Well, as I said at the beginning of my post, I wasn't so much trying to flame you as being not understanding how you found it boring. Especially if you play EQ, where, from my understanding, the entire high-end game is grinding and raiding with only a very few classes able to effectively solo. What class did you play? Some classes are PvE monsters, some are adequate but not fantastic, and some downright can't solo at high levels, although the latter are only a few (bards and certain druid specs in Hibernia, same with certain healing class specs in the other two realms also). Deathsight Necros, Animists, Bonedancers, Enchanters, Spiritmasters, Cabalists, Paladins and Wardens are all very good soloers in PvE. And as I stated before, stealth classes are excellent soloers in the battlegrounds if you have the patience to pick your fights.

So enlighten those of us who do enjoy the game....what exactly is it that bored you about the leveling? And if you tell me it was the grinding through task dungeons, then the game's not to blame, but your own unwillingness to explore and find new areas to level in and new things to see image.

ya you could argue the fact that i wasn't the right class for soloing (mercenary) but i didn't start daoc to solo. the thing was....if i wanted to group (pve) i had to do task dungeon's and i hated those.

i also had a cleric that i played but my second computer broke down so i couldn't dual box anymore effectively. but i think i have covered in my previous posts why i found soloing boring, i never made it to max level and i have heard it is great at end game but all my friends that started the game with me all left and we all decided to play eq2.

maybe it is because it is a old game, because i loved eq for a long time and it was a awsome game but i would never suggest anyone start the game from scratch now. its just my personal opinion, im sure there may be others that start the game, and they may love it but i am not one of those people unfortunately ::::21::

I am going to put it simply for you an others. If you are an EQ fan (or maybe even an SOE fan) then DAOC is not for you. It has nothing to do with the age of the game or the content, but rather with what might be called the "soul" of the game.

EQ is totally about PvE. It is about stuggling to keep your character alive with equipment gaining more power and items. It is about spending a huge amount of your life in the game. DAOC while having a good PvE element is not totally focused on PvE. Its PvE is not that developed and when they did try to add a huge amount of EQ like content they pissed off a huge amount of the subsciber base (like me) who fled EQ. If that is the type of shit I wanted to play I would have stayed there.

There are a lot of things to do both solo and group in DAOC. There are many groups on many servers doing other things besides task dungeons. You may not have found those people. I will explain one reason why people prefer them. It is simply because it is easy and one of the fastest ways to get to level 50. They want to get to 50 to RvR. They do not want to get to max level to go on Raids with 100+ people to try and get some item without dying or some new ability.

So if you want an EQ PvE game then this game might not be for you. It just depends on what part of the EQ experience you like. If you are someone who really loves that type of content then I would suggest you do the trial of DAOC first before deciding to buy the game because DAOC is made more for the people who hate EQ than as an attempt to court the EQ style fan.

Wow, thanks for this thread. I just quit playing SWG and EQ2 and was looking for a new game, with a community like this, I realize DAoC is NOT it.

The man simply said he found solo play boring. The op asked for opinions and he gave his, and he gets torched for it. Nice.

there is alot of truth in your post, that could be why i found the pve not very fun. however im going to use a comparison your probably not going to like but here goes ::::02::

wow is a game build for pvp but has awsome pve when your leveling up, the game is kick ass until you get lvl 60 then drops off. that is why i quit wow to try daoc(among other reasons) because i heard (from alot of different people) that daoc was the opposite of that, the end game is supposed to be really fun but leveling up isn't that great.

but as i said in a previous post i couldn't hack it that long, and also when i played eq i played on a pvp server so its not that i don't like pvp either.

but whatever, i have moved on from it....i like to try alot of different games anyways so its all good::::31::

Honestly I do not think WoW is built for PvP. It is an after thought and that is why it sucks. I see WoW as EQ on easy mode with cartoon graphics. Then to appeal to everyone they add PvP servers and then "battlegrounds" to go after the DAOC crowd. It is almost like the Wal-Mart of mmorpgs: They do not really do anything better than any other game, but they manage to provide something for everyone and with enough hype and it moving into your town almost everyone eventually starts to shop there.

Ok, the OP asked for some advice about classes, not people bitching at each other. Angerr was NOT bashing the game, he simply put that he found solo boring. Do you know hat those are called? They're called OPINIONS. Everyone has a right to one. Yes, you could consider me and a DAoC fanboi, but godamn, some of your people got so mad over angerrs OPINION it's just ridiculous. The poor OP asked for some advice, he got people squabbling and bitching at each other. Nice.

And you are helping how? Not to be sarcastic but if you had not bumped this up with another post it might have fallen down and be forgotten. (Of course my post is not helping that either.)

Further, the OP asked about class opinions and not opinions about soloing in DAOC. Those are two different things. Hence when people bring up extraneous comments are inviting confrontation. What would happen if a poster went into the WoW forum and someone asked about classes and then another poster said "don't play WoW because soling is boring. Go play game X."

I am simply explaining the problem we have here: A post asking for help gets off track by someone making an unneeded and unwanted comment that has nothing to do with the OP. As such it invites a lot of problems. You would not have had as much problems if the OP had asked for opinions on soloing or this was done in the main forum and not the DAOC forum.

So the best thing to do if we are not going to delete this thread is simply stop trying to blame people or talking about having a right to an opinion and let it drop. What happened in this thread has happened to millions of threads on millions of message boards over the past decade so just let it go.

true the OP wasn't asking my opinion on soloing in this game but i figured since i did the same exact thing he did, i would offer my opinion.

my intention was never to bash this game or start a flame war, next time i will know better not to give my opinions on the Daoc forum.

I guess what baffles most people inclusing me is how this guy you are defending thinks DAOC is "boring" compared to EQ.

Have you ever played EQ? He says he has...

Literally - Stand or Sit in one spot for HOURS at a time - pulling the same mobs over and over - to - GRIND GRIND GRIND - yah that's fun.

To this day I still can't believe I used to play that game.

Sorry the reason people are being hard on him, is because if he thinks lvling up was fun in EQ - then he doesn't know what fun is.

i know what "fun" is that is why i don't play either of those games anymore, how you going to tell me that i don't know what fun is if i don't play your game?

just because i don't have the same opinions that you daoc fandoi's have i don't know what fun is? lol good one!

i really wish this thread would die, please close this topic if you can it has gone way off cource.

Well, before it gets closed, let me add in that the way you, angerr, said it in your first post, it seemed to me that you were saying you WANTED to solo and found it boring. You later clarified it when you said the only groups you could find were in task dungeons. Ok, that makes a lot more sense to me as to why you would have found the game boring. I can tell you two things you did wrong though :).

First was to play an Alb...hehe. Most people who play the game wind up starting in Alb (thankfully I didn't make that error), thus you get people who range from incompetent jerks to very good players who are also great people to know. You get that to some degree in Mid and Hib also, but the variance isn't nearly as great. Second, I have a feeling you may not have joined the best guild out there to suit your needs. My guild in Hib makes it a point to regularly include even low-levels in some of our high-end raids, and especially after level 40 we drag people who aren't 50 yet with us around a lot.

To answer some of these other posts, am I a fan of DAoC? Yes, indeed I am. Am I a "boi?" I think not, I'm probably old enough to be the father of most of the people who post here. Yes I defend this game, because I'm tired of spoiled, whiney kids (and adults for that matter) who feel the need to cry about everything that doesn't please them, or because they can't go into "God mode" and win every fight in PvP (actually high realm rank/high master level/lots-of-artifacts people can and do do this, but that takes time most of these whiners don't want to invest.) I enjoy the game, and over the last 6 months people have been leaving in uncomfortably large numbers, largely because of the mistake Mythic made with ToA, which is finally going to be fixed in the next patch, hopefully. And I'm just tired of seeing the game bashed by either these whiners or people who played the 14 day free trial and didn't see enough of the game to make an informed decision.

DAoC is not perfect. There are a lot of issues that need to be fixed in all aspects of play. In 8 years of online gaming, I've yet to play a game which that couldn't be said about. But I do, nonetheless enjoy the game myself, and I can't see anything out there currently or on the horizon that comes close to the depth of some aspects and is as unique as DAoC is. It's surely not the greatest PvE game there is out there, it was never intended to be. But even for PvE, it's not too bad if you get out and see all the things it has to offer.

In conclusion, as said in each of my previous posts responding to angerr, I couldn't figure what you found boring about it. You finally clarified it, and now I understand. It's a shame though that you didn't play on Merlin in Hibernia and find your way to my guild...I'll bet we would have left you with an entirely different opinion image.

Good point. If you don't want to play in a community where people enjoy and support the game they pay their $15 a month for each month, we don't want you either image.
