Make sure after you install the launcher that you install the SoG.exe file into the launcher directory as follows -- c:/.../darkandlight/launcher/sog.

Then, move the dnl.ini file somewhere else.  For windows xp users, this file won't have the .ini extension.  To make it simple on you, it is the only file within the SoG directory that is named "dnl", and it is of file type "configuration settings".

Once this is moved, start the launcher and do a full integrity check (which is on by default)...should fix the problem.

Same thing here for myself and old TarValon.

No, at some point, you should have been given the option of making a game login name.  This is what you use to login to the game.  You use the same password as your forum login, though,
  • alphonzealphonze Member Posts: 17

strange, i never got that option and before i was using the same login and making it past the login...i think, and then getting disconnected.

First I got the "Go get the Indeo codec N00B you need it to run me" error, well I got that codec....

But now I get the runtime error:(

Sucks because the DnL site is down so I can't get tech support.

Removed the files from the SOG folder and now I'm getting "LOGIN_CUSTOM_DEFINE_ERROR_#"

    Or something to that effect.......

[00:34] <[AD]Jodh> The custom login error is because the login server has crashed, we are waiting on an update from NP3

I installed the Indeo codecs, reinstalled SoG, AND deleted the ini file, and I still get an error on the second screen with the moon logo and the Largest MMORPG slogan that says "DnLg.exe has encountered a problem and must close." It's not the same box as the run-time errors, obviously, and it apparently isn't solved the same way.

I sent in a support ticket at the DnL website TWICE today, the first being about 7 hours ago, and I still haven't heard anything from them yet.

First they screwed up when they started selling pre-orders (site couldn't handle the traffic, we all spent literally hours refreshing the screen to get through it)... Then the opening date came up and SURPRISE we're really just letting you register today, you can download it tomorrow... Then the day they were supposed to set up the download the link wasn't up until what should have been the next day in GMT... Finally the day comes when they open it and they have to push it back several hours... And now it's finally supposedly up and this happens, and I can't actually go talk to people on the real DnL forums because they were closed down to allow a better connection for the FOUR people that can get through.

If this game isn't so damn good I call off work tomorrow to play it, I'm going to ask for my money back. 60 bucks and it doesn't even work worth a damn. Anyone have any ideas?

For all of you who are just deleting files you might check to make sure your problem is the one that files are needing to be deleted for. Meaning, read through some of the posts and make sure you are having the same problems. Sometimes the server may just be down and your getting a completely different error than the one that requires a delete of files. You only need to be deleting files if your actually crashing with a windows error that says there was a runtime error. Any other errors including disconnects and login issues can't be fixed on your end.

Also for those of you who paid 60 bucks to play a game well before the listed release date.....why? Did you expect it to be worth the 60? It is a pre-order...you don't expect to get a copy of a game before the release date when you pre-order other games do you? ::::12:: If your mad that it isn't worth your 60 dollars to pre-order based off of a game that isn't complete wait until it actually comes out and try it then. That is what you should be basing your money's worth off of.

A trick for those of you who say you can't find the dnl.ini file: go into your SOG directory which should be under something like (C:Program FilesDarknLightLauncerSOG) and right click on some blank space in the directory. Choose New from the menu and Text Document from the dropdown menu. You don't need to put any text in there just save it as dnl.ini. It will likely tell you could not be created but if it was able to save try loading with it there. ::::35::

If this was addressed at me, it should be noted that someone DID specifically target the DnLg.exe error when they mentioned the deletion of the ini and cfg files, probably thinking the person was talking about the runtime error. An error within the executable is very likely on my end, the launcher said the server was up and I've tried the game with the same results many times through out the past 10 and a half hours. If the server had been down this whole time, we wouldn't have people posting screen shots of themselves in-game.

As to pre-ordering, if I waited for the game to come out it wouldn't be a pre-order, would it? I'm a bit of a completist, if I can't have the full package I probably wouldn't be satisfied with any part of it, and the pioneer package comes with some juicy benefits. Excuse me for expecting a company to deliver what they promise. I'll know better next time.

EDIT: On a side note, why am I an "apprentice" and the guy above me is a "novice?" He both has more posts and has been here longer...

whats this bullcrap now, when i tried to log in it says "you will be able to enter sog on december 13th, visit www.darkandlight.net/sog" its well past the time they said it would be up.

In my case deleting .ini was enough. Now it even plays music in start "movie". It says servers aren't up or something so I guess they're still having problems. What can you expect - schedules always get delayed.
  • mrjonesmrjones Member Posts: 4

yep, deleting the dnl.ini file worked perfectly.

servers are down now, but at least i got that far.

thanks for anyone/everyone who posted it.

just gotta wait for the servers now....

    What's an AD?

By the way, DnL sent me a message saying they're working on a webpage right now that will keep us updated on the status of their servers.

They respond pretty quickly if you send them an email from their support webpage.

  • holycannoliholycannoli Member Posts: 236

I'm starting to think the server will come up when monkeys fly out of my butt. It's been too long for professionals to not have solved the problems by now.

Or are they not professionals? They probably aren't. Heck they may have no clue what they're doing. They may be causing more harm to the server and launcher than good.
