This could very well be the future of gaming if this hardware starts to sell well.
They're also shooting for a kickstarter on June 4th of this year.
Thats a great video. I love the fact that it gets us off the chair. Ill be curious if it somehow will benefit people that are in the prime of their life versus those that just don't run as fast or have a handicap. I'm assuming that the speed you walk translates into running in the game and peaks at some point, but who knows. Can't wait for me to accidentally fall from that ring over the side and land on my dog lol.
For some reason even though Im a big RPG gamer, I've never been a fan of the Dragon Age series. I guess I felt they are way too linear and I didn't enjoy the party management. Maybe Dragon Age 3 will change my mind.
I'm in agreement about the Occulus Rift. Its the only thing in video games that even remotely interests me anymore. The PS4 and especially the X1 are extremely disappointing and look boring as hell (even mobile gaming is more exciting but not by much), and there hasn't been an MMO I've wanted to play in years. The Rift is it for me, if that fails to impress then I'm out for good.
With that said, an ever quest three or archeage with Rift support could potentially be a fantastic experience.

Agree with you, though there are several PC games I love, like Skyrim and Im about to try Witcher 2...and I cant wait to see what Watch Dogs is about, graphics look amazing. I hope they add MMO support, though Im not sure one would be at a disadvantage compared to those that aren't using it. That would be my only concern. Id rather an MMO type of game specifically be made for Occulus Rift so everyone is on the same playing field :-).
I don't care if i look stupid wearing it but virtual reality to me still seems like the next major step forward in gaming. There is just so much potential for a whole new level of immersion if this is done right. I think its something that could offer us an exciting new era of innovation similar or perhaps beyond of the era that saw the first 3d polygon games.

I totally agree with you. I'll continue to be optimistic that the final head piece will be a lot more normal looking than the current developer version lol.
None of those are too exciting to me. Occulus sure but...The fact that we cant have it completely replace a monitor with it put me off. I mean occulus is potentially really good but unless theres something I want it for the moment it releases, I probably wont be getting it. If it can replace a monitor even without 3D, its an instant buy for me and the 3D games I can play with it will just be an extremely sweet bonus.
I was hoping I can wear it to replaced having a monitor but apparently not at the moment. As for PS4 and Xbox one...Im more excited for Pikmin 3, Smash Brothers, and W101 for WiiU. Oh and Final Fantasy x and X-2, new YS, and PSO2 for vita...Oh and Pokemon X/Y, Rune Factory 4, and Animal Crossing for 3DS....

The Oculus Rift has the potential to cause a paradigm shift in gaming. It's the first time that a decent VR-like experience will be possible to achieve practically and affordably (?).
The cost of the unit is crucial though. If it's too expensive, it will remain a niche product, and that will mean it will largely be ignored by game developers. But if it's within reach of the average gamer, game developers will go all-out to tap it's potential. And that will lead to further development of new controllers better suited to use in 3D, and so on...
It could be the tiny snowball that caused the mega-avalanche, or it could just melt away quietly.

hmmmm, are we sure it will need a monitor at release? It seems weird to me that it would since one of the links is people on a treadmill like system where I don't see what a monitor would be doing. I guess maybe it needs to convert the monitor signal into something? I guess I don't understand the technology behind it yet, so I guess we will see.

Totally agree with everything you wrote. We can only be optimistic at this point. I agree that cost is crucial.
New gaming PC. I just don't want to have anything to do with virtual reality. Games will stay games for me (and reality as my only reality).
I fear for the next generation that many will use the virtual reality displays far too much; Using it to play games, watch adult material, forgetting reality, even if for a short time during their gameplay, using it to "socialize" and experience new things they normally "wouldn't be able to" and damage their eyesight after use.
Many will start "seeing the world through glass" , as Google Glasses advert says - as if we didn't enough already.

Leaving my house and breathing Los Angeles air damages me more than these headsets will lol.
Does anyone know if this essentially replaces your monitor? Like, if I was playing Skyrim and alt+tabbed, would I see my desktop and internet browser through the oculus rift?

This was on their website:
What type of input will I use to connect the Oculus Rift developer kit to my computer?
The Oculus Rift’s video input is DVI, though that can be converted to HDMI with an adapter. Converting the signal does not impact the performance of the Oculus Rift.
What are the minimum system requirements for the Oculus Rift developer kit?
The computer must have an HDMI or DVI video-out port. Note that VGA is unsupported at this time. Other than that, there are no minimum specifications, though the more powerful the computer, the better the experience will be. Any standard gaming computer should be sufficient to use the Oculus Rift.
So I'm assuming it takes the place of a monitor and that a monitor isn't needed, but just my assumption. Nowhere above does it say a Gaming PC with a monitor.

Read something that Dragon Age 3 might use Occulus Rift.

ummmm because they haven't made that yet for us to look at some I had no link to reference lol

Watching a dude playing skyrim with the oculus rift made me want it soooo bad....
Also horror games with the oculus rift hehehehehehe that would be the best immersion ever!

You know I'm not usually into horror games, but to be honest, I would try it with something like this because that could be some scary shit lol.
