Community is really good. As for players...well one reason for the tight knit community is the lack of new players since 2001. Probably a few thousand subscribers with maybe close to 1000 on during very peak hours. Definatly small but theres still enough action, for my tastes at least.
The community is really good, I hardly see any bashing of people on text chat. When you are new, your name tag will be green showing all around you that you are new. Ask questions, ask all types of questions. People will respond in kind (assuming its not a pitched battle going on).
There is also a help channel that you can tune to. Veteran players monitor this channel and offer advise/help those who ask. The learning curve is steep in this game, but the players around you will be willing to help because they have all been new at one point.
For the population question, it will not be a WOW type population where there are thousands all around you. The game has a max player visual limit of between 64 to 128 people. There is a setting you can change if your system can handle the max player vis limit. The time of day also determines the number of people playing. During US prime time, you wont have a problem finding a big battle going on somewhere. During Asia prime time, you will. All other time periods are a crap shoot.
They are re-releasing this game next month in Europe and in US. The hope is to draw in more players from the Euro times and get a boost in population.

Isn't it true that new players normally get questions answered and help by veteran players? Isn't it true that several veteran players invest a LOT of time manning the help channel as volunteers or trainers on the training server? Writing guides and answering all kind of questions in the forums?
Isn't it true that player population varies during the day? That a lot of adults play this game, among them many ex-military, flight sim freaks or wwii history buffs?
Can't see any false or misleading information here...and You should know better plummerx!
----------------------------------- Life is too short to play bad games.
Last time I played this game was several years ago. I started again some weeks ago, noobified.
So far people from all possible squads have helped me, giving me lessons in flying, letting me ride as a tailgunner etc. They have also helped me learning some moves on the training server. Such a simple thing as getting all your questions answered is unusual, but I have asked about everything publically in the chat and gotten answers (from several persons) every time.
All in all I have never ever seen a community as mature and helpful as the one around World War II Online. I love you all, and I want to marry you.
How come nobody wants to tell him that hardly anyone is left playing this game? That you only get the sensation of numbers because attack objectives push those left into increasingly small portions of the map?
How come nobody wants to tell him that off peak, the numbers can drop to below 200, and that 7-800 in primetime is a very high number these days?
Are folks going to be helpful? They better be. Help them help you by learning offline and on the training server.
Mature? Well, the heavily moderated official forum might make you think so.

I have been playing this game for a month or so, and everytime I have logged on there are a several places where the fighting is hard. I face loads of enemy aircraft, and I am constantly flanked by big amounts of friendly aircraft no matter what part of the front I fly over. When I look down from my cozy little plane I am met with the sight of fierce fighting on the ground being fought by a huge amount of players. This also regardless of which part of the front I choose to fly over. I have never been met with a rude answer, all my questions, no matter how stupid, are always answered by helpful people.
Then I ask myself, do i care whether those are the same hundreds upon hundreds of players, or not? The answer is no, I still experience battle in a way which no other game has to offer. In the end, I am there to enjoy the game. Not to tell the developers what I feel the game should be like, and then being annoyed when they choose not to follow my opinions.
And let me tell you, I am having the time of my life in this game. The way it's supposed to be.

There is a cross-section of mature and young players. The average age 18 months ago was around 27-30 for Axis and 29-32 for Allied players. The community is small. No one is denying that.
There are a lot of disolutioned players and ex-players about who have made their views more than known, the guys like myself who big up the game and developers get called Fanbois. I guess you'd call them Hatebois. Each unhappy member of the community has a piece of the puzzle that annoys them, one persons hated item is another persons gleeful gibbering excitement in game.
The actual subscription figures are not known, I've heard what are alleged official figures, but couldn't give my source away and they are low, but not low enough so as to put the company in jeopardy.
CRS have walked a fine tightrope over the last 4 years I think they can still wobble their way to a larger playerbase, the game evolved into what all the vet players demanded, they demanded structure, they demanded the Tiger, they demanded to get into towns faster, demanded bigger fights and improved graphics and when it was delivered they threw their toys out of the pram not wanting it.

Those stories are outright lies then.
When I first started playing this game I accidentally subbed after the free trial and when I submitted a helpticket I was personally given back my money for my time. I had no right to my $15 back, but the people doing support and running the game went as far as to give me my money back after a mistake on my part. They wouldn't go the extreme opposite and charge if you unsub. I've unsubbed and resubbed several times, never had any undue occurences.
Stop making things up, go back into your hole you mole.
Ok first things first , CALM down rabid fanboi , i was charged for 1 month after i had unsubsribed so no i am not making it up as you state , this game is a complete pile of garbage and i will continue to tell others about it being so.

I'm not sure how you magical fairies tell emotion over the internet, but I am calm.
You'd best suit yourself to stop making multiple accounts to complain because it only fools the ones stupid enough to make false claims in the first place. The game is fun, and anyone who has played will mostly likely attest to that, the only people who seem to have a personal hatred of the game have a personal vendetta against the makers and no solid facts to back up their claim.
You're just a troll, and a bad one. If you are going to spam forums, learn to do it right.
If you're gonna believe all official forums of games all games stink. People tend to post negative feedback more than they post positive feedback. That's not just in this game, but in all games.
This game has a lot of potential. If the launch is succesfull the server will be filled again soon enough. And as for 'veterans leaving', well, there are still quite a few around, and my guess is that there are more of the 'day one' veterans around in WWII Online after 4-5 years than in any other game on the net after that amount of time.

From where did you pull these figures?
I would say that the average age on the Axis side always has higher compare to the Allied side.
The last time I saw reliable figures on this was from a poll where the players themselves stated their age. If I recollect correctly was the average age around 31.4 years for the Axis side and 31.2 years for the Allied side (or something similar).
The main point is that difference between the two sides was marginal, and the average age was rather high compared to most other game that is mainly played by "Yopaks" (Young punks and kids).

That's nothing to do with the actual game. It's a publisher deal and it isn't even something new. The european version lacks the map simply because of space in the box. The US version will have all of the features listed to go into the US version. That's that.
Forum membership is listed at 60,000 - there is one account for every account created.
That number has risen from 50,000 six months ago.
On an average night US prime time, there are proly a 1000 players on across the map.
One thing of note, these boards have a couple of serious wiiol haters. If you look at the critical comments they are almost all coming from the same few people. Most of them got banned from the game/community forums for starting stuff.
There are free trials often, and you can download the game client for free and try it off line any time you wish.
Go play it for yourself and see if you like it. Its a complex game and not all people find it enjoyable due to the amount of crap you have to learn and the fact that there can be periods of down time when moving equipment or before a serious attack/defense gets underway.

You mean the very calm period before when all hell breaks lose? That is almost the best and exiting time in the game. When you and some hundred other players sets up the attack or defences around or in a town, setting up recon, cutting of the defenders supply routes from adjacent towns, or ambusing the attacker build-up tank colomns far behind their frontline und so weiter, that is very thrilling in my opinion.
This phase can be the difference between a successful or disastrous attack. If the defenders is organised well enough can they even stop an attack before it gets the chance to be commenced. Behind the lines operations never gets much attention since they are done along supply routs far from towns, but they can be very effecient and rewarding.
To be successful when you attack must you have good supplys from the rear towns. And to do so must you and your friends move up the supply to the Armybases from where the attack will be launched. Just as in real life. Awesome!
A wargame without attrition is no wargame, it is a pointless fragfeast. But that is just my opinion.

Heh. Playing BF2 is something completely different than playing WWIIOL indeed. I play BF2 when I want action without having to think and WWIIOL when I want something more challenging. Both experiences are very different. As far as I'm concerned the only part that WWIIOL 'lacks' compared to BF2 is the graphic engine. It makes up with indepth gameplay which BF2 lacks (more or less).
