Okay, WoW is well and truly gone thanks to blizzard giving us pvpers the middle finger and i am now looking for a new game to have some pvp fun in. I am quite open minded about what to get but i am quite put off by eve online because ships just are not my thing and i heard it takes ages to gain skills and such.

I was thinking of DAoC but i heard the European servers are pretty low populated and we generally get treated like crap compared to the North American counterparts.  I have also tried the trial of shadowbane but point and click games just don't do it for me with pvp nor did i really enjoy the small time i spent on it. I have also played Lineage 2 but found that just a bit too grindey for my liking and call me a carebear but i don't like running the risk of losing my gear which i spent days working hard for (i have a really bad temper sometimes :P) The only other game i have played is GW which is a really good game but i never got to level 20 and far as i am aware, the most pvp you can have is 8 v 8 which just isn't enough imo.

Any other recommendations? I did also play CoH, EQ2 and SWG but CoH and EQ2 didn't really have any pvp or silly arenas. SWG was great but now, they are going to be full of jedi and that is now ruined in terms of freedom to create a good pvp template.

Ive heard good things of Dark Age of Camelot, with its Realm vs Realm combat.

Currently Im playing Silkroad, I find it's pvp pretty fun with flaws though of course.
At lvl 20, you can act of any of the 3 jobs. Merchants, Thiefs & Hunters.
Basically Merchants travel to a place to make money & profits.
Merchants hire Hunters. Thievess rob Merchants. Hunters kill Thieves.
    Hunters protect Merchants.
It gets pretty cool, and you dont want to be in the middle of a
raid as bystanders will get hurt too <.<

You might find that the game will have a tedious grind though at some times.

If good balanced pvp is what you are looking for... I strongly suggest you take a second look at GW. It may not have the depth of other mmorpg, but its one of the best "mmorpg style" PvP game out there.

If GW isnt for you and that you are more looking for a "real" rpg with good pvp, I would go with DaoC even though there isnt as much ppl playing it as b4... The new classic servers are fairly recent and have a good population.

Lineage2 has changed so much in C3, if you played it then??

first you will never drop your weapon (Unleass Red; pked a innceonet player) and theys only so low chance you drop a item inside inventory; even much much lower about equipped armors/items...

++ you get so many bonnuses now if you start a new lvl 1 toon; witch is the first on the spefic server http://www.lineage2.com/guide/bonuses.html

A side note; in C4 (witch comes soon) you wont drop items being red.. if you have under 5 PKs = (playerkills) and theys a quest to lower your PK count...

Like you, I have tried most of the games out there. The newest batch has really put some serious limitations on PvP with restricted "team" sizes and artifical instanced zones that have no impact on the persistant world. Unfortunately the is no "hidden treasure" of a PvP game out there. Looks like you hit most of the good ones already.

Dark age of Camelot is a pretty good game. The PvP was a great time when I played. The game has had many changes since then. Also I hear the populations are not all that great any more. The PvP is dynamic in the sence that you have a impact on the persistant world unlike all the instanced PvP out there right now. You seige castles and towers and your guild get the credit for taking them, holding them and in the meantime getting to hang your guilds emblem on it, a very detailed off-line stat system, and the taking of relics which provide bonuses to the entire population of your realm. The primary con for me was its slow pacing (characters looked like they moved in slow motion, long travel times, bland content and the repetiveness of the PvP, we zerg, they zerg) But that was over a year ago.

I don't know how long you played L2 but IMHO its next in line for good PvP. You don't really run a high of a risk of dropping anything especially if you are attacked and do NOT fight back. By not fighting back you will more then likely cause the other player to go RED and make himself open season for anyone to kill, in addition the REDs chance of dropping an item are greatly increased. PKers are very good hunting image The Euro server is always full and service isn't a problem. But there is a lot to L2 that you won't get an opinion about on these forums. All you will get is a bunch of comments about bots and farmers.

I see a few recommend L2 but you see the problem here, you all say you won't lose equipment if you don't attack anyone. The whole point of pvp is to attack people and i really wouldn't want to run the risk of losing anything. I have quite the short fuse and if i lost something from attacking someone, i would probably get quite peeved off :P.

I also see some recommending DAoC, how is the Euro servers these days in contrast to the American ones? I have heard a LOT of bad things about them and apprently, the forums got so bad due to angry customers, that they closed them down. Also does anyone know if it's possible for me to subscribe to the US version? I can get a copy of it from Canada easy enough but i don't know if they would decline my credit card due to me living in England.  The realm vs realm combat sounds very fun and i would imagine it's open ended pvp a bit like the old days in Hillsbrad on WoW but better.

If you want real PvP the last place you would go would be the instanced world of GW. Guys, Roma Victor launches in March next year with twitch-based combat & full loot - it's a PvP'ers dream, I can't wait for it.

Playing EVE at the moment the PvP is ok but I want that real FP fighting experience with swords & shields & true skillz. Bring on Roma Victor!

GW just doesn't cut it though, it's player vs player yes but not in a mmo sense. It has a great competitive feel to it and has a great teamwork feel but i am really looking for one which has larger scale pvp in a proper world, GW is nothing more than an offline game with chat rooms and multiplayer.

you asked ofr great pvp and guild wars has one of the best pvpv systems it has been prised many times for its pvp stystem and many enjoy it as hardcore pvp i play WoW and hate it as alot of ppl have the common misconseption that you need to pay a fee for a game to be "hardcore"

  • SendenSenden Member UncommonPosts: 602

You don't need to pay a subscription to have a good pvp game but far as i am aware,  gw doesn't have pvp with more than 8v8, for me a pvp game has to be open ended which WoW had but now it's all bg bg bg.

In it's own way, GW is great but it's just not for me.

GWs PvP is more along the lines of an FPS game than an MMO, it's done with matches in an arena, not open ended.

Well you can attack anyone at anytime in L2 you just need to manage your Karma. You will build up karma and at some point you will go RED. When you do go RED everyone and their brother will be chasing you down. If you don't like the risk factor then yes, stay away from L2.

DAoC sounds like your best choice. I've played many games on U.S. Servers with people from Europe. Don't quote me on this but Visa/master cards are excepted everywhere. You shouldn't have a problem with those 2 cards.

  • SendenSenden Member UncommonPosts: 602

Yeah i have a mastercard so i should be okay but i know shadowlands checks your billing address or so it says.

  • psydexpsydex Member Posts: 187
I would suggest Ultima Online, but, you don't like point and click. So the next best bet would be DAoC. The server populations are not low since they re-introduced the classic servers. Start on the classic servers, they're up there around 1300-1700+ people, including the european one. If not, sit back and wait like the rest of us for the next PvP game :) Hope this helps.

    Dark Age of Camelot

It may be 4 years old... but it's still the best there is. Sad isn't it? In 4 years nobody has topped it for PVP.

If you're into space MMO's you could try EVE but a lot of folks find it boring.

To me theres only 2 mmorpgs with good PVP.

    EVE - Amazing unforgiving PVP

WOW - fun fast and greatly balanced and highly polished PVP.

It's a shame more mmorpgs don't make it fun :(

DAOC,UO and SWG were all ruined which used to have good PVP

All the good pvpers, like -Z-, OiN, -X-, -S-, are spread out between the hundreds of MMO's out there, because they all suck.

If you want some twitch-based FPS PvP instead of the Click-N-Wait, Spell-Lock, Random Dice Rolling PvP, check out Neocron 2.1 which is being released 12/01. If you previously had a Neocron2 account, it'll be FREE for you to play from December 1st to 14th...

How was DAOC ruined? I played in beta, at release, and now. PVP is just as good now as it was at release.

    NOTE: On the Classic servers.

On the normal servers, I agree.... TOA ruined PVP there.

Might want to give COH another try.. They recently released a PVP Expansion/Full game called City of Villians.. Unlike WOW they will have base raids and they also have PVP zones..

Don't know if someone said this but in Lineage 2, now if a red pks you, you cannot drop equipment(still will lose exp) but if you are purple and another person is purple(both people are flagged), then there is a chance of dropping. Also, if you are red and someone kills you, you have a BIG chance of dropping(but only after you hit the 5 pk mark).

Here you claim you are upset at PvP games giving you the "middle finger" meaning you feel the current PvP games are toooo softy soft.

I have also played Lineage 2 but found that just a bit too grindey for my liking and call me a carebear but i don't like running the risk of losing my gear which i spent days working hard for (i have a really bad temper sometimes :P)

Here you claim you are a sappy sap because you are terrorfied of the most ultra-hardcore PvP there is - full death, full loot. Sorry but you cannot whine about soft PvP then say you don't want to play hardcore PvP. image

A TRUE PvP lover lives for the thril of winning and... the thrill of losing!!!! "I lost, but it was a NICE battle I had with that guy/girl!".

Since you are aware of your temper, you are already halfway there to becoming a true GREAT PvPer! Enjoy it all. Winning and losing! Did you know some players in Diablo II in hardcore mode, will on purpose get theirselves killed after they reach level 99? Because they know it is just a game, and they are having fun - no matter if they win, or lose, they are still having fun, enjoying theirselves! image

The only other game i have played is GW which is a really good game but i never got to level 20 and far as i am aware, the most pvp you can have is 8 v 8 which just isn't enough imo.

What is wrong with PvP with 8 vs. 8? There is still thrills! How many players would you personally need in your mind?

Any other recommendations? I did also play CoH, EQ2 and SWG but CoH and EQ2 didn't really have any pvp or silly arenas. SWG was great but now, they are going to be full of jedi and that is now ruined in terms of freedom to create a good pvp template.

I agree the current SWG lacks what it had during its first 4 months of release.

Another question for you, did you check out Anarchy Online? It currently has some of the best PvP out of all mmorpgs. You can take other players/guilds land. You can even defend your guilds land while you are offline.
