make sure next time you put "in your opinion" because you can pretty much bet that majority of this site and others will never agree with you. A gear based system where skill hardly matters is hands down one of the worst pvp systems hands down. I play wow still to this day and FINALLY after expansion and expansion and constant arguing with idiots like greg street we can finally get rid of all the pvp stats on gear and make it a better experience.
In my personal opinion, WoW is boring as hell (repetitive and old) and I quit playing that game ages ago. I will agree that the PvP was extremely competitive, smooth, and fast paced. I'd still rate it at #1 on my list for PvP in an MMO even though I wouldn't go back to it if you payed me to.

Oh sorry. I'll start prefacing every post I make with IMO. Anyways, IMO WoW has the most competitive PVP. Is that better?

PVP.. ALL three if possible, i love battlegrounds & Arena's
I agree WoW is no.1 i just refuse to play it due to having to start from level 60, quite exspensive & way to much time catching up on gear.

SWTOR, Tera, Rift, Aion, etc.... take your pick really. I had a lot of fun in SWTOR, but rated queues took forever, so PVP was basically nothing more than pubstomping PUG BG's. I could play Huttball all day, but it gets boring unless you can get ranked matches. There's also no arena based PVP, which is the style I prefer the most. Rift is about the same as SWTOR, but also lacks arena last I checked. Tera and Aion are extremely heavily gear based and the gear cap in both games is not something you can grind out in a short amount of time, so don't expect to be competitive for a long while.

Cheers brah! SWTOR i am going to download tonight because i have been checking MMORPG.com daily, and SWTOR seems to be getting alot of attention again anyways. Would you say the BG's in SWTOR are pretty entertaining? also TERA & Aion i have tried at max level, both visually stunning games but obtaining pvp in both games is retarded IMP.

This sentence surprises me from someone who is an active player of WoW.
Do you play arena? If so, what rating?
I play WoW since day 1 with breaks (currently not subscribed, last active 2 months ago) and I have to say that in random BGs, it may be about gear, but the person you are quoting is speaking about competitive PvP which I would assume means arena and rated BGs. From my personal experience, in arena and rated BGs, the teams usually have similar gear, so that it is mostly skills that determine the outcome.
Your experience is probably different from mine.
It still doesn't really boil down to player skill. The best pvpers are all about the same skill but when you can predict the outcome based on what classes they pick and the only real upsets are when someone makes a mistake, it's still not really a "skill" based game.
That's the problem with every stat/gear based pvp system. It always removes some/all player skill.

Everyone is using the same gear in rated minus trinkets. Yeah, class composition makes a difference, but PVP isn't 1v1 and there's a lot of viable compositions.

I'm almost shocked anyone who is enjoys PvP could go back to tab target PvP after playing max level TERA, but to each their own I guess.

They're all 8v8, and I think they're all different enough to keep things entertaining. Huttball is awesome, and I wish more games had maps like it.

Given that top rated players are in the same gear, making the correct decisions with the information available to you at the moment requires skill and experience. I'm not sure why you would think otherwise. Perhaps you are working under the assumption that skill is always twitched based or something (which matters in WoW, but not nearly as much as it does in, say, Counter Strike).
I'm also not sure why you think that there is a problem with a system that punishes people when they make mistakes by allowing the opposing team to capitalize on those mistakes. How does that remove skill exactly? Both teams are still actively trying to pressure each other into bad situations. I don't understand where your logic comes from when making a claim like that.
Best PvP in a "MMO" ever in my opinion? Guild Wars 1. Then again, it's not an MMO if we go into details...
After that Guild Wars 1? In order from "best to worst": Rift, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan.
Guild Wars 1 and Rift just stand out with the amount of character customization, while Warhammer Online and Age of Conan were very restricted once you had picked a class. Same goes for DAOC.
Long story short? I hate locked classes and love versatility, in Rift you never knew wether that Rogue on the horizon was a healer, an "assassin" or maybe just some sort of an archer? Same went for Clerics and you couldn't even be sure that Warriors were always melees. And now Mages don't have to be ranged, there's a melee soul for them too.
Originally posted by DAOWAce Not an MMO, but look into Forge. It is basically WoW's PvP in a dedicated environment where gear doesn't matter, only skill; aka it's far superior.
I've played it and the gameplay itself is really sloppy. I dream of a game like Forge, but the execution has to be better IMO.

Where did I say a system that punishes people for making a mistake removes skill ?
What I said was if rogue sorc pali always beat warrior, rogue, priest ( classes are an example picked at random )when they're at the same skill lvl unless someone on team one makes a mistake you've removed skill from the equation. That's the problem with gear/stat pvp.
Back in my arena days the finals and top ranked teams were often the same make ups. When you'd start a team ppl would say cool you could probably get to xxxx rank with those classes. And sure enough...we'd cap out about that rank. Not what I'd consider skill based pvp.
when you consider non-mmo based pvp has much more to do with players than gear/stats it's hard to really consider mmo pvp anything more than just gear grinding.
Originally posted by simsalabim77 WoW has the most competitive PVP hands down. I can't think of a single fantasy MMO that has better PVP than WoW.
There's a difference between a lot of people playing something, and something having good PvP.
Literally almost any MMO has better PvP than WoW, which is stuck on.
Have you ever played ranked PVP competitively in WoW, or are you just another MMO hipster?
Ranked PvP in WoW is just like PvP in small scale non MMOs. Very simple, with a ton of meta strategy.
Bigger more PvP oriented MMOs have much more fulfilling full implemented PvP with a ton of factors, as well as skill.
A game that has me engage in politics, empire building, resource gathering, crafting, ambushes, territory control, and other conflicts that actually matter... are a lot more satisfying than just a rinky dink arena fighting game that a lot of people play.

Wow Is hardly the pinnacle of pvp. It's a game made by raiders for raiders.
If you really wanna enjoy PvP than play a game that is designed around that fundamentally, MOBA games.
LoL, Smite, games like these have PvP as their basis. The first GW would have been a good option, but the gameplay is overly simplified, so it's not that riveting, if they could go there and than give the combat more natural flow and better role relevance than they would have something much more appealing on an RPG format.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes.
