well that is the goal eventually.. once everyone has super fast internet.. to have console like gameplay, despite what these mmo snobs tell you with their archaic ancient point and clickers and trinity crap

i been waiting for capcom to make an mmo.. their art and style is awesome, dragons dogma makes western games like skyrim look hideous.. in everyway

    I really like this part...

Spell is so slow, that it was good that they found higher ground to safely complete the cast of it. I think that's really interesting.

Exactly one of the reasons why I hope its like this.  Environment should be a major factor in combat.

    Looks interesting... hmmm

So apparently there is an even more interesting twist!

Group Spellcasting: If a sorcerer (be it you or a pawn) starts casting a spell, an allied sorcerer that is close enough to the initial caster of the spell can mirror the spell and cast it much faster (e.g. If your pawn has started to cast high maelstrom and is almost done, if you're close enough you can start the spell at your pawn's current spellcasting progress, potentially making the cast time less than a second).

I think they call it spell synchronizing. Pretty cool idea.

Overkill lol. All the spell effects are intense, I love the meteor rain and that lighting whip thing lol.  If mages are anything like this in EQN, this would be the first time I would be a mage main in an mmo.

I just think that group casting mechanic is genius. The spell casting slowly drains energy until completion. So it could save energy for spell casters to co-ordinate that. And it gives many casters time to perform other actions if they time their synchronization to the original caster to happen just right. Some nice group synergy strategies there.

I'm thinking of picking up the game tomorrow after work now. XD

Had to share this, Mystic Knight has an interesting ability, plus fighting a giant dragon is always awsome.

I think Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma show that capcom is getting good at creating an interesting spectrum of rpg combat styles.

Capcom seems to be a very diverse developer, they have taken on so many different genres and made excellent games in all of them.  Dark Souls is made by From Software though.  I do wish Capcom would bring back the Breath of Fire series which was their first rpg back in the SNES days.  The best part is they are about to bring their way of making rpgs to the online world with their next rpg Deep Down for next gen.

Other mechanics I hope EQN adapts from this game are things like pitch black darkness, torches/lanterns, stamina, encumbrance, eating food.  Since SoE loves throwing out the term "Virtual World" then these gameplay elements are a must.  If a single player game can do this than surely a sandbox mmo could.   This game even has character creation most mmos would be jealous of.

This gameplay shows some of these features.

As much as I like King's Field (the origin of action-based RPG combat in a 3D setting), Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma, I don't think that style of combat would work well in an MMO. What works for small-scale dungeon crawling won't necessarily work for a massively multiplayer game.

I hope mmo companies learn from Dragons Dogma how Boss Fights, class flexibility and combat mechanics should be done. All three put together would make any mmorpg wipe the floor with anything out to date and upcoming

Got nothing more to say about it. Just watch and take note, devs.

looks good.. but that huge red health circle around the mob is annoying as fuck and i would be full of hate and loathing if EQNext used that.

You mean how the screen starts turning red? Thats happens when the players health is at critical to have the allusion of suffering and dieing, imo its immersive.

PC gamers have been trying to shout out to capcom for a PC version and I think theres a petition somewhere for it.  But still no luck.  I think they are just being lazy since its a whole different programming architecture from PS3 and they dont want to make it end up with a bad port like the Dark Souls PC version which needed mods to be fixed.

But I think next gen devs will be making more games for PC too since the consoles will have x86 architecture too

He meant the red circle on the boss at one point when the guy in the first video was casting an insanely long speel and got interrupted.

I dont think an mmo company would copy that little thing out of all the great things DD has to teach them.

Yeah, I could see them not wanting to, but it's still high on my wish list along with SE releasing a PC port of Chrono Cross and seeing Tanaka and Tokita work on some new projects together.  I know Tanaka takes most of the heat for FFXIV not being well received but that's unfair to me as he (along with Tokita and a couple others) have done such great work in the past (ChronoCross, Parasite Eve, the FF titles, etc).

It shows how SE can turn their backs on their own developers no matter how much good the employee done for the company in the past. And by that I mean Tanaka was the designer of FF11 their first mmo which made more money than any of the FF titles before it as stated by SE themselves.  As much I love Square they havent been the same since joining with enix, and have become a greedy control freak.  Which is why Hironobu Sakaguchi left them because he wasnt getting the creative freedom to make new IPs instead of just final fantasies.

I just hope DD comes to PC someday. I still havent beat the last boss on DD (Ps3) and i wont get Dark Arisen cos im not buying current gen games anymore (getting rid of it when PS4 launches).

I remember when Capcom said that if DD was popular enough they would make a sequel. THen they said the game sold enough to make a sequel. Scratched the sequel and relaunched the game for 30 bucks with DLC content included (stupidest thing ever) and their reasons behind that was difficult coding and stuff on that game to just make dlcs or something along those lines. I can see how there might never be a PC port :(  which really sucks.

I will simply write that I hope EQN combat is somehow unique in its own right and a thing we do not feel like comparing to any other game over much.

Well they are probably waiting to make the sequel for next gen which gives it a better chance for it to be made for PC too since PS4 is like a PC now.  It makes sense this way, why waste a sequel on old gen hardware where it will also be difficult to be translated into a PC version because of too many hardware and software differences. I cant even imagine how awsome this game will be on next gen hardware.

I think their voxel tech will give EQN some unique features to combat mechanics.  SoE did say that players and mobs get damage from the destruction of the environment if it makes contact.  I think there will be combat abilities that lets players pick up and hurl chunks of rocks or push boulders and stuff to the enemies too.

That dragon definitely didn't have emergent AI.
