Played the beta of the original FFXIV and TRUST me, they are two seperate games....nothing similar except maybe the cities...that's it though.  completely different games.

So please try not to throw that out there cuz it's false.

As for server issues, I happen to remember WoW at launch had server issues (and other issues)....also had TONS of isssues on the first couple days of WoW's Zul-Gurrub Patch....I remember falling through an invisible floor, falling from the sky....then dying on another continent from fall damage....

I don't think "optimizing" is going to get SE anywhere, hopefully they are dumping more physical hardware into the NA/EU data centers.

Hopefully they smartly ordered said new hardware Saturday with priority overnight shipping for Monday morning, hopefully they are using VM's and SAN structure and have template and replication tools and can bring up the new software pieces for load balancing very quickly after slamming the hardware into the racks.

Is this really the sort of hardware you buy "off the rack" and have it overnight delivered?  Normal lead times for servers that I'm familiar with take a bit longer, even on priority but perhaps the world of gaming is different.

They likely have hardware standards, a "template" if you will - like their servers in their farm are HP Blade Servers, dual quad core processors, X amount of RAM, redundant power supplies, redundant 4 port NIC riser cards, etc. etc.

Be very, very easy to get a couple ordered up for overnight delivery.

Then, as I said, if their IT is smart they can put the physical hardware together quick and dump images of whatever software platform they need and add the hardware into the farm very quickly.

We have dozens of clients at my company with VM environments (VMWare) we could quote, order, have hardware shipped, physically place, and add a host w/ VMs to the pool from a template in under 24 hours very easily.

Only thing that might take some time is data replication/migration, but hopefully it is a fully SAN environment with multiple LUNs so the new hardware simply acts as hosts for a VM environment adding their processing power and memory to the pool of available resources.

Unless gaming is VERY different, and everything is 100% custom this and that.

wait wut? This is the least smooth launch I have been apart of in the last 6 years. WAR, Aion, SWTOR, Rift, TSW, GW2 all had way better launches FOR ME as I was actually able to play those games. I have been able to play a total of 4 hours and 2 of those I couldn't progress past lvl 10 class quest, couldn't access proffesion, couldn't switch jobs. But hey if it was smooth for you then my experience must be invalid right?

I didn't play long enough in beta 3, but it ran perfectly for me, and I didn't see any bugs... Of course, I missed out on beta 4 where everyone had login issues... Still, it was really nice and polished smooth from beta 3...

Enjoy the game, i know i will.

Beta 4, 20% of the population can't log in.

Early access, large amounts of the population can't get in(no exact figured). Yoshi admits that it is the same bugs as beta 4. They remove queues and prevent most people from logging in.

Launch day, new character creation is disabled on ALL NA/EU servers. Anyone buying the game at launch can't make a new character. Anyone who already has a character has a good chance of not getting back in again, ever, unless they are staying logged in and just AFKing while they sleep/work.

Yeah, just a few complaints about server congestion.

Ummm, every problem in under 2 days? really?

Error 3102 and 90000 more than 56 hours in beta 4, and Yoshi confirmed that those were the same errors we are getting in EA... So that is not 2 days.

Not even going to bother giving you the rest of the laundry list, but your sense of time seems to be a bit skewed.

That is what I was thinking too(which is why it makes me laugh when people talk about it taking months to add new hardware on the official forums).

Unfortunately, their announcement in both NA/EU and JP says that they will be adding servers for the JP region only. NA/EU are out of luck for the foreseeable future.

If you can't log into a game to play it, it's kind of hard to appreciate it. I highly disagree with the kudos the OP is giving this launch or pre-launch. Part of a successful launch is people being able to get into the game to play it. It's a good sign that their is a healthy interest in the game but it's been a disaster of a launch. That being said, once the major issues are fixed I do think this game will end up with a healthy population.
