I just want to say this, even though many of these post say basically the same thing i'm gonna say.
I have played SWG since game launch and played some of the beta. SWG was nice before the CU and NGE will never IMO get as many players as SWG had before CU came out and it will never get as many players that were active in the CU. Face it SOE you messed up a good game. NGE wouldn't be bad if you didn't make it FPS like that was just stupid and very gay. IF you ask me it looks like you're devs are kids are you higher 10yr olds? oh yeah and this we had alot of ppl backing us up. If mmorpg .com staf got access to the SWG forums and got to see all the post of players on this theye'd see it was like 1 out every 20post if not every 30 or 50 that somone was going for it. You guys need to learn how to read. I'm a veteran of SWG and you know what I definately was betrayed. not only did you take a way a nice game but you took away the nice friends i had made. I know over 300ppl on the server my toons are on that are leaving and i'm hearing that from alot of ppl. before the next few months are up you'll only have maybe 1000 ppl playing this stupid game. I've been trying to like it but you know having to click my mouse on a target and keep clicking and hit right mouse to attack can't use my combat bar that's just plain stupid and I don't know where you guys get fun at in this there's no fun. yeah wahoo i get to go to lvl 90 now yeah that sounded cool but you know i don't like having to be forced to do quest if i dont' wanna and this gotta have 1mil xp to lvl to next lvl and only get 100xp a kill is just dumb like SOE just flat out dumb. YOu say you want to make the game funner for your customers but you only put us in pain. Skill revamp never bothered me but changing the way you use your skills is dumb. You're losing your customers day by day cause you don't know when to stop changing you promised us things that made us stay to see how they were and OMG!!! you just broke that promise. Where is this new ranger stuff you promised? what about the SL revamp you just gave us?!!!! Trials of Obi-Wan was so much better before the NGE!!!! all that time and effort to get all that cool stuff we can use and now they ain't worth a crap.. all that time and effort to make my jedi nice and now he's the weakest combat prof in the game!!!! If you go by the true ways of Star Wars jedi were alot stronger then what you guys put them in the game.. anyways next time you guys have a interview make sure you guys tell the dang truth this we were doing this to make the game more Star Wars like is BS it's close but not close it feels nothing like Star Wars.

One of the focus group people posted on the forums (and was quickly deleted) that they were told it would be for a new game and not a revamp of the current one. Just thought I'd mention that.
I bought the game awhile back before the expansions and used it for the free trial (ultimately my wife and I went with WOW) and have a coworker who was heavily into the game. I've heard him talk about the changes. He has since quit the game. Bare in mind that he had worked to get a jedi back when you had to "work" to get your jedi. He also had 2 other accounts he played, including a very popular chef character. What they've done to the game is WRONG! It no longer fits withing the spirit or the continuiety of the star wars universe. Now people can just start playing jedi without earning it?! I know the idea of playing one is cool, and certainly what people might think they want, but when you have so many people running around as jedi you've ruined the feel of the game. Unless they change the timeling to when there are supposed to be more jedi running around (ie after ep 1 or after ep 6 in the expanded universe). If I recall correctely there weren't many jedi running around durring The Empire Strikes Back. (and don't even get me started on how they've nerfed the non-combat professions!)

Up coming ones were for rangers and smugglers. Now CH's and Rangers no longer exist. Still no content has been added to the core game after cl 30 ( I for one have 3 toons on 2 accounts, a jedi that I ground through, the alt which was designed as an anti jedi pvp template and my main which had been a ch longer than most of the dev team have had their jobs) and rather than a thriving living star wars world there is nothing happening of note anylonger. There were people grinding to cl90 (as if knocking everyone off thier perch of complete templates is content or something) doing lava flea missions on mustafarr until yesterday when they nerfed the quest into uselessness. But other than that its stil lthe same 20 or 30 people pvping in theed, all the crafters and hybrid entertainers have left the game. Most of the people that were shouting about too many jedi in game are all now jedi. The roleplayers are all gone and the server is a ghost town. Grats to the dev team, no one left to clamour for content because they all have left the game. Or rather the game was stolen from us. Its like being a subscriber to playboy. Then one day you open up the magazine and instead of beautiful women and insightful articles its nothing but man on man sex pictorials.

Hi. I'm Eric. I have only played on MMORPG. Star Wars Galaxies. The NGE blows, everybody knows it, and the game is doomed. The is was a last-gasp. SOE will take the money it should be spending on developement and by advertisements on cartoon Network, limp through Christmas, and the game will die quietly in September with the launch of SWG II. And it won't be a Sony product, it will be Microsoft's first foray into the MMORPG world.

I disagree with your score on the graphics subject. Graphics are nice, but it's a three years old engine and you can never set the detail to the maximum. And it also produces a lot of lag. Also, compared to other MMORPGs out there, it's going bye-bye in six months maximum.
the real problem is that their is no competion from another company. so most people saying if you don't like it leave is bogus. i want to play an star wars RPG the only other option is the KOTOR series and well there are 2 flaws in useing that apporach 1) you can only play those 2 games so many times before they get old & 2) there is no point in playing them on anything but easy since medium & hard just make all of the DC rolls impossible (i've tried i couldn't get out of a damn building cause i kept failing the security DC on the front door and their is limited ability to level there.
i love SWG and the new system is great for melee, i just wish i had earned my Jedi (i was halfway through the aurilia quest and got nothing for that effort) instead of it being handed to me and i now agree with others saying there are too damn many jedi (i refuse to wear my robes since everyone else has the same robes and since they are useless) and they shouldn't have released it until they had atleast enough content for the CL80 veterans to get to CL 90 in something less than 5 years of hard grinding.
so after reading the review part of "fun" how did it managed to get a score of 7 ??
This game at its current stage deserves a 3 at the most , its unplayable (keep in mind this is a subscription game also!)
and customer service sucks , not because NGE , they had suck since day 1 , always a scripted response and always make you log out and resolve your issue outside of game on a tech chat room that you must reach by pure luck,since obviously your in game support tells you to call an 800 number that never gets picked up!
My advice stay away from this game and play JK2 or some other MMORPG
Very good articles! I completely agree that only time will tell if SOE and LA have made a decision that will garner greater success, continued mediocrity, or complete failure.
However, as veteran player of SWG, it is painfully obvious to me that SOE and LA is not intrested in what I enjoy nor what they can do to keep my business. I can only surmize that they are taking my love of Star Wars for granted and assume I and many others will continue to endure whatever they dish out. In this case I'm afraid they have over-estimated my tolerance for the sake of the title.
In regards to continued empty promises, and delusions of grandure...well I think this quote fits pretty accurately "Decieve me once, then shame on you!(CU) Decieve me twice, then shame on me!(NGE)". This is not the first time SOE has done this to a community, and as long as people continue to tolerate such practices they will continue to do them. You maybe enjoying the changes this time, but rest assured sooner or later they will gut what you like about it and replace it for the sake of new customers, it's not a matter of IF, it's a matter of WHEN!
Here's a question for anyone at LA or SOE: Fine, you change the game completely, so why won't you give me my prepaid subscription back?

Let me be clear - I said "legally" they're not obligated to give refunds. However, they did offer SOME refunds. I didn't say they were obligated to. As to whether they should or not - that is a whole other can of worms.

I'm glad an honest review came out on this finally.....not the SOE it's wonderful, veteran players loved it or my favorite test groups showed this to be more popular than the old version. Some other websites said similar things making me wonder if money is being passed under the table.
I liked the mustafar expansion and prepaid on my accounts. When they changed it to the NGE my wife and I tried it out and found no fun with our old characters but had some fun running the new missions. Still hate the NGE combat system and promptly applied for mustafar refund and tried to get my accounts prepaid cash back. Mustafar I'm getting my money back, but they told me to take it in the pooper on my prepaid's.
My wife and I feel lied to and totally distrust SOE/LA and plan to never play another SOE game ever again. If they do it to one game of their's .....why not another.

I almost feel bad for you, having followed these posts for a while and seeing you post that at least four times. I think most of us fully understand that the relationship between the companies. It does become very confusing though, as LA seldom comments on the game, at least in comparison to the posts SOE makes regarding the game. BTW, love the sight, it's become a daily stop for me for MMORPG news.

This game totally sucks now. Do not buy it. I played for over 2 years and bought every crappy expansion, which I hardly used and spent over 800 bux on two accounts over rthe years. This is a total slap in the face in many many ways. Many playes such as some crafters, Jedi, Creature handlers, etc. have either been removed from the game or rendered useless. SOE/LA is pathetic, no other explanation. LA is so arrogant to think that they can make this survive. Just look at the reviews on Amazon and EB games before you play. These idiots will be shutting down SWG inside of 6 months. I just wish I had all of my time and money back, but then again I am thankful for the experience I had and the friends I met along the way. NGE will never work. It's an FPS that you have to pay 15 bux a month for. Who's gonna do that. Just buy KOTOR, the same game pretty much. It's just like every other LA peice of crap that we all buy just because it's "Star Warsy."

That statement shows that Casey has zero, zip, no idea why the customer base left -- or at least that they still refuse to state the facts publicly.
There customers were lied to, mislead, and cheated out of years of promises, assurances, and direct statements to the contrary of their real efforts.
Dishonest businesses do not retain customer loyality nor will such practices EVER bring back customers burned bad enough or one time too many. Even if the NGE (or the version that actually runs one day) were the greatest SWG experience available in the world most of us that left this time will not be back. Nor will I be back to any SOE gaming experience as this is one game too many for me personally. I now consider their products like I consider outsourced labor and manufacturing -- anthema. I'll pay more for something by someone who deals with me honestly.
SOE sells the game -- period. If SOE is willing to sell in the manner they are, then it is SOE at fault -- no one else. They could choose to provide honest communication, they could choose to not do business with LA, I really don't care which anymore, but it remains their fault do not pass the buck off on anyone else (even if they deserve part of the blame). Everyone ever in a partnership or on a team knows that each of them must accept personal responsibility for whatever the team does or does not do.
I never got to try the old verson and that pisses me off! the idea of makin' some servers from the old verson in repect of those who lost a great game is a great idea! but sadly, SoE dosent want it like that

SOE betrayed their customers, it's not fair to any of their gamers to keep somethign like this secret till like 15days till they launch it. And it is definetly not fair for those that pre-paid under the old system not knowing about this.
IMO: I think they should give atleast partial refund but I think they should give full refund because they are the ones that messed up and ruined the life of their customers and were not upfront about what they wre going to do. They lied to us and that's what we deserve...
And for you thinking that pre-payers under the old system shouldn't get refund that's just makes you just as LOW as SOE even lower in my book and I think you need to live more and learn what truth is buddy.
Really, it's more akin to you watching a movie and not liking a plot twist half way through.
There's not much that can be done and as far as I know, legally they have no obligation to offer refunds (although they did to those who bought Obi-Wan under the old system).

Let me be clear - I said "legally" they're not obligated to give refunds. However, they did offer SOME refunds. I didn't say they were obligated to. As to whether they should or not - that is a whole other can of worms.

I'm glad an honest review came out on this finally.....not the SOE it's wonderful, veteran players loved it or my favorite test groups showed this to be more popular than the old version. Some other websites said similar things making me wonder if money is being passed under the table.
I liked the mustafar expansion and prepaid on my accounts. When they changed it to the NGE my wife and I tried it out and found no fun with our old characters but had some fun running the new missions. Still hate the NGE combat system and promptly applied for mustafar refund and tried to get my accounts prepaid cash back. Mustafar I'm getting my money back, but they told me to take it in the pooper on my prepaid's.
My wife and I feel lied to and totally distrust SOE/LA and plan to never play another SOE game ever again. If they do it to one game of their's .....why not another.
Again, I feel obligated to point out that LA, not SOE, develops and decides the direction of SWG.

I almost feel bad for you, having followed these posts for a while and seeing you post that at least four times. I think most of us fully understand that the relationship between the companies. It does become very confusing though, as LA seldom comments on the game, at least in comparison to the posts SOE makes regarding the game. BTW, love the sight, it's become a daily stop for me for MMORPG news.
And good news! The best SWG guild in existence, my alma mater, is moving to DDO online when it opens

from what i just read they nerfed the game even more i will never go back i closed 3 accounst becuz of their so called combat upgrade that was in reality a downgrade now they are trying to fix what they ruined and ruining it even more

That statement shows that Casey has zero, zip, no idea why the customer base left -- or at least that they still refuse to state the facts publicly.
There customers were lied to, mislead, and cheated out of years of promises, assurances, and direct statements to the contrary of their real efforts.
Dishonest businesses do not retain customer loyality nor will such practices EVER bring back customers burned bad enough or one time too many. Even if the NGE (or the version that actually runs one day) were the greatest SWG experience available in the world most of us that left this time will not be back. Nor will I be back to any SOE gaming experience as this is one game too many for me personally. I now consider their products like I consider outsourced labor and manufacturing -- anthema. I'll pay more for something by someone who deals with me honestly.
Quit giving their lame company air time.

SOE sells the game -- period. If SOE is willing to sell in the manner they are, then it is SOE at fault -- no one else. They could choose to provide honest communication, they could choose to not do business with LA, I really don't care which anymore, but it remains their fault do not pass the buck off on anyone else (even if they deserve part of the blame). Everyone ever in a partnership or on a team knows that each of them must accept personal responsibility for whatever the team does or does not do.
I never got to try the old verson and that pisses me off! the idea of makin' some servers from the old verson in repect of those who lost a great game is a great idea! but sadly, SoE dosent want it like that
