Why is this so complicated???!

darkhalf357xdarkhalf357x Member UncommonPosts: 1,237

I just want to play the daym game.  I think its available for public release today.  I go to the Square Enix site and it says buy now.

I go to purchase the digital download but the purchase page doesnt accept my account.  Fine.  But when I try to finalize the purchase it tells me to login.

I already changed my password and still same issue.  I log in ANYWHERE else except the purchase page my account works.  Just not on the page to buy the daym game.

My favorite was logging into something called Lodestone (had no idea how I got there) and it kicks me out saying I dont have a service account?

This is overly complicated for no reason.

If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate some help since support doesnt give a fuck about me.

Store site is a separate account ;).

The lodestone is like their community page, basically when you have an account with a character / service on it, it will show your character info and allow you to connect to other users and things like that, it's also kind of like a news / update site. The store is a seperate account, when you buy it in their store it will either link it to your square account or email you a key which you put onto your square account. It saying you didn't have a service was because every active account is called a service, so if you aren't currently subscribed to the game you have no active services on that account.

    Thank you!

It barely makes sense.  I dont know why I just cant go to the store buy the game and just play.  That how every other MMO I've played was done.  But I digress...

Soooooo... I have to buy a store account?  How much is that?  Or is buying 'it' meaning buying FFXIV?  Because if its the later it wont let me do it without an account (catch 22).

And yes I dont have any active anything.  I was in beta that was it.  Just trying to buy and play the game.

This process is horrendous and there is no instruction on the page.  I had to go to an external website (here!) to get any semblance of understanding.   And Im STILL stuck because I dont know what abstract thing I have to 'buy' to play the damn game.

Thanks for your help. Its appreciated.  Just fustrated.

You don't have to buy a store account.  Just make one (although I think you can do it without making one as well).

Was reading elsewhere on this site you are better off buying it from Amazon, seems to be easier.

Im just not going to play this game.  THere is no place on the site to make an account.

Something must be wrong with the purchase site.  There is a clear space that asks for login.  I put in my email and password and it says its wrong (yet it works).

If I bypass adding my email - In the purchasing window it asks for email and set new password, which of course if I put my email in it says its taken.

I dont want to create a new email just to buy the game.  This is Square's loss I give up.

    Thanks all.

Why not just buy it from amazon or green man gaming if it's so hard?  I had no issues when I pre-ordered a month or 2 ago.

You can even get it from Greenmangaming.com and that is digital also.

As for Square Enix  you need to have 2 accounts one here http://member.square-enix.com/na/  and the other here http://www.square-enix.com/na/account/ . The first link is the one you need when you buy the game off the online store and the second one is the one you need to enter in your retail 20 digit code and will also contain all your service accounts.

^^ This. It was easy for me.

Blame them for the fact you used your current email to make an account but don't remember the password? That certainly sound like what is going on to me...

FYI, I had an old account for them as well, created years ago for some non MMO of theirs. I am glad I keep track of passwords for any site where I set one up.

Oh, so that's how you make a store account.

I had a similar issue as the OP the other day, kept looking for a store account registration and couldn't find it.

    Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?

You mis-read. I didnt forget my password. The purchase site wouldnt accept it. Still confused over the undwrlying issue but I dropped it. Im going to put my time into other MMOs. That experience left a bad taste. Hope the rest of you thoroughly enjoy. It looked fun

Seems Square Enix has prevented digital sales.  This makes more sense.  But wish they would have announced this.

Funny notes on the SE management system:

    - The official AAR site (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/) has no "login" option.

    - The community site Lodenstone (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/) has a login option - but is only used for "character" management of AAR characters - you can't manage the game account with it (e.g. registration code, add gametime).

    - The SE homepage (http://na.square-enix.com/us/home) has a login option, but you can't manage your ARR account with it (there is no link to the management site) - at least you see your games under "My profile".

    - The so called Mog Station (https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/Login?cont=account&request=mogstation) allows the management of your ARR account: - there you can enter a registration code or game time.

If you don't know where too look you won't probably find the Mog Station site. It is not referenced on the official FF site. However it is linked on the Lodenstone site - on the bottom of the page right next to the facebook, twitter and youtube links - so don't clear you browser history, you might never find back to the Mog Station site....

SE is known for their crappy and overly complicated login/signup whatever services (was horrid to setup an account in FFXI).
http://neocron-game.com/ - now totally F2P no cash-shops or micro transactions at all.

I've always assumed it was simply a cultural thing, although I have no evidence one way or the other.  I certainly can't imagine someone -intentionally- thinking that would be a superior way to setup a site for us lazy Americans, but I have little difficulty imagining that it makes sense to a culture that is very focused on structure.

Doesn't make it less of a nightmare for us, to be certain, but might help explain it. :)

SQENs account, preorder, store, everything web setup is the worst I've ever seen.  Needing multiple accounts to make a simple purchase, hopping between sites and domains, multiple codes needed, credit cards charged by a 3rd party and yet another site to consider.  It's horrid.  This kind of crap should get mentioned in reviews for this game because I can't remember ever having such a poor purchasing experience with another MMORPG.  SQEN's setup makes you feel like they don't want your money.

I suppose its little wonder the launch was a mess.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

Just a theory, but I think it's SE's answer to security.  They outsource their billing service, and outsource their venders, so they don't have to deal with security since its not even them.

    Just a theory.

God knows they don't run their own servers.......

Well for anyone reading this right now you currently can not purchase the digital downloads off of the Square store but when it does work all you have to do is click the Square Enix logo in the top left corner and it will bring you the the Square Enix homepage then in the top right corner you should see an option to make a Square account which is separate from your Final Fantasy account and this new account will allow you to checkout and download the game. Also after downloading the game you must then go to the Mog Station. https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/Login?cont=account&request=mogstation and login in with your Final Fantasy account here you should see a box with basic information and at the top it should say none with what looks like a loading symbol click that and it will bring you to a new page where you must enter your product key this is also how you gain access to your Collector's Edition items if that is what you purchased.
