Well... I'm a hardcore WoW-player who got bored aswell.

And I saw many good reviews and ratings here about EVE ( Graphics 9.5 WOW! ) so I'm now into trial and I LOVE IT!!!
Everything is just more mature and more 'hard-to-get' here, especially the comunity and the chat.

Well I started playing Eve when the closure of Earth and Beyond was announced (love my spaceships image)  That was around March of 2004.  Most of my guild from ENB moved their seperate ways (SWG primarily)  with a good core group moving to Eve.  The move was great.  We had a fellow player from ENB who left about a year prior that got us all equipped out and provided an awesome boost to our start in Eve.  I played Eve until May of 2005.  I played GuildWars until August.  That's when I moved to WOW and am playing it today.  I will be back in the Eve Universe at some point.

WOW and Eve are two different types of games.  As has been stated in previous posts, Eve is hardcore and  can be nothing but adrenaline-pumping, wet-your-pants, space tactic action!  This all comes with PVP NOT the PVE.  I really enjoy PVE, I started missing that after a year and GuildWars didn't provide what I needed.  So, I'm playing WOW to fill that addi... err... need.

Both games have their strong points.

For Eve, you are immersed in space.  The place is HUGE!  Once you view the 3d map in-game it will hit you... there is a lot to see.  This exploration aspect of the game is a huge plus in my book.  Another plus is the open ended skills.  So you roll an Amarr.... you can still fly Caldari ships... you can still fire missiles or even projectiles.  Roll an Amarr, fly Minmatar!!  Corporate wars can also be good and bad.  If you are in a good corporation that works well together and is able to fund replacement of equipment well, then the losses incurred during battle can be overlooked (maybe not by your CEO though image)  The PVP is awesome!  If you aren't specced for what is coming at you (and it's difficult to know), you might be toast!  The PVP is tough but it is great.

For WOW, it's more fun for a casual gamer.  You are able to solo much of the content.  However, for instances, you need groups.  Find a decent guild and you should be able to have help available whenever you need it (http://www.guildportal.com).  For me, I enjoy a lot of the stories uncovered in the quests.  Also, the crafting in WOW is easy and doesn't require a lot of sacrifice.

    Now... the bad stuff...

Eve... hmm... I'll tell you why I stopped playing.  I stopped playing for two primary reasons.  I stopped playing because the missions became a grind and boring.  I would take a mission, complete it successfully, take another and then receive the first mission again!  This is what turned it into a grind.  Now, some of you might be thinking that killing mobs in WOW are a grind... you do the same thing over and over just with different skins on the MOBS.  It is only a grind if you make it one... you aren't absorbed into what your character is doing if you view it this way.  However, for Eve it is difficult for me to save the princess from a marauding pirate, then run some grain (or whatever the second quest may be) to a neighboring station.. only when I return the princess is captured again!! Rinse, repeat! (Note* This is only an example.)  The other bad aspect for Eve is the entire R&D process.  I played for thirteen months, my character performed R&D missions for eleven of those months.  No breakthroughs, no reward, nothing.  This is crap and this might be the SOLE reason I stayed away so long.  It is very discouraging and the entire system needs to be reworked or at least give prototypes for testing, let me know that you are making SOME progress at least.... just... something, not crap. image

WOW... I've been taking my time in WOW and haven't reached the end-game yet.  Based on everything I'm hearing... and from what I'm witnessing thus far (level 43 Mage); the end-game will become a grind for items.  This is not good.  As you are leveling it is a great feeling to get that new item, new recipe, new pattern, etc etc.  I just hope that when I reach the end-game I won't become disappointed and it becomes a grind.  As for gripes at my current level.  I don't actually have any yet.  I'm enjoying myself as I'm crafting, questing or helping out newcomers.  The end-game is what might become too much, but for now I'm having fun.

I would recommend playing both because both are great games.  You know what you like and you will make your decision based on that.

    Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the world of Mario.... image

I don't do missions in EVE very often, and I usually just do them to kill some things easily, since I"m only going through lvl 1 missions.  I spend like 90% of my time on EVE with my corp or doing things for my corp or alliance.  Even when I do any PvE I'm with some people from my alliance or corp on Team Speak, so it never seems like a grind.

Any missions in any MMO except for EQ2 and DAoC are rinse and repeat.  In WoW my first 20 missions were "blah blah blah kill x number of x monsters and bring them back".  However in EQ2 and DAoC you get missions when you're lvl 5 that will continue growing and expanding until you're max level.

I personally don't think you can really compare WoW and EVE, which is why whoever made this thread made it.  Because you can play both at the same time, because they don't compete with eachother.  WoW is fun if you want hack and slash, whats my next cool piece of armor type of gaming.  EVE is fun if you want a community you can live in.

I only wanted to provide some input related to my experience.  Basically, I would play both at the same time IF there wasn't a cost issue involved image

As for the Mario comment... hehe... that is one of the missions that sticks out in my mind.  There IS a pirate that captures a princess in Eve... lol... you have to find his hideout, kill x amount of x ships (only because you have to and not because the mission requires it image) in order to reach his hideout.  Return the princess and receive your reward!  Basically, I didn't like the fact that the majority of the missions the agents hand out are basically "reach into a hat to pick from x available missions".

Truth is... I do miss Eve and might begin alternating my time between WOW and Eve image

    Ask yourself this

Are you more into the Cartoon Network, fun graphics, light fun type of play?

Or are you more into Sci-Fi Channel cut throat capitalism and conquest?

WoW lays it all out for you and you just follow the bouncing ball from level 1 to level 60, it chops the world up into, OK this is horde and this is alliance and these areas are contested and these are battlegrounds, what you do and who you kill doesn't really change that.

In Eve they lay it out as OK this area belongs to this faction, etc. But that's only a small part. Then they say "OK there's 20% of the universe mapped out as relatively safe, now go kill each other for the rest of it". The Other 80% is controlled by Large alliances of corporations and they form sovereign areas of space, that often change hands (sometimes multiple times in one day).

Both are quality games and it really boils down to what you enjoy in a game.

They're both great games, I think they each have a very different style.

WoW is light-hearted fun, Eve is serious business.

Eve is awesome in that your actions really have some meaning - the opponent has real losses, you can conquer territory, have an effect on the market, forge meaningful alliances etc.

WoW is very transitory, nothing really has any lasting effect, its a one way road from lvl1 to lvl60.imageimage

You should stop doing missions and start making your own.  image  Pick a corporation to pick on and go have fun killing them while they're mining or something.  I hear that's always fun.
