Ever since guilds become nothing more than Keys to content, storage, and exp bonuses.

Don't like the current guilds? Make one that suits you yourself.

This isn't a hard logic to follow but I guess some people just don't want to put in the 'effort'. Ironic isn't it?

It isn't that easy..  Games have changed since the old days..  Raiding is no longer a "come one, come all" way of having fun as it used to be..  Guilds with raiding is now more an Esport then anything..  REMOVE raid limits like the 10 man or 25 man crap, and design the games to be more open world and less instance and I would be MORE then willing to my best to bring back or offer old style guilding as it used to be..

The hackneyed cliche of open worlds and removing number caps on dungeons is not a panacea to guild problems. People are the problem not the games, just look at this thread lots of comments but no real experience or understanding to what it actually takes to run a successful guild. These players just want everyone else, including dev's, to do the heavy lifting for them just so they can have the rose tinted experience they thought they had many moons ago.

Oh.. I don't think I was saying players get a free pass here.. They too for the most part are just as guilty as the devs that design the games..  I have yet to see any game in the past 10 years that PROMOTES social gaming with good solid guild mechanics..  The last good guild I could honestly say felt like personal with was back during my SWG days..  (pre CU)..

Here's a hint, trying to find a guild within a video game isn't a good method.

Try a social media site to find like minded people.

It amazes me that some people on this thread haven't gotten with the times. Yeah, you can use MySpace to keep in touch with people but the world has moved on to this thing called Facebook / Twitter.

You are right. I am not into mmo at all. I just give them a chance since the devs seem to want to make them into lobby gamse, and solo games. There is no reason for me to discriminate them, just because they are not a ARPG, and that they use a city instead of a lobby.

I don't really care what MMORPGs are "supposed to be" .. but if a dev makes them into a glorified lobby games and beg me to play by plastering "free to play" all around, i don't see any reason not to take advantage of it. Do you?

go play fb games.... all you do is rehash the same comments....  we get it you like free solo games and like to solo... ok move on

Why should i when there are still some MMO games interests me?

It is silly to ignore a genre just because i am not dedicated to it. Do you ignore a good drama just because you watch mostly action movies?

Yes but you are not advocating all dramas become more like action movies are you? Whereas you do advocate that MMOs become more like ARPG's and other online games you prefer. Perhaps you could extend your understanding that we need more than one type of movie to an understanding that we need more than one type of online game? And that not all online games are going to have the design philosophy of you favourite ones.

Maybe that's because the social side of gaming has moved to facebook, steam, raptr, twitter etc.. I play MMO's to play not to socialise as games are for playing, I socialise with my friends in real life. I'm afraid that the sort of social gaming you are wishing for is not coming back in the near or maybe far future. But that does mean that interactive multiplayer is dead every modern MMO that I play has a very active community all working together to play the game. My current favourite Tera has Nexus, 20v20 PvP, Allliance battles, High End difficult raids, though I know its all combat but that's the nature of the beast I'm afraid as MMO's cost lots of money and take years to make and making another SWG is a no go for the investment needed otherwise you'd see a modern version being made by a big studio. Until development costs come down considerably and with the new engines coming out its happening slowly you just going to have to accept the status quo.

No. I am not advocating anything. I am merely point out my preference and that i play some MMO because devs cater to them.

I wouldn't care less if MMOs cater to something else. I have plenty of other entertainment, i would simply go somewhere else if mmo no longer cater to me. In fact, if devs were not bending over backwards to cater to my playstyle, i would not be paying any attention to MMOs, and i would not be even here.

But as long as some MMOs are catering to me, it is fair game for me to discuss them, the market trends, and my preferences.

Actually i only need online games that i like. I understand the others like different stuff .. but whether they are getting their preference is not my problem. I don't care if they do ...i don't care if they don't. Why should i?

There's not much need for guilds in today's MMO's. Most of the reasons for guilds were to support each other and help each other progress, and to enjoy the game better because of it. Game developers have selfishly (yes, selflishly) decided to do that for players through in-game tools (auction houses, quest trackers, LFG tools, raid tools, PvP tools) in the belief that more casual players will lead to more profits.

It's all part of the larger picture in MMO's of requiring less and less investment by players. It's also why a lot of MMO's are failing (no investment means no game, honestly).
