Hmm well logged out to try and sort this no sound thing. Seems ok although yet to find a mob to attack ::::16::

The running animation or running in general and character movement seems choppy to me. And its damn dark hehe. Early days and lot of people logged on. The french are out in force ::::08::

the game runs very choppy, but it's open beta. Still alot of optimizing to do.

    I have to agree with Clinteast.  Actually I feel a bit sick.  <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

As you all did, I watched the game for months, booked a couple of days off, paid $90CND, waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, and got a buggy game that looks dark, choppy, and have been disconnected twice now.  All the launch BS aside, I feel sick that the graphics look terrible.  I know this is just the beginning but still, the screen shots posted on the site promised beautiful landscapes, sunsets and generally a picturesque world.  I suppose I was expecting a world that was a little better fleshed out as far as detail goes.  I really hope it gets better.

Heh, that was not the impression that I was looking forward to, but thanks for your views so far. One more day to wait to finally give this game a test. ::::21:: Hopefully this game will get better with time...

the game was laggy as hell

I got out of the main town with the air balloon then all was well

combat system is a little backwards

UI could be more user freindly (but I'm sure I'll get used to it)

graphics not great, looks a little dated

mobs..............sparse??? couldnt find much to kill

    french.............annoying :P

Lag is pretty bad around starter areas. It gets better when you leave it but its a very empty world.  Its very hard to find anything to attack. Graphics seem to be from around 1999ish. Combat is very slow.

Got to admit I'm pleasantly surprised after what I thought would be a class A disaster. The controls are a bit ungainly but after an hour I got used to them more. I've got a few kills, PvE plus a couple of lost Dark drakes ::::02::

Flying is something else, it's almost like being in a flight sim (IL2-ish in parts) soaring above the clouds then floating back down to land, and the drakes look awesome. Fighting is a bit slow but intuitive. UI could do with some work, translation works isn't good and bits of it are still in French.

A few guildies were getting kicked by the login server and couldn't get back in but I didn't have any problems at all, even lag wasn't too bad even in the starter down which was packed. Out of town and in the air really smooth. I've only got a Radeon 9600XT too. OK, so tomorrow won't be too much fun with 20k people on the server but in all honesty, I can't wait to get home from work tomorrow

    ::::28::::::28::

Keep at it devs, it could even be a huge hit

I set the grahics on 2 and I have not experienced any lag.  The graphics are certainly dated but they are not bothersome.  The character models again are dated.  Graphically, It looks to em like an improved version of Wish.  Slight;u worse than Horizons graphics but again I don't think its a big deal.

The UI is very bad.  Not intuitive at all.  The fighting is very choppy and not much to do.  Mobs are scarce while players are everywhere.  I reset the movement to the arrow keys.  The dragon assits you and seems to do most of the dame.  Turning is difficult.  Often during combat my avatar just move soff the mob and is to far out of range to hit him.

To early to judge on combat as I am only lvl 3 or at least I think I am level 3.  Overall I am having a lot more fun than I thought I would have.  I have crashed I think 3 times. Stability and lag are immeasuably better than I expected.

I just got booted off and it won't let me back in saying there is a user defined error.  This might be seriuous if I need customer assistance as I doubt there is such a thing.

Again its much better than I thought it would be but its way to early to make any judgments.  I would like to play a week then decide.  My initial hunch is its going to better than Irth Online but nowhere near as good as Horizons.  Buit who knows there may be some depthto gameplay.  The probem I see is learning how to play.  Again its not intuitive and will take some time.

I didn't do any quests or even see any npcs.  I did not go in any of the buildings.  Hopoefully I will be able to get back in soon.

Agreed performance issues aren't too bad for me and im running the engine on number 6 on my 9800pro lol :)

But the flying has to be played to believe the fight is ok not as bad as it looks in the videos.

If the devs keep at the patches etc this game will be a hit for sure..

  • fulmanfufulmanfu Member Posts: 1,523

put it up to 2 and you have 2 pets fighting for you, lv'ing go's nicely when you can find mobs :)

anyway my impression, the lag is killing me for real. i will turn my graphics down when the server comes back up and try again. i did try to go away from the starter place but...lag got better but there is no mobs or anying. the world is friggin huge thats all i have to say about that. ill post a ss of the map in a few.

i wish i would know how to get classes and all that so anyone figures it out fill me in, like at lvl 5 or 10 or whatever. i got to 5 and no idea what to do.

According to the manual when you hit lvl 5 an icon will appear on your screen allowing you to change classes.   Thanks for the tip on the 2 dragons.

Agree with Zippy and different. Though I would rate the graphics a little higher. But I have no eye for such things. Gameplay was EXTREMELY choppy when I first went in. Moved away from the mad crush of PCs and it got better. I did have to leave it at mode 1 for best performance for me. Toons look not too good and customization options are few right now. UI was unintuitive, though I did start to figure it out after a few minutes. I did not engage in combat, since I couldn't figure out if I had any weapons equipped or not. (They are on my paper doll, but don't show on my avatar). When I was running away from all the PCs, I ran off the side of a mountain by accident  and my avatar curled up in a ball and rolled down the hillside. :) It was fun to watch. I did find a few mobs to kill. Octopussy, wolf, zinzin (giant wasp). But as said, wasn't sure if I was equipped to fight, so I ran.

Can't comment on the flying. I got disconnected right after summoning the dragon and haven't been able to get back in.

Overall, though, I was taken by surprise. Based on videos I've seen from beta, screenshots and the overwhelming negative commentary of some people, I was expecting to dump my Pioneer key tonight. I think I'll hold off for a little while longer and see what happens.

I think we should wait till the "Stress Test" starts, till you guys complain about the game, I think it has a chance from the movies. And the graphics probally look bad because your running engine 1 or 2, kick it up to 6 to prove your self wrong... Well you can go on with ranting about the game...... Im going to get back to Dungeons and Dragons Online ::::32::

  • fulmanfufulmanfu Member Posts: 1,523

well its actualy not 2 dragons its your dragon pet and a kodo i believe. i put it up to 4 and i got some other pet i cant remeber the name, hes cool to ride though.

anyway heres a part of the map, im not sure if its the whole thing or not.

the red circle is the island eveyrone is on, and its huge. like...probably the size of one WoW continent almost.

the little yellow spec is where 90% of the people are located.

the rest is yet to be discovered

hehe thats funny, i was thinking the same exact thing for myself just wanted to check out the train wreck then get rid of it quick. ill be keeping too at least for awhile.

but i would definatly say the game, assuming lag clears up somewhat, is at least to the point one of the collectors editions pioneers(the dragons are cool i have to say) will always be in demand by someone.

Server is back up.  Somehow my char got demoted form lvl 3 to 1 and lost his dragon.  I think I will have to delete him.

  • fulmanfufulmanfu Member Posts: 1,523

oh one more thing. i didnt read up on this game alot but i thought there was no zones.

well i zoned thats for sure. and when i did my pets ran 2 seperate ways and i jsut followed the road. by the time the server when down, 20 mintues or so im halfway across the island noone around at all, my one pet is on a seperate island, and my other is running almost back at the starting spot o.O

    didnt dig that.

How did you get your name and pasword to work?

The early info worries me. First off, it sounds like quite a big failure considering that SoG in itself is supposed to be a complete mini game not further beta testing. All of the issues sound like it's closer to alpha testing. Certainly not where it should be. Though I can't play yet, it really doesn't sound like the April release date is going to be even close unless some massive hours of design cramming is planned.

But really what bothers me the most is the complaining on the interface. The UI is easily a game killer for me if it's not intuitive enough to control. One thing that is an absolute must have for me is left and right mouse button control on the camera view and character direction (ie. EQ2 and WoW). Horizons has it to a lesser extent (have to use the middle mouse button which isn't as convenient).

Also, the closing of the forums is more than irritating. It's like a slap in the face to the community following the game.

Ur name and password are your forumn name and forumn password. Once logged in you can pick a name for your character with a Captial. I.e I am Overfiend in game but cant log at the moment due to maximum no of players exceeded (Fingers crossed this is a temporary thing)

I played a little more and my thoughts are more positive.  I started a new char a Lutin and got to lvl 6 before the server crashed.  I got a dodo, rancho and the pioneer pet going.  The combat and UI is still slugish but getting easier with use.  I don't know how to change lass yet.  I did figure out how to fly my dragon and I have to say that is very nice and makes my rating of the graphics much better.  Flying into the clouds and over the landscape is very pretty.  If the combat, gameplay and UI would work better it could be a nice game.

My Lutin played much different than my dwarf.   Melee seemed much harder.  Thats good there are noticeable differences in races even at low levels.

The nice thing about the dragon is you can get on it look for mobs.  hitting the M button opens the map.  The mobs are red dots.  Hitting M a second time zooms it in before the a bug closes the map window.  If your fast you can see the mob lvl from the map before it closes.

I went looking for some NPC's in that town with K on the island just before the server crashed.   I did not see any.  Maybe there are some off the island.   The game looks very unfinished very much an alpha game not a beta.  I may be wrong but quality wise it looks 2+ years from release.

I still am enjoying the game.  Maybe my expectations were so low that the mere fact the game is somewhat stable makes much better than I thought.  I should say there is little if no lag just  a bad sluggish UI.  Regardless even if you hate SoG its worth taking a dragon ride into the clouds a few times.  It will do your moral good.

I am hoping comabt, gameplay and the UI get better.   It would also be nice to see some npcs.  Hopefuly their names are a different color than the green player names.

Great post, but I have to correct you about the map. You zoom the map in and out with the mouse roller. Hitting "m" makes the map zoom in on YOU until it converges into normal gameplay, so it's easier to tell where you are when you leave map mode.
