch as F2P...
I agree, I have been waiting on a good sci-fi MMO and this one looks fun.
Fully expecting and wanting Wildstar to be subscription.
MMOs that launch as Free to play are usually announced as such because the cash shop is usually a pervasive part of every aspect of the MMO.
Buy to play is also not common among MMOs. GW2 launched as buy to play because of the personal philosophy of ArenaNet and Defiance launched as buy to play because its primarily a home console game.
I like the housing in Wildstar and definitely do NOT want to see "Framed portrait of your character - 100 coins, Raid boss trophy - 250 coins, Metal Maw house pet - 1000 coins".
Even though the quest system might be a bit like WoW(Hard to have fun with those after events) maybe they did something different I heard they got different type of quests, but if this game turns out to be B2P, I sure will give it a go.
I also hate it has the trinity(or does it?) cause that is a time sink and not [needed] to make a great MMORPG. Though yea I'll suppor the B2P movement nonetheless, subs need to DIE as long as games use the [same model] as GW2.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
For those saying that the game will be F2P, that's bullshit. Carbine hasn't announced a business plan for WildStar yet. It's still up in the air whether it will be subscription, B2P (ala Guild Wars 1/2 with a cosmetic/convenience cash shop), or F2P.
Me personally, I've always enjoyed the B2P model that the Guild Wars franchise followed so I'd love to see WildStar follow that route as well.

if this game is f2p I am going to cry. a lot. nothing worse for a person who only wants to play 1 game than to have to spend 1/2 their time deciding whether to buy bag slots or character slots.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already
I support B2P with a small cash shop for NON-p2win items.
However, I like the trinity and beyond. Just healer, tank, dps is too simple. It was better when they had CC, pullers, etc.... It gives purpose, team work dynamics, and a non-zerge hysteria.
Instanced housing.....yeah, surely that "one ups" SWG.
It's a linear themepark MMO with cartoony WOW style graphics....surely that will garner it critical acclaim and a mass audience.
Combat is basically avoid the red square. Every monster telegraphs their moves and it is your job to avoid it. That might be fun once and a while, but not for every mob. And you don't even have to think, just dont be in the red area.
If this game is not F2P, it has no chance. It has no chance anyway being a WOW clone in an era where WOW is the red square of death.
I'm interested aslong as it's not a F2P-title and if they're going to offer open world PvP in the contested areas.

Good question. Hi Bill. Great show btw.
OH! Speaking of challenges....PLEASE do not show where quests items are on the map or mini map. No arrows, color areas, skulls, etc.... What ever happened to reading, exploration, and finding solutions. Let me experience a challenge PLZ.
