I'd suggest you start with a simple game like tetris or a simple server/client chat program(or a MUD) if you haven't already. Or possibly a modification of a current 3d game. After doing them you'll get an idea of how hard game developement actually is.
Game design is by no means an easy task and it's all the more difficult doing it alone.
dead do you have any skills?? if not i would tell you its going to be a hard time, as me and my friends have tried before and its no easy task to make a game
you will need 3D Modellers, Programmers, Sound Artists, Texture Artists, and Map Designers, youll need to get an engine to run the program in also
Ohh Im So Scary... BOO

dead, can I join you? I'm learning C++ now
I know I'm a n00b , but I can learn alot of this.
none
C isn't harder than C++, some ppl find it easier, some find it harder, but with some C++ knowledge C learning goes much easier, just check out our forums:
http://www.shadowgaming.net/forums/index.php
If you need any help on learning C, there is a link to my ftp on the forums, it aint fast, but it contains a lot of programming books, C.pdf is a very good one to start with.
In order to realy become a dev it isn't that hard as a programmer, just need to pm BlueSin that you want to sign up for the job and further information will be given.
Also more information about the game can be found on the forums a bit, if you got questions, ask them there.
Also I am planning to hold a meeting soon, cause just want to plan more and brainstorm on etc.
Hope you will like it
All working together might make things easier, if you want to make a game completely yours thats ok too with me, only united it can all go better. This game is gonna be 3D too so that is the same, further you didn't post any info about story line etc so can't judge on that if it would be the same.
Why did they choose for C and not C++ ?
none
Some say C is better not to learn if you learn c++
and c++ is OO
none
c is like c++ but older and ppl don´t use c as much as c++ you might have more luck with c++

C is still 1 of the most comon languages used in education, since we aren't pro's or anything this is just the best I guess.About not learning C and C++ at a time, it doesn't realy matter as long as you remember not to use them at once, although it will compile in some occasions, it aint preferable.Further it aint realy that hard to keep it apart.
Ok, cool cause I know a little C

I should like to make a game all together! :-) That would be very cool, I am looking forward to the day already.. because I love being a leader of a game so I can probably become an admin and get bugs out of it and lead the game to victory!
Oh yes.. and about the game line I wanted to make it an MMORPG like Asheron's Call 2 ! www.Asheron'sCall2.com
There you should find all the information you need and you cna download the trial version of Asheron's Call 2 either.

Deadend
Want to start a game with me ?
I'm a n00b but I have some ideas....
We'll use C++, it'll be fun!
none
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DeadEnd if your going to make a game like Ac2, then use the graphical aspects of the game and NOT the gameplay etc. Don't just make a different copy of Ac2 and slap a new name on it, or your game will bomb as did Ac2.
Just a tip.
Btw, if ya need any 2-d artists, i could help, im looking for anything right now to get my foot in the virtual door of the gaming world. I specialize in anime-style art.

My dad told me that C++ is something for making games.. but you need to be great at maths for it!
Can you *if that isn't true* please tell me what C++ and C now really is?
I would really appreciate it!

C and C++ are the most widely used languages in the software engineering industry. About 90% of the software you see on the shelves in stores in writen in C or C++. Why C and C++, there has been a lot of code written in C and C++ in the past, companies have stockpiles of code that they can pick at and use anytime in future projects. If they were to change to another language then they would not be able to use all that old code, they would have to write new code and that would be a waste of time and more importantly, money.
As for having to be really good in math for C++, that is not nesecarily true, though it does help. You can program in C++ all day and not have to be very skilled in math. The only time when tough math comes into play is when you have to use physics to create a real world in your fake world. I hate physics and everyone I know hates physics too, but you need it if you want to program a game.

Aha, I get it! So... it's just a computer language... hmmm... interesting... than I can talk with the computer! (just kidding)
LOL!
There is one thing I don't understand! For the best looking games you need better gamemake programs though, a gamemakers program is always same graphics quality though, you can't change the quality of it with some words, isn't that true? Or is it just easy to change the graphics of a game? Or don't I really get what it all means? <--- That's what I think.
Oh well thx for your help anyways and I am going to try it because I would love to see people play my game!

Your graphics engine is what determines how nice and smooth your game will look and run. Ever heard of the unreal or quake3 engine? They are graphics engines. They do all the nice nitty gritty things for you and allow you to concentrate on other trivial things when developing a game. Developing your own engine is very complicated and can even be the back breaker of your game.
By "gamemake programs", I would assume you mean something like level editors. Something you can place units and trees and buildings with. Well these programs are usually developed by the programmers making the team. Once you know what you are doing programming it isn't that hard. But seriously dude, sit down with a C++ book and learn it cover to cover without skipping the boring chapters and then do the same with a book on OpenGL. Come back in two years and then you can start to create games. Or I heard of some software being developed that is like a level editor type thing, and will allow you to make your own games and play them online with friends, but then your limited to what they supply you.
