)v(ajinBoob3 - If you take the effort to look up the info without your blinders on you'll see that from a legal point of view they did nothing wrong. If I was their lawyer I'd suggest they sue his ass, maybe I should give them a ring I do so love easy money::::31::

Anyway I've had it with this forum Im out of here.

)v(ajinBoob3 put a little more effort at devising misinformation and maybe you could get a job with the Bush administration.

I posted nothing that was not based on information, and I did not try to force my opinion on anyone else.  I merely stated the opinion that I had, and then I get insults shot at me.  Honestly I did not even give my opinion of the game, just the situation it is in.  Some of the people posting need to cool down and stop taking everything other people say personally.

there is alot of trolls in here on both sides of the argument, no thread is safe from the trolls they have taken over this forum.

NP3 has brought it all upon themselves angerr. When have you ever seen a game shrouded in so much secrecy? Other companies love to show off their products. If NP3 wanted to get rid of the trolls all they had to do is shed some light on the subject, trolls do not like light you know. It would be hard to post anything like "this game sucks swampwater " if PCGamer had just given it a 9 preview rating, or Gamespy had just posted how much they loved it. Instead they keep it hidden away like a ugly cousin, and make their AD toadies and drooling fanboys atttempt to defend it against troll attacks.

A guy makes a mapping program.  This mapping program is special because most mapping programs make everything look good from far away, but, the closer you get the images become grainy and out of proportion.  He created a way to effectively 'zoom' in on huge parcels of land without loosing image detail.  He effectively proved this by mapping the entire Italian peninsula.  Why is this so special?  Basically, it does for computer mapping what mp3 does for music files.  Compressed with minimal loss of data or accessibility.
So, fast forward.  NP3/Farlan approaches this dood about consulting on DnL.  He basically adapts the program to their software allowing DnL to cover those 10,000km or w/e without much issue.  This, of course is of great value to NP3 because one of the biggest complaints in MMOs today is "the explorable area is too small."
The guy realizes that most of the catch to DnL is the large amount of explorable land.  He also understands that he wrote the program that allows DnL to have this unique feature.  Naturally he wants to be paid for his services.
DnL won't pay him what he wants because they claim the program is theirs, the guy is upset because he claims the program is his...  It comes down to judge's arbitration.  The judge rules that the game is Farlan/NP3's and the program is within the game, so, the guy is pretty much out of luck.
Who's wrong or right is not up to us.
The fact that you have a major contributor so upset with the developing company that he's willing to leave and sue speaks volumes.  It says that he was willing to pass up all his time/effort because he felt he was screwed over.

And those the major contributor has a right to sell his programs to competitors or did he sign some stuff to DnL?  He can easily get money either way, by selling or getting an exclusive contract, if the program is considered to be his despite allowing the company to use it at is own leisure inside the game (did he sign NDA or propertie close?  If not he has the right to sell this program I guess, to competitors).

Anyway, I am no lawyer and honestly, I don't see why someone care about money that much...but well...some folks care about silly stuff.  Personnally I would be honored and happy if the company I work for would be able to revolutionize the market and become huge, this would be reward enough for me. But guess some folks think other ways, *bump*, to bad for them, they are missing the fun parts of life!  image

DAoC, Guildwars (i dont care if you dont consider it an MMO, its on this site) and I think EVE had a good start.

Also, was anyone else in the Wish beta that liked it? At first I didnt think it was all that great but the more I played it the more I liked it. Especially the live events, those were the most fun ive had in an MMO for about three years.

I agree... DAoC was a nice game made by a nice company. ::::19::

Hey, Chukinstuff! I used to live in Portsmouth, too! Now I'm living in the Land of Tony Soprano... I miss Portsmouth. :::^(:: We'll be moving back in two years, thank God.

I was in the Wish Beta and liked most of it.
wish.stratics.com was my baby, until Wish was cancelled.

I was in the Wish beta VERY early on. I remember not being able to do much but I could pick berries and I had a pet goat. Then I figured out that I could train my pet goat to kill other goats. Although a bit sick... things improved after that. Goats are killing machines! ::::19::

I was sad to see Dragon Empires go, too. (Mourning... not so much) It's never a good thing when one of the smaller, independent development companies aren't able to make it. They're usually the ones that try the hardest and pay attention to their community better than the SOEs and Blizzards. While I really hope DnL is able to pull off everything they've promised, I can absolutely understand why people view it with skepticism. At the end of the day, if DnL delivers, the skeptics will be just as happy to have a decent game to play as the fans. No one WANTS the game to crash and burn... some just expect it to.

"Please just answer me this one question: If the game sucks as much as you say it does,  why are they allowing people to try it for free??"

I have a better question. If the game is so hot than why don't they take pre orders AFTER they allow people to play it for free rather than letting them order it on blind faith alone and than charging them as soon as they log into it.

omg i have an even better question. Why put a limit on the preorder if the game sucks? Wouldn't it be better to not have a limit at all so they could get as much cash as possible before people would realise the game is crap?

Obviously they believe the game is good thus they put a limit on the preorders, wich by the way is a preorder for BOTH DnL and SoG. It wouldn't be a preorder for DnL+SoG if they made it available after the SoG release now would it?

beacuse they already got 8.8k people who preordered it just on blind faith. and so far no complaints from them... the only people who have had a problem with this are those, that didnt preorder, which i guess is a minority compared to the 8.8k that did order... except u dont see half of those guys actually wasting their time posting in threads and making replys.

also u get special features in SoG *dragon among other things* if u preorder, so why should they allow a person to play with special features for about 6months, and then just have them cancell the account? thats bad buisness policy and ANY company can tell u that...

now if they didnt have any special features in SoG, for people who preorders then yes, i would have the same question as u.

    Okkkkaaayyyyyyyyyyyy

sixty dollars for a shoulder pet hahahhhahaha, if I had pre ordered and SoG was not everything I expected it to be I would be dialing 1 800 whine to my credit card company.

They have already started to back pedal now saying they are not going to let you transfer all your money to the main game, now it has been reduced to some. bad business is selling one thing and delivering quite another in my  opinion.

While I do agree with you that SoG is a scam for suckers (even though I bought SoG), in all fairness to NP3 they said before the pre-orders went on sale that the gold transfer may well only be a portion or be capped.  I am all for critizing NP3 as they seem to be a clone of Egomancer and those that made Mourning but in this case I don't think the criticism is justified as they were upfront from the start about the possibility of not all gold being transferred.

Oh dear. Don't some of you guys have anything better to do? I hope you keep thinking SoG/DnL sucks, as I really don't want to see you in-game. We don't need cynical perpetual whiners. Try going outside. Play with the traffic or something.
