basically , they broke the record of 325,00 concurrent connection and it is still going up. right now servers capacity of connections at same time is 413,000 while before it was 250,000. I think DOTA the current holder of 500,000+ concurrent connection at one point? would be interesting where this will go.
they decided to increase the amount of servers, implement auto-kick for AFKers, split the duty finder even more and increase performance of each server.
according to the unexpected sales, SE is backing up FFXIV even more and will add more hardware and infrastructure ( this is where I really hope they will start building data center physically in EU).

SE would have done what seemed impossible. Literally risen from the ashes.
It would make it unique in gaming. Mr. Yoshida and his team would be legends.
If they can keep half of those numbers in 2 months, it will be a big success.
On the other hand - if you consider that it is the only true cross-platform MMORPG, a title that is very popular and has huge fan base among Play Station users and it will be availble on Play Station 4, probably with updated gfx and great performance, able to handle huge number of players on screen at the same time (think mass PvP) with no FPS drops... if it keeps constant content updates... it may be really big
There is only 1 MMO I know of in the last 14 years that its popularity was go big to start the servers were so overloaded they could not function as they should. That was WoW. WoWs first month was so bad they were handing free game time left and right. Maxing out everyones rest exp to say sorry for being down for 3 days at a stretch. I think I got 3 weeks free my first month in WoW. Q times so bad it could take an hour to get in the game.
Look how that turned out for Blizzard. Not saying this game is a WoW killer, only Blizzard can kill WoW IMO. Just saying if this is any indication FF14 ARR could be huge! The game is polished and fun. It takes me back to playing EQ1 14 years ago and saying WOW I could spend years here learning about this game and my char. Im having a blast. Only 3 times in my years of MMOing have I had this much fun. EQ1 in 1999, DAoC in 2002 and WoW in 2004. This game brings back what made MMOs awesome. Cant wait for the servers problems to be fixed Im gona be a happy man.
I don't think that Sony needs the signal, they would be the one sending it. As for Microsoft, they probably won't notice the signal unless somebody hits them in the head with it.
I think the cross platform is at best is only part of why this game is doing so well. The mix of old school trinity. Where your role in a team really matters. Defined classes. Dungeons that scale and teach you the game because its going somewhere. You better learn this game or you wont get no easy ride. Crafting that matters... how long have crafters been asking for that? A really multi-class game. I could spend years playing all the class/jobs all on one char. Im really looking forward to end game =-) Glad the console players are happy. This PC gamer is having a blast lol
You may want to check our good friend Google.
FF:ARR is nowhere near a record for concurrent users, the highest i could find during my 2 second search was 5 million.

It will also send the message that says Subscriptions aren't dead. Dead games are dead.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
If you took the time to read, this was the original post:
"Just yesterday we learned that the game had broken the record for concurrent connections (users online at the same time) for an online game operated by a Japanese company with 187,000 users online at the same time, and today’s numbers are even higher."
So they are breaking a record (even if it's a personal one).
SWToR problems were polish and a lack of content not server overloaded because to many people wana play the game thats so well done. You have any idea how many copies they have had to sell to have this many trying to connect at once? GW2 record of the fastest selling MMO is goma be short lived lol.
Looks to me like they just didn't prepare properly.
People are having problems playing on a very limited number of servers... Like most games do these days, they should have started with too many servers, sucked in all that cash, then allowed server transfers for free when people calmed down and population dropped
Well considering how long Japan has been in the online gaming industry, having their previous record almost doubled by a game which had to be shutdown and almost completely rebuilt after a horrible launch, is both impressive and significant imo.
I agree. FF XIV 1.0 was about the biggest failure of any mmo in recent memory. Yoshi-P and crew took the game, rebuilt it (for the most part) and now have a successful game on their hands. This could send a serious message to other gaming companies out there as well, instead of just going F2P and calling it a day, take what's broken with the game and actually fix it.
Hopefully they'll get a clue with the SP versions of FF as well. FF XV doesn't look super appealing, perhaps with XVI we can get a great SP story with a more classic FF setting and new mechanics to support it.
I didn't see this answered but I would assume the reasoning is that Sony has developed and published cross platform online games before even if they weren't truly cross-play (DCUO/Free Realms), coupled with the fact that the only platform other than PC that FFXIV is available on is the Playstation consoles.
i dont understand how SE can give these numbers now
the game just relaunched and they give these numbers in 1 week when ofc will be very high like in other new MMOS that pop on market
i want to see the numbers after few months or a year
There will be a sizable drop in 30 days when those who are playing decide not to sub for one reason or another.
What that percentage is just that....a guess.
After that we'll see drops at 60 and 90 days with some of the 'on the fence' people who haven't bought yet buying the game (assuming it maintains at least a good following and delivers).
It's ALL a guess right now.
I'm just slowly leveling along waiting for server transfers to join my guild on Leviathan.
Lots of FFXIV:ARR to do in the next month or so.
We'll see how aggressively the game expands - adding new (and promised) features, new content, classes, etc. in the next few months.
That will keep players playing.
Housing, PvP, new classes, new raids/dungeons for end-game.
They can pump that out in the next 3 months, the game will do fine and I will keep playing.
The way things are going, Microsoft are probably going to be kicking themselves for not getting in on the ground floor with SE, and having the game on the Xbone, the game looks good on the PS3, but its not as good as the PC version, graphically at least, but the PS4 version of the game should be comparable to the PC version graphically. More incentive for people to get a PS4 im guessing.
I don't really care if the game becomes huge or not. In fact, I'd almost rather it didn't. I just want to see a healthy population in an MMO with no cash shop for years to come.
Not to much to ask right?
Do you know what the best indicator for me is regarding the success of FFXIV going into the future? Me ! I have never been the doom-sayer type. If I don't like a game, I don't feel a need to go the forums and rail against it, I simply walk away. I have never been the white knight type. If I like a game, I don't go all white knight about it simply because I know I am not the type to hang around no matter the game. I wasn't even planning on playing FFXIV. When I did, however, I could not deny it's goodness, and as many of you may already be aware, I've been praising it ever since.
FFXIV is just a very good game. Sure, there may be those that it does not appeal to, but that does not mean it is not a good game. All that means is that it does not appeal to a minority percentage. What this boils down to is a matter of preference. It is unreasonable to believe that a game will appeal to 100% of the gaming community. As an example, WOW did not appeal to me. I can not explain why. All I can say is that I never got past level 32 in WOW. Why? I don't know. But I put the game on the shelf and never played it again.
It is disingenuous for those people to whom the game does not appeal, to claim the game is not good simply because it does not appeal to them. The game IS good, and that is evidenced by the raging popularity of this game upon it's release, when everyone knew for a long time that it was being remade into FF:ARR but had written it off for dead. The fact that it was able to rise from the ashes like it did, despite its dismal initial release a couple of years ago, is nothing short of amazing. A final point to take into consideration is this game's developers and namely Yoshi P. He re-designed a great game when there was little hope for it. With renewed motivation of it's success, can you really deny what he will do with it going into the future?
FF:ARR is for real.
I had a similar reaction to FFXIV at first but know after almost two weeks I am not sure about my long term feelings about the game. One things the games you mention the FFXIV lacks is a feeling of scale. It does not feel epic. You are right FFXIV is a great game but the excitement is already starting to wear off a bit. Not sure why everything seems to be in place and I will give it more time. However last night After about an hour of play i ended up in WOW on the Isle of Giants with 40 other players and it was epic. I am happy you are excited and I hope it lasts but do not be surprised if it begins to soften a bit.
You think 53 full servers at launch is a joke?
Name another game that had 53 completely full servers at launch and had to suspend sales until they could get the capacity to handle them all. I can think of two games.
Its a sign of success. Theres no avoiding it.
Argue it wont last if you want, at least then you will have an argument.
