With the release of a gambit of new F2P MMOS currently out or coming soon, is this the way of the future for the Genre that we love?
Many of the past P2P games switching business models after years on the market, is this a last ditch effort to save the game, or do they honestly think they can make more money with the F2P model? I personally have tried several of the current F2P MMOs with the cash shops and for the life of me, I just cant get into them. Example: Neverwinter, the prices are stupid. $30 for a mount.. Seriously? Ill gladly ride my slow non spectacular mount around town and save my $30.
There was a survey floating around recently, from a Archeage fansite. One of the questions asked how much would you pay in a monthly subscription. Since I dont think that many people did the survey, lets do our own.

If you would pay more, post the Up To amount as well.
Id go up to $25 or $30 for a game that would keep me entertained.

I voted $15 to $20. Subscribing to a solid game to my liking would be a no-brainer. I just haven't found one that I like.

BTW: Nice ride in the sig. Here's a pic of one of my toys. I'm too old for fast and furious, so I went for something a bit out of the ordinary as a hobby car.
Would definitly like to go back to P2P games, paying the box cost, which includes a month gives you well worth your money in entertainment time and lets you find out if you want to stick around or not, and then 15-20 dollars a month after that is nothing to stay entertained and have fun.
My problem with most games these days is that I'm usualy done with most of the content within the month included with the box price, and thus have no reason to continue my sub. Yes I am a content locus, but purely because games these days don't add sandbox features that are ment to keep you busy for long periods of time, such as house building, farming( the plant or animal kind ), in-depth crafting, or heck even a difficult skill/leveling system. Games are focused around the people who spend 1-2 hours a day or every other day on a game and want to see character progression in that small amount of time, not people like me who will spend 4-8 hours a day on a game after all my responsiblitys have been taken care of and have no problem working hard in a game for weeks or months to see progression.
But if a MMO comes out that is ment to be for the long haul and is done well, I will more then happily throw money at it monthly with no complaints.

I wouldn't think twice about subscribing to a game I enjoy.
I really hate F2P "revenue models", but I suspect game publishers have realised that F2P is the road to riches. Microtransactions represent limitless opportunities to monetize game play. Virtually everything and anything can be sold if you design the systems carefully enough.
Disguising and hiding the costs becomes a fine art in these F2P games. Nobody will ever convince me that the game play won't suffer as a result.
The key here is it needs to be a great game. It would have to have features that games have been lacking since vanilla WoW.
What does this thread show ? People saying they'd pay for a solid mmo doesn't mean ppl want p2p games. Ask them what a solid mmo even means and no one will agree. Asking people if they'd pay for a good mmo is like asking them if they enjoy breathing.
I'm subbed to two f2p mmos right now. I could answer I'd pay $30 a month. Would I pay a sub to a game I had to buy for $60 and pay a sub or be locked out, ever again...I doubt it. Most of the time when I go back to an old mmo I play free for a few days, realize I'm hooked again and sub. I don't go back to sub games though, just something about organizing the payment before I know if I even want to play again makes me not bother.
I would, and I want to.
f2p is fine for regular games, not mmos imo. I do not like the horrible cash shops that often come with a f2p mmo. I also am not sold on a f2p mmo getting quality updates and expansions. B2p, jury is still out imo.
I do not want to pay for a shallow lobby mmo though, I wouldn't play most of the offerings that are out now for free, without a cash shop.

I actually prefer the buy the game and monthly sub business model over the f2p, but as everyone has said I will only stay if the game hooks me.
Truthfully I don't really have pre-requisits that have to be in the game just looking for something that is fun and entertaining.
I would be willing to pay up to $20 - $30 a month for a really good game that hit all of my criteria. Lesser games that were o.k. I would pay less depending on how close they come to what I want.
As of right now I am not playing any games because there is nothing out there I want to play - which is pretty sad as I usually will put in 20 to 30 hours a week in a game if its at all decent.
On a side note - I have tried many F2P games and every single one of them sucked once you got passed the newbie area. Most F2P games are designed to be annoying unless you spend money in the cash shop and the amount of money needed to make the game not annoying almost always exceeds a typical p2p sub cost and then the f2p only becomes as annoying as a normal p2p game.
B2P only for a solid - great game that does everything p2p games offer.
I'd pay a good 2-5 hours of time out my life to a solid and great game.
No more f2p and never will throw 15 out my pocket for a solid and/or great game, sorry I'm gonna miss out on...well nothing time will be spent per month on other solid to great games that don't and know they don't need 15 dollars out my pocket to later then provide more content.
Looking at the poll it's as expected, this site is pro p2p so far.
I might do 15 dollars per year though for an outstanding MMO.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
And what game is worth that?....WoW is about the best you can get for fantasy and its not even worth 15....Eve is abotu the best for sci fi and its not worth 15 either so what fictional game did you have in mind?
I guess you'll have to follow this up with a thread where people describe in detail what their solid game would be (without debating, everyone just posts their own preferences).
When it comes to getting stuff for myself, I'm cheap. That said I would certainly pay up to $15 a month for a solid MMO with regular content updates/events.
Also >10 means greater than 10.
<10 means less than 10.

I wouldn't pay a sub for a "solid" game... There's enough "solid" games out there on the market and they're either B2P or F2P.
If a game would be more than solid with enough content to keep me entertained in the long run, with constant updates, good combat system and it's highly polished...oh, and it has to be innovative... then I'd pay a standard sub price for it

If WoW was released today even in its' entirety it would be f2p in 3 months.
Why is it still such a big deal?
It seems those who don't like seeing poll numbers go against what they like scream flawed poll every time.
It could be that there are plenty of folks who are tired of the rushed , nickel and dime , F2P stuff , and would like a modern UO/EQ/DAOC alternative , and would gladly pay a sub for such a game.
I certainly would.
In sheer value EQ > all other activities as far as bang for the buck for the years I sub'd to it.
Considering a 200 dollars is a dinner and movie for the wife and me and our two kids , 15 or 20 a month for something enjoyable is well beyond reasonable for me.
I voted yes but I noticed you haven't told us your answer, let me guess, it's a no, right?
