The live stream is up!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthickey/2013/05/21/next-gen-xbox-reveal-event-live-blog/

Are you excited ? :)

UPDATE: I am not excited anymore, Xbox RIP. :'(

This new console seems a mobile facebook that plays high res games... baah.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- You can no longer play your Xbox 360 titles on this new Xbox One.

- You can no longer play your Xbox Live Arcade games on this new console.

- The console will not work without the Kinnect attached to it.

- The Xbox One will feature games in bluray discs (25gb to 50gb in size) and games MUST be installed on the tiny 500gb hard drive.

- If you want to play Pre-Owned games, even after buying those games, you MUST pay a fee to install them on your console, meaning not only you pay for the second hand game but must also pay another fee just to be able to use it.

- Xbox One will rely heavily on social networks, making it a portable Facebook.

- Redesigned controller will have better button response and cross section directional pad.

- Heavily focused on watching TV and Sports/Movies, making it less of a console and more of a TiVo/TV Box.

    Very underwhelmed so far.

Nothing in it that I must have.

I don't need my Xbox to watch TV, but the way they charge I'll need Xbox Gold to watch TV.

Forza 5 for the One (snort) is probably the most exciting prospect.

I think if they'd just have built a gaming rig and put Windows 8 on there, they'd be more impressive.  Did you SEE the size of that console?

    Brief rundown:

    Xbox One

Kinect - Built in, 1080P, can see small movements (like flicks of wrists).  Commands like Xbox TV, or Xbox movies, etc etc.

Forza 5 will launch with One

Lots of new sports stuff.  Bunch of sports players.  Supposedly focusing on AI.

COD: Ghosts.  Looks pretty.  I'm sure you guys'll love looking at the dog tattoo (while I'm sniping you in the head)

    Not impressed.

i am not impressed at all. too much focus on the non gaming features. ps3's reveal was a lot better imo showing the games instead of focusing on the `box`. And now they have the upper hand while showing their machine for the first time :P

I missed quite a bit from the stream because of buffering, disconnects etc.

Voice control and gesture recognition will be fun to play with. No real exclusives other than Halo and Forza which was to be expected. Forza 4 was soooo good that it was worth having an Xbox just for that game alone. I am glad that Kinect comes with every XBox now and it looks like it's integrated in the console's body rather than having a "separate" Kinect.

I think the only cool new thing about this next gen of consoles is that they offer more processing power so that games can move forward in terms of graphics.

Does the PS4 have proper Kinect like capabilities? If it doesn't, I will probably go for the Xbox.

Conventional gaming will be the same on both consoles so that doesn't really matter. Both will have the hardware for all upcoming games, will look almost identical and most games are developed for all console platforms so yeah. I think the thing they offer us in terms of better gaming is the beefed up hardware. Xbox's exclusives suck soooo not much to brag about there too. We know about Forza, Halo & GoW.

PS4 hasn't announced that AFAIK.  What PS4 has going for it is form factor, impressive graphics, and a metric BUTT TON of exclusive titles.

Edit:  Adding a run down of PS4 exclusives.

Well amazing graphics is not a "reason" to buy a console imo. I mean graphics are super important but these two consoles will have almost identical graphics... or do you think PS4 graphics will be more impressive?

I admit though that PS4 has a much better lineup of exclusives imo. Xbox was never good for its exclusives except for Forza. I guess that's why they didn't focus on exclusives - because they simply don't have anything to tell us but that I was expecting as much.

Lot of microsoft hate, zzz, whatever though. they announced 15 exclusives with 8 new IPS in the first year of xbox, which is pretty much a buy for me.

It's too soon to answer this question.  But at PS4's reveal they had that old man head and were playing with it.  The shading, the skin, everything looks really freakin' good.  The most impressive stuff I saw was the COD stuff on the One and I just didn't get a good enough vibe from it.

In shot comparisons between the 360 and the PS3, Backgrounds seemed sharper on the PS3 but some of the characters looked better on the 360.  I imagine it's something similar.

Here's the thing though, graphics DO matter at this point.  This console is supposed to last 5 years.  This current gen actually lasted a little too long.  That being said, I couldn't imagine some of these games graphics back when 360 first launched.  But I remember hooking up my Xbox and my 360 and booting up Halo for a comparison between the two.  My point is that if the graphics START really awesome, it'll only get better.  If they start like the Wii U, then there really is only a limited amount of advancement without significant hardware upgrade.

The fact that they are pushing kinect will push me to buy a ps4.
  • DenambrenDenambren Member UncommonPosts: 399

Did they not consider that some people were calling the first Xbox the XBOX 1,  up until now?

Type "Xbox 1" or "Xbox one" in google and do an image search.

Not sure how being mistaken with the first Xbox is going to be great marketing, but then I'm sure that whoever came up with the name Xbox "One" doesn't have any past experience with Consoles.

Wow those shares soared during MS's Launch! LoL, but seriously my 60" Samsung tv can do all of that already except play Next-gen games. I have no use for the kinect, i barely watch tv (except GoT, football, AMC shows), I'm not into skype (thats why i have this thing called a cell phone), & I refuse to pay a service fee monthly to access apps/services which I have to pay for to!

In the end all i care about is quality gameplay! They are doing like sony's ps3 by not focusing on the games and just bloat ware.

Below is where we can disscuss and come up with new ideas for Sandparks!

I play raquetball , tennis , basketball , occasional pickup football on weekends etc when I want to exercise and play a game.

When I play a video game the last thing I want to do is flap my arms around standing in the living room.

Never really understood how that's the big selling point of new console games.

I'm not trying to hate on the system, I'm talking specifically about what they've shown.  I never owned a PS2 and I didn't buy a PS3 until the Slimmer one came out.  I've owned both the Xbox and the 360 in MULTIPLE versions.  I also owned the Kinect and a LARGE library of it's games as well.  But I saw nothing today that was a necessary upgrade from a 360.  The specs are better, the graphics are better.  The console is BIGGER than the 360 (and almost as large as my desktop).  The Kinect looks ok but I'm still torn on it.  The better camera might be better but I had HUGE problems getting the Kinect to recognize my daughter.

They should have focused on the gaming.  They should not have focused on all the entertainment center ideas.  Everyone is doing that.   Nothing special there.  My WiiU does a lot of that stuff.

Kinect is not a selling feature for me.

What I would want is a fast, furious, console with good sound and picture, plus cheap downloadable games.

I'm still not sure that'd sell me because GF and I play cooperatively.  That would mean 2 consoles, 2 tvs, 2 subscriptions, etc.  I don't see it working out.

PC with the PS4 is the best choice for gaming.

    Very disappointed overall.

By the end I was talking to myself (though when I do that I tend to be wrong on varying degrees and speaking out of bias) and saying "...so where's the video game console?".  By that I probably meant that they seemed to be focusing on it being the ultimate media system that you could watch TV and surf the internet on, while focusing so little on what it is (or has been) to gamers: a video game system.

Sure, during the event I found myself saying "I'd like one of these", simply because I am lazy and would just want to say someone to turn the channel.  But there was a disturbing lack of focus on video games and instead just things such as sports counters, sports titles, skype, new improvements to the system, new TV series... I'm just very disappointed.

Also don't usually like it when a console tries to buy exclusives for a short time and screw players of other systems.  That may be common practice nowadays, but I had hopes we would move beyond that in this new generation (though I knew it wasn't likely).

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

If you were hoping to play your vast collection of Xbox 360 games on Microsoft's latest creation, we've got a spot of bad news. Microsoft Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten confirmed to The Verge that the new Xbox One console will have no backwards compatibility whatsoever.
