Hi,
me and my friends are starting to get bored of GW2 and Tera so we want to try a new MMORPG while waiting for Elder Scrolls Online.
As topic says there are 3 games who have caught our attention so the question is, which one would you guys recommend?
Comments
Short answer: Rift if you like raiding, TSW if you like a unusual setting and deep storylines and Neverwinter if you like action combat and small bursts of gaming.
Long answer: Rift is pretty much a WoW copy, a pretty damn fine one, but the basic concept remains. Some people like it, some don´t, but since it goes F2P not too long in the future, you may give this one a shot.
TSW is my personal favourite of those 3 and for a damn lot of reasons: a deep and experimental-freindly skill system and a modern-day setting dealing with all kinds of myths and overall international lore. Note it´s B2P, but it should be quite cheap to pick up.
Neverwinter is a fine game, but since I haven´t gotten to endgame on this one, I can only say that the gameplay is solid, a little shallow, but fun. Many complain about the overpriced cash shop, but since I don´t have an opinion on that one, better just mention it like that.
Hope that helps.
They are all good..and depending on your friends preferences..
If you like a game that is like the gameplay from WoW and EQ2 with a twist ..choose Rift, It has somewhat dynamic quests in the form of Rift events that spread across the map..But overall I think TRIONS new game Defiance is a much better game despite all the bugs and problems it had in the beginning,,
I would choose TSW thou...It is the game with highest overall quality , everything is voiced with high quality , it has an adult theme with a good plot and interesting story, and one of the best dungeon experiences there is for groups. It's also very unique in many places, with it's intriguing puzzle and crime solving quests..
Neverwinter is a fun game , but it's also the game that has by far the lowest quality, It has VERY little to do with D&D, If you like Dungeons and Dragons I would suggest the pen and paper version or DDO..
Thanks for the answer!
We like raiding so Rift seem to be the best choice right now.
Yeah you can't go wrong with either of those options. They each have some great things about them. I'm pretty torn between the three myself, although I'm having a GREAT time in Neverwinter so far.
Rift does sound like a good option to try out first though for that raid feel. Then do yourself a favor and taste the other two at some point as well.
Rift!
Also, you need to add if you enjoy exploiting Neverwinter would be your game of choice.
Rift is a solid fantasy themed MMO and TSW is a great modern day/horror type MMO...actually not sure that is completely accurate description; after all, TSW is a bit of a mix there. Anyway, both are good games for different reasons. In this case I think I would let setting dictate game play choice.
It is a false dilemma. None of these 3 requires a sub. Try all 3.
There is no reason just to play only one of them.
Correction:
There is no reason to play any one of them.
Here is one. Curiosity. Here is another. Want to play in a modern setting (TSW).
Neverwinter? nty, i ll pass.
RIFT or TSW? Both are excellent games but RIFT has an advantage already. By 12 of June will have one of the best F2P models in the market, while TSW is B2P. RIFT is a fantasy, while TSW is modern time mmo.
So if i was too choose between those 2, i ll choose RIFT because its of my taste (fantasy) and it has a better payment model
Rift or TSW.
Rift if you like raiding and more of a " wow like " experience. Which is actually a better wow like experience than WoW currently is.
TSW if you want a modern day, horror type setting. Also has Raiding and gear tiers at end game.
I play both ATM having just picked up the expansion for Rift and subbing for a month until the F2P transition comes next month.
Cant speak for NW, but it seems maybe to be a good casual game. Problems abound with this title currently which is why I have stayed away. Perhaps someone else who plays can give you better insight.
Ahh okay, we are sitting around and posting in a MMO forum and advising not to play MMO's.
What ever to OP, Rift is fun for sure, but has the same combat like alot of other games. While TSW or Neverwinter deliever some new experience. While TSW does not have a new combat, more like another form of weapons mostly:P
He is not the only one. It appears that some are here just to rant on MMORPGs. Why do they spend so much time in talking about something they don't enjoy? I don't know.
All three are worth trying and all three fill very different play styles and tastes. But most people will only want to try one at a time so I would recommend Rift right now. You can play Rift Lite for now to decide if you want to purchase a box for the extras you can get before it goes free to play. There is also a lot of excitement and a lot of people returning because of the buzz. It is a top notch quality game with a huge list of features. The end game raiding is every bit as good as WoW raiding so if you enjoy that it is a very solid choice.
TSW is a must try. It is a buy to play so perhaps wait for someone to put the box on sale but well worth the cost for the story you get. Investigative missions are second to none and the way it does progression horizontally is really enjoyable if you are achievement oriented as you can learn all weapons and skills with time on just one character. But play this game sooner or later for its story. It is a real change of pace for an MMO. It also has a bit of action combat to it in that you can dodge and you do need to get out of the ground circles that mobs and bosses lay down. But it is tab targeted.
Neverwinter has solidly fun action combat. If you enjoyed the full on, no tab targeting action combat of Tera then this could be a good choices. They do seem to be having some troubles getting exploits under control but the game itself plays very well and is enjoyable.
All die, so die well.
Summed it up perfectly, although my own personal opinion places Neverwinter above TSW, but that's just me.
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
Cheers for all the great answers guys!
I just noticed that an old game that I played years ago (Aion) will get a HUGE update pretty soon.
Do you think it's worth trying? How is that game nowdays anyway?
That wouldn't be a question at all. Italian is the default.
OP, I would suggest Rift because it sounds like you are going to be grouping.
I don't know how well TSW is for grouping. Others might know and answer that.
Neverwinter. I'd pass on it.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Of the three the only one I've tried is Neverwinter. It was a pretty quick turn off for me with the shiney quest path leading you directly to the objective (at that point I feel they should add an auto pilot to just take you there or a teleport option), the extremely boring crafting where you just craft from anywhere in the world (which makes no sense in a medieval setting), or the teleport travel between instances... again not explained at all within the game. It's a bad version of Diablo 3.
Personally I'm going to fire up LOTRO, and wait for ESO.
If you guys are younger gamers who haven't experienced the old school MMOs you might want to try a player run Ultima Online server (if you like pvp and tons of pretty unique content). Or maybe try EvE online. Another great game (although the content is a little dry if you aren't in a fight).

It's a great game, but again has something that keeps it from being perfect: forced PvP. Of course, if you are into that, then it might be perfect for you. Although, if you do give it a try, I have a word of advice: make an Asmodian. They are way cooler than the Elyos.
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
Op I had the same problem this week. I quit neverwinter since I was bored of it after lvl 20. I enjoyed the secret world 3 day budy key, but Since I hear F2P rift and already owned the xpack and had lvl 50 toons I resubbed to rift again.
Could always be a boss and play scarlet blade like a real man :P
Screw leveling games, give me something with "End game" at the beginning of the game.
