Want to know why this game is #1? I'll admit its not for fun, it does get boring at times. Its for community, depth, and what it has the ability to become in the future. Its has one of the most mature communities in any MMO atm. This is becuase of a very steep learning curve and the fact that kids dont care about depth as much.

The market system is amazing, unlike any other game. CCP is a great company and they knew how to setup a stable player-based market.

I think one of the main reasons i stick with this game is the depth, which is unbelievable. There are so many backstories, the game itself has no limits. They player allainces have so many politics in them, its a PVP system unlike any other game's. In the future CCP could do amazing things with this game. They are planning to make a seperate server for china. That server will have new races, ships and a new map. When china gets a chance to catch up they are planning to join servers together and one of the biggest MMORPG wars will break out. 100k on each server against each other, and from different countries too. The old alliances will be forced to work together in one of the first West Vs East games.

that sounds like a bad idea to me for 2 simple but very important reasons.

    1) language barrier.

    2) time zones

i just don't see how that would work.

I think what he was really trying to get at was that in eve, the possiblities are endless. You can be whatever you want to be, do whatever you want to and generally live a second life as it were. It is without a doubt, the most complex mmo out there at the moment. Not to mention that CCP are an excellent company and they really do listen to the players and dont do just random stuff.

language is unnecessary(wow for example, horde and alliance cant talk to eachother)

timezones- pfft, mmorpg freaks dont sleep

the idea is awesome, but sounds more like content for EVE2=P

every game with RvR kinda stuff wants to battle USA vs China vs Korea or some shit like that; i dont really see it happening...

i've personally never really gotten that far to see any pvp in eve; i just like that they've emerged from the space mmorpgs as the winner....i support the scene; and hope the best for them- EVE is one of the most solid games out there.....to each their own

also, traveling in space isnt probably fun irl.....alot of dead time....like driving cross-country, the idea seems awesome, but half-way yur like, "wtf, are we there yet?"

true, horde and alliance can't talk with each other in WoW, but then there isn't the possibility for them to join forces, like you could in EVE, unless EVE makes it so that the Chinese are the Horde of EVE and the U.S. or english speaking countries are the Alliance of EVE and they can never be in the same corp together or play for the same side.

do you see what i'm getting at?

they'll never put such a restriction in eve. whatever they do they will keep it open ended. some chinese corps might join forces with the europeans and vice versa. the diplomacy and oportunities in such a situation will ROCK ::::08::

i see a lot of people saying eve is such a bad game because it is boring.

yeah man, you know what? most of my college friends think that "The Godfather" is a boring movie. they cant even watch 10 minutes without mourning. So, should American Pie be a better movie than the godfather? is Apocalypse Now a funny movie? or 2001, a Space Odissey? i remember first time i saw Dumb&Dumber. i think i have never laugh so much again. but i would never say that is best movie ever. it is not even on my top ten list.

i am sure a lot of people know about championship manager, now football manager. in fact, most of my friends say it is boring. for me it is awesome. they prefer Fifa. for me football manager plays in a completely different league. it is ten times deeper, and i enjoy much more winning the second division league with my football manager team than wining the champions on fifa. my friends say that waiting 10 minutes for the computer to process a complete week is f***ing boring. and watching little dots move and not being able to move them manually is not playing. i also enjoy fifa or pes, but i find them boring after 2 or 3 matches. yep, boring. it is always the same. but then, footbal manager is much more interesting. each game is completely different from the previous one... yes, most people say it is boring...

strategy. nowadays people say that age of empires is strategy. or warcraft. no, that is "lets see who clicks faster" game. strategy is combat mission, panzer general, even civilization or europa universalis, or Rome Total War, but not starcraft. but then, most people think that combat mission is boring, panzer general is boring, civ is boring, europa universalis is boring, and warcraft is cool. does it mean age of empires is a better game than combat mission? not for me, at least.

RPG (role playing game): so, i guess most people think that roleplaying is questing. if not, how can they bare with a thief that can not steal other players? or an assassin that can only kill orcs? that is a big problem, people think that diablo is a roleplaying game. come on, it is double dragon with skills, or golden axe with nice graphics.

so what about books? has anyone found Ulyses fun? or War and Peace (i think that is the name, i just translated from spanish). is hamlet funny? maybe most intellectuals are wrong, and the best books out there arent El Quixote, or Maquiavelo, cause they are so loooooooooong and so boring. yes, the best writer on history must be Michael Crichton, or Tom Clancy. Lets forget about Virgilio, Homero, Steinbeck...

so, has anyone got my point. i will explain it for those that play WOW (just jocking ::::35::, i really dont think intelligence has got nothing to do here). i think that best things (on every category, books, movies, games, art) are not always the most fun. of course, there are exceptions, but usually, best comes with deph. and, sorry for all of you, EVE is one of the deeper mmo on the market right now, if not the deepest. i can only think of A Tale in the Desert, or Galaxies two years ago. but for sure it is deeper than EQ (1&2), WOW, GW, City of Heroes, DAOC

I've played WoW and Eve. WoW was awesome, such potential.... But then when I was around lvl 15 or 20 world pvp was eliminated with DK's and everything became neat and tidy with battlegrounds. I hit lvl 60 and got bored. I didn't want to run instances over and over. And I really didn't want to do battlegrounds. I'd sometimes go and solo raid a town like sun rock. But I knew I could never take it over, or eliminate quest-givers and vendors due to DK's and a guard zerg.

I saw Eve Online and decided to try it out I looked over the forums looked at the guides and saw it was very complex. It sounded quite interesting. I found it to be alot of fun. I enjoyed the skill system; it allowed me to be in bed and still progress. =P The graphics were brilliant. 6,000 explorable systems, and so many choices for my character to progress. I could be a Trader, Pirate, Miner, Manufacturer, or run a corporation and wield vast control over solar systems. I could wage war and destroy other corporations, taking over their stations. I could blow someone to kingdom come, they would suffer for it, and I could loot their ship. The game could of course use improvements like all games. But

Eve Online is very unique compared to the rest of today's popular mmo's. A unique system of character progression, complex and open ended. PvP means something in the game. And those who win PvP gain from it. The game can be boring when you have long jumps, but its nice to know that your not losing time where you could be "grinding." Eve Online suits me. WoW was nice, and had much potential, but I didn't enjoy endgame. Maybe when Burning Crusade rolls around, I'll check back on it.

Popularity 99.9% of the time doesn't equate to quality. It's mostly just a litmus test to single out the lemmings.Besides that, I have this hunch that some people have kind of bumped the scale on their favorite game by being a little less than honest. Call me suspicious if you like.

I think you hit one of the largest nails on the head.... All the little "Ub3r L33T d00ds" out there rate their game , typically WoW or EQ3 from what I have seen, and then go into the other forums and post all 1s because the game "suxors." The scoring on games is very trivial at best as long as people aren't really honest about games they like or don't like.

Personally I couldn't stand EVE. I played it during one of the free trials, and just couldn't get into it. However, I rated it in at about a 7 or 8 (can't remember offhand) for many of the reasons already listed.

Rankings are a joke, GW (a good game) spent quite some time on top and it is not even a MMORPG.  Kind of odd for a site called MMORPG.com right??

As it stands right now, politically and technically, the servers will never merge.

China enforces it's own control over the games played in the country, hence the need for a seperate chinese server in the first place. Given the fact that they won't give up control either for a long time to come, the server will not be merged - simply because that would mean giving all that control to people outside the republic.

Hillmar's answers in the interview in question are not exactly fact. The E-ON interview which he did shortly after the china intervew (i think) already states that there's only a distant possibility for merging, nothing definite.

I'd also be against merging anyway.... at least for now.
