Having been an MMO veteran of fifteen years, this game now ranks as the WORST launch of any MMORPG I have ever participated in.

Only because you want a specific server whenever YOU'RE available to create a character.

Also.. a VETERAN would point out that WoW was down for greater than 30 days (the entire "free" period) and was forced to give out a free month.  A VETERAN would point out that WoW also locked entire servers so you couldn't create toons on them (in fact MOST games now do so).  AO, WoW, GW2 (up and down + AH snafu), Neverwinters Catastrophe (though you could log in to that mess.. not that you'd have wanted to), the failed CO or STO downloads because of torrenting rather than hosting.  So many mistakes I could point out.... some fairly serious.

I take your 15 year Veteran Status add my 386 and 2400 baud modem to 19 years of MMOing.. (well technically MUDing followed by paid per minute/hour internet).

There is some serious hyperbole going on about this game...

This game has one single Problem: It's massive popularity that was very unexpected after the first release tanked. Really, the only thing that is wrong is that everyone want's to play it and not everyone can because they had to stop sales and exceeded server capacity.

The game itself has none of the usual MMO launch issues. I have not seen an MMO launch with no bugs, crashes, non functioning skills, broken dungeons, non working AH and even exploits except FFXIV:ARR.

Let's just look a the last few releases:

    GW2

    1. Stopped sales due to the same reason. Massive queues, crashes, server failures
    2. AH was not working for weeks with downtimes lasting days.
    3. Crafting was exploited and had to be changed completely.
    4. Still Now after a year some skills are bugged. They where a complete disaster at launch.
    5. Massive re-balancing of skills for all classes due to exploits
    6. Lag and Culling problems

    Neverwinter

    1. Bugged instances with massive issues. Getting stuck, endless spawning chests, boss exploits.
    2. Economy exploit so bad they had to roll back the servers
    3. Teleport exploit, Leveling exploits etc. the list is very long.

Personally, i take the few server issues over another complete disaster of a release where half of the game is bugged, unbalanced, exploited and followed by massive changes to the core system and sometimes even rollbacks due to exploits.

I think i would call this an incredible success not a failure. This is the best re-launch ever!

It may be the best re-launch ever but after reading your post here I wouldn't trust your word on anything , the fact that you either didn't play GW2 or if you did ...you sure didn't understand a thing about the game is enough proof that your opinion isn't of much value .The fact that points 1,3,4,5,and 6 are in fact bullshit says a lot about using a pretty weak defense trying to defend a flop of a release that might have stood the test of time in 2001 but in 2014 it's a disgrace.

As I've said in other threads, NOT MY worst (re)launch ever.

    Rift was worse for me.

    AOC was worse for me.

I had totally forgotten, but, Vanguard had an awful launch. Loved the game though.

Wow was bad too.. but again, my memories are not too specific.

Even SWG launch was in and out... And that was my favorite mmo of all time.

Maybe you missed the red, but I specifically stated the worst I participated in.  I did not play WOW at launch so that would not be in my list.

The others you mentioned...GW2 and CO did not give me the headaches this one did.

As for your implied suggestion that I am being unreasonable for my desire to create a toon on a specific server when my schedule allows...well, an MMO service is a 24 hour a day online service.  This is a service I have already paid the initial month for and although they have my money, I have not been able to utilize this service I have paid for because of poor planning on their part.

Do not blame the customer here when it is clearly the company's fault.

    You're being terribly unreasonable.

YOU want to be on Bahamut.  That's seriously going to be THE most populace server.

Do you know... true fact... that Disney World ends up closing it's ENTIRE park after reaching a certain point?  You know what happens to people who come in after the park is full?  They're turned away.  Does Disney WANT to do that?  No.  Do they do it?  Yep.  You know why?  Because after a certain point it stops being fun for the customers who then demand their money back.

Disney does it.  They're basically the who's who of consumer based products.

While I understand that your friends joined Bahamut, GOOD friends would help switch to a server you're on.  I've been in quite a few guilds that have audibled at the last minute because of server issues/capacity limits.

LOL, someone needs a hug.  While those were all pretty bad, but one could argue FF14 was down for 9 months and then still had problems.  Also they made the decision not to kick AFK players, stop selling the game, do major maintenance during US primetime, ect.... this after a horrible previous experience.

Can we get the location of those stats?  Because as far as I know, the numbers aren't out yet and all I've seen is Bahamut this/that/the other carrying over from IX/XIV.  Course, I'm just as guilty but seriously it's up there.

@Bhob, nah.  But I will agree.  1.0 was terrible.  Even telling people at the time how terrible it was, no one believed me.  I was labeled a troll and malcontent.  While I may be ornery and snippy, I try not to deliberately troll something.

I've unfortunately survived more MMO's that I'd care to count.  Hell I pre-ordered Horizons and Matrix Online.  Bad MMO launches are in my blood.  :-)

Where are you getting your information from?  I have been trying to get on Behometh.  It is not the most populated server, either.

    Just stop.  Really.

I got the info on server populations from a link on this discussion board, not this thread though... It was a massive ff xiv poll, and it showed Gilgamesh w/ 35% of the player base... Behemoth had like 6%.

    I can't find the link now... /sorry.

This has been anything but a success.  I'd call it more of a massive blunder on their part.

It would have been a success if they planned appropriately and had happy customers all around whom were able to log in and play the game.

I haven't had any issues. This launch, from my perspective, has been smooth as silk.

Everybody knows that the game is far more popular than anticipated by anyone. Try in your

That's great if you want to dig your head in the sand and ignore all the problems others are experiencing.  But then if that's your attitude, really, why bother posting on threads like this when you are experiencing the near perfect launch?

You think the folks over at SE are stupid? They reworked a game that failed hard, into a game that filled up every single server they have. You can't even make new characters on some because of how many people want to play this game.

Maintaining databases and server stability is so incredibly difficult and time consuming. These guys and gals are probably getting 2 hours of sleep every 24 hours to please you.

Shut up. Be patient. They gave you 5 free days. You're not paying for this, they are.

Yes, in reality you are doing nothing but sullying these good forums with your negative excrement. You're not fixing anything or helping anyone. Do something to solve the problem or do nothing. These tantrum threads are boring.

And I won't be paying for anything if they keep it up.  I've been on a MMO team at launch, I know what's involved so please don't try the ol' guilt trip thing.

You can say XX game was worse, but there were some seriously bad choices made on this one which have nothing to do with technical problems.

Hmm ok then let me ask you this...Did you have any notion that the game was going to be so popular after the initial release?

If you didn't then guess what, they probably didn't either. Sure you can say the should have known by the pre orders...but as has been pointed out most people probably bought the game the week before release OR the day of release.

And to answer your question..Yes I do expect most if not all of the new mmo's coming out to experience bugs and issues due to the fact that closed and open betas are nothing compared to opening the gates during full release. I'm sure that they will fix the game's problems with log ins and AFK'ers, as they have a large stake with their claims of subs being a viable option.

And I wonder...what F2P game is coming out that will compete with this and other sub based games coming out? I haven't seen any new F2P titles that caught my attention or that are already out dated because of being released else where but here in the west.

I'm sorry but the "happy customers all around" line is the most laughable thing I have read for a bit.

    Thanks I needed that. ^^

Seriously ...you can NOT satisfy everyone all the time, just be patient, they got a lot invested in this sub ploy.

Me?? Yeah I am waiting for it to settle down, like I always do, before I buy a copy of the game myself.
