You remember WoW beta registration? That website lagged out instantly, 133 registrations per second is not realistic, the server couldnt have handled it.

marketing? they are free keys haha
Hype angerr Hype. These guys are masters at hype, amateurs at game design. I came home for lunch and I have a 1.5 mps upload rate and it went from not yet started to full between mouse clicks. So it would have had to been 10 registered in less than a two seconds. Funny part there was no lag, it was just l;ike a screen refresh.
Think about it they know the game is a POS, last nights skill tree release showed them that their fans are not nearly as they thought. Notice the game is delayed now to the 13th, on the 13th it will be delayed again and again because there is nothing even close to a game that the public will accept.

well w/e i guess you cant rule out the possibility, its still stupid and pointless and they would gain nothing from it IMO.
they already have all the attention they need, and ask yourself this...if the game really is a steaming pile do they even want more attention than they already have?
you can say what you want about the quality of this game but there is no doubt in my mind that Dnl has a huge fan base and that is why it is not a surprise if they did go that fast.
"but there is no doubt in my mind that Dnl has a huge fan base"
I am still trying to figure out why.. seriously.. Their website looks amateurish.. the games graohics are not so hot.. the gamplay concepts could be found in almost any other mmorpg out there..

Uhm... no. The gameplay concepts were what set the design apart from every single other MMORPG. Unless you've been smoking something while playing other MMO's and received hallucinations of their features, they do not have the features touted by the DnL dev team.
That being said, the gameplay concepts obviously aren't found in DnL either, it's a pipe dream nothing more. Sounds great on paper, but that's all it is... ideas on paper. Game resembles nothing like it's supposed design.
I am not in the fake camp...but, I do think a couple of ebayers may have set up a nice little script to spawn webpages and autofill them in. Much faster than typing....
Now, I am wishing they had that funny little box graphic with the text code in it to validate that you were a real person.
If they wanted to hype the game while there was no real demand for 10k keys, then they would do it in a fashion that would sound plausible. For instance, telling that all 10k spots were taken in the first half an hour (while in reality only a percentage of this was actually given). This would still give them very good publicity and would not cause wild theories like the ones in this thread.

not only all of this but wouldn' t it be really convenient if they got subscribed that fast and then say a week later they release 8000 more accounts that people can buy? If they sold out both other times everybody better jump on and pay there 60 bucks................that would be marketing
I do believe it. As I wrote in another thread: If they wanted to hype the game while there was no real demand for 10k keys, then they would do it in a fashion that would sound plausible. For instance, telling that all 10k spots were taken in the first half an hour (while in reality only a percentage of this was actually given). You ever think that maybe they are not smart enough to do it in a more plausable fashion? You ever think maybe thay just want to cover up the fact it is a POS?. You ever think that maybe the web server will not hold 10 k or for that matter 1 k w/o crashing? You ever think maybe they took the pioneer key money and used it for a trip to vegas. You ever think that this thing is nothing more than vaporware and a scam?
Ok, I have no idea whether this is fake or not, it seems like they must have spent a lot of money to promote this game, (including plugging it at E3!), just to try and con 8,881 or however many "pioneers" paid $60. Admittedly that is over a cool half million dollars ($532,860), but my worry would be about Farlan Entertainment Ltd, the people who make the game.
If you go to www.farlan.com, in the 5 seconds it takes you to forward you to darkandlight.net you can get to their contact page. It contains just 2 email addresses and their company address which is in Mauritius..... I may be missing something coming from backwards England but when did Mauritius suddenly become the hot-bed of talent needed to roll-out such a revolutionary MMO and have all these ninja servers that people keep assuring me the 'must' have.
Like I said, I hope it isn't fake because this game looks amazing, but....... spider sense.... tingling..... ?

The web server was stripped of its contents to allow a stable registration process. One big part of the issue with pioneer pre-orders was caused by forum traffic, which is quite demanding (especially forum search functions). I see no reason why their server wouldn't handle 10.000 registrations within one minute, considering the fact that the registration process demanded only one step, where a username and a password was compared with the forum account database.
Scam is a really exaggerated term, as the product does exist and it's kinda hard to hide a non-existant product from three companies (Farlan, AD, Snailgame) . Whether it's good or not is a seperate issue and I'll just see it for myself in Dec 13th and decide.

For the tinfoil hat wearing amongst us - ahh sod it can't be arsed blaha blah useful info is lost here
*puts on a tinfoil hat*
If you believe some of the rumors - at least 3k of the SoG accounts were reserved by Snail for the chinese players. Now Im not as fond of consipracy theories as some of the dogs on this forum but if it's true Im a little disappointed.
You remember WoW beta registration? That website lagged out instantly, 133 registrations per second is not realistic, the server couldnt have handled it.
Let me clue you in on a few things.
#1: You are seriously confused if you think DnL had even a substantial fraction of the hits WoW had.
#2: The way they handled this registration, there was very little actual traffic. I know most of you can barely handle turning your PCs on, but try to follow along here. Exactly 3 pieces of information were submitted here...
A: Your user name.
B: Your password.
C: A "Yes, I agree to..." checkbox.
If the average username is, say, 10 characters long, and the average password 8, and the checkbox probably constituted a whole single character (1 or -1). Wow! That's almost a whopping 20 bytes! Now toss some assorted overhead on there and...that's it people. No names, addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, place of birth, security questions, etc. There is little need to send any more information than that. Since your account was pre-existing, everything else took place behind the scenes in the database.

The chinese players had a seperate pool of keys, distributed by Snailgame. I've quoted Jodh (AD employee) on another thread about it. However, I'm not sure if 3k was indeed reserved for the rest of Asia, though I consider that mostly a rumour (probably there were 3k more seperate keys distributed by Snailgame in the rest of Asia).

what do you think was it real or not.....that almost 9000 keys are sold out
one of my squaddy tried 3 hours to get only one key without success, another one got one key but had really problems to reach the page....
what i think :
the sold out of 9000 keys are real...they could even sell more if they wanted
>>> so if they sell 9000 keys in a whole day which is even overpriced...dont you think 10.000 accounts for whole 6 months free game play is that much ?

By the way I didnt get one either, so I hope that makes you feel better... damn I'm tired, got up at 2am for nothing
