It uses the Planetside 2 engine and the graphics are actually very good.  They are just slightly stylized.  I imagine anybody complaining about the graphics hasnt viewed much content about it yet.

love it, it looks fairytale-ish and if the animations are good then it will be immensely fun to play.

Looks way too cartoony for me.  This isn't Everquest the way I remember and loved it.  Ah well, there are more gritty games coming out.  I hope you guys have fun with this if you like it, however :).

To add to what Bill said. Landmark and EQN are 2 separate games. But there will be spires between the 2 games so you can take your character in-between the 2 games. Landmark will only have an "adventurer" class with it's own skills but these will port over to EQN and be an additional set of skills. Also, there will be one continent in landmark where stuff built will transfer into EQN.

    Genius.

Players work and pay to design the EQN world for the devs.

I own a Carpet Cleaning business. anyone is interested, I'll let you pay me $100 to clean the carpet. I'll even give you an exclusive name-tag to do it.

Astral Terra has forthcoming Voxel rpg too

That video looks ok for a free game.  But it's not my cup of tea.

THANK YOU! If people didn't actively want to and enjoy playing beta/alpha tests then this guy might have a point.

For decades people have been dying to get into beta tests. You can get all self righteous and say "I just want to actually test the game and work hard making sure its good!" all you want. But at the end of the day, it's a video game and you're getting to play it.

If cleaning carpets was a lot of fun you're damn right i'd pay you money to let me clean them lol.

Ok, I'd really be interested to try this out, but... I simply don't have the money. The simple pack seems to be too basic, and the expensive ones... whoa for Alpha? Kinda expensive, at least for a poor sot like me! :(

Also, so we are supposed to pay now and Alpha starts on Feb/March 2014? Did I get something not right? Sorry, but pay and get. At least an early access. But paying now and playing next year... and THOSE steep prices... whoa, just whoa.

Didn't they say Landmarks starts end of THIS year? o.0

And then what about those who applied to beta, when you have to pay for Alpha Access?

Or maybe I got it all wrong. image

a big difference between the 2 modes

    EQN = Norrath theme only

EQNL = build whatever theme you like -- Scifi, Modern, Horror, etc

It's meant for the more die hard fans. They aren't really expecting the semi-interested to shell out $100. But they said the people who applied for closed beta still have a chance at getting limited access closed beta passes(I imagine some kind of beta weekend stress test deal).

The $20 pack will give you unlimited closed beta access though which isn't bad.

I will definitely check this out but in no way will I pay more than the $20 if I even do that. There is talk of releasing the tools to allow you to create your own adventures. Which is a good thing, some player made content is far superior to dev created content.

I am so confused right now!!

Yeah yeah free to play when the game is released.

Perhaps it's just me personaly but as soon I have to pay for playing a game I do just that play the game.

Besides that does SOE really need crowdfunding?

I am sure many will get one of those founder packs. Have to admit for a brief moment I thought of getting one but then I thought I will pay for some founderspack for a game released and to my liking.

I really don't know many company's (besides gaming company's) that let tester pay to test things. It's more likely the other way around either the tester get's payed or rewarded in some form.

In the end I do wonder about those who might have gotten the TrailblazerPack what the experiance would be. Would they feel they already in a almost complete gameworld with almost anything working as intentd like skills, menu's, settings, ability's.

Or are you being guided to actually test certain portion of the game with perhaps not even every skill/ability/feature working?

It seems a lot of people misunderstand.

Everquest Next is the next generation amusement park storyline MMO in the vein of EQ1, EQ2, WoW, etc. Its not a sandbox.

Everquest Next Landmark is the first-of-its-kind content-creation-for-another-game MMO, designed as a way to develop discrete objects that can be used and sold in Everquest Next. It is a sandbox.

Essentially... what used to be a separate entity in the form of developer tools, simply got turned into its own MMO, such that the users could access those tools and use them to make items for the game. Expect everybody and his dog to eventually be doing this. I'm quite sure Blizzard is taking notes on how to copy the system after admitting they screwed up and missed the boat by punting Titan to the end of the decade.

Welp it looks like Wushu for atleast 4-5 more months. I'm open to something better, but it looks like for 1 year 5 months Wushu (with planetside two on the side) will be my game of choice.

This is not even SOE's work/effort,this is Voxels is it not?You might actually say that SOE is getting gamer's to pay for the Voxel licensing.

I posted a game on here the other day Planet Explorers, they are also using Voxel and doing quite a few unique things and you can get in and play around as well.Basically the same thing SOE is doing but without the 100 dollar founder pack and instead of hiding they are sharing everything about the game.

It's because they threw the EQ tag on it that they get away with these things. Think about it:

They announce EQN and everyone goes wild. Another EQ game-bring it on.

They show the cartoony remake of EQ1 poster and catpeople. Alienates many fans.

Release minimal info on game pillars and show nothing like EQ in look, feel or mechanics. More fans lost. (though I'm not against many of the things they are doing in game ideas, sounds good, but seems disingenuous to use EQ brand for something so opposite of EQ.)

Round table polls that they ignore results or only ask things they think will give them the results they were after. More angst.

Almost every tidbit (though not many given) seems to alienate more potential customers.

And now the cheap money grab.

I don't know if it's because its f2p or arrogance, but they seem to have little regard for customer base and seem to think since f2p everyone will play it anyway. They might be better off just not putting out info at all and just ride the EQ name til launch.

And wait til they announce the CS and what you have to pay extra to build what you want. Uproar.

I know I'm sounding like a hater, but I am actually somewhat encouraged by many of the ideas for Next. I just hate these kind of practices to the consumers (they know that many mmo players will take almost any abuse or pay for anything, so take advantage). Let me pay my 15 per month, have a complete, finished, challenging and engaging game and you will have a customer for years. I'd pay 25 even if they need the extra money to be profitable, but stop with the BS.

Yeah you do because you are reading tons and tons of things into every action they have made as if you have made up your mind that they are out to cheat you before ever giving them a chance. Nothing in your post seems remotely likely to be true to me. I think you are just jaded by the company and it is clouding your ears personally.

On the one hand I find paying for something I get later, and paying for being "allowed" to be alpha/beta tester a bit obscene. I mean, isn't it I who does them a service by being a thorough tester? How did it happen our work to help now is something WE pay??

When I used to tell my parents I do beta tests, they always used to ask me: "And how much are you paid for that?" and were totally surprised when I told them, hey we have the priviledge to see the game! But now, when *I* have to pay to help as tester... it's a bit of a red line crossed, and ESPECIALLY with such prices.

Sorry, it just kinda damaged my esteem of SOE. I would expect that from greedy people like Cryptic, but SOE too?

First, the part of post you deleted was a chronicle of things that already happened, not me reading things into it, which have turned off many that were interested in game. Just showing how there decisions are losing EQ fans and not really in-line with the EQ brand. Kind of shooting themselves in foot.

And I don't think they are cheating anyone. We all have choices. But charging to test for them in alpha/beta in a game that will be f2p when launched is dubious at best. Not cheating as no one is forced to pay it and no bait/switch or anything, but It says something for how they view the gaming community and the fans of EQ. So yes, I am jaded at how many game companies treat the communities like brainless ATMs, instead of passionate fans that would be more than happy to pay them monthly up front, instead of nickle and diming people who are excited about the game.

And if you don't think they will be charging for things in a CS...well, we will have to wait and see, but if they weren't having a CS then why haven't they announced the good news yet. I thought i saw somewhere that they were charging for extra land (past what u get upon starting) and I have no problem with that as they need to make profit, but as most game companies have shown, they have little restraint in how much they try to milk. I just hope it turns out fun for everyone waiting on EQL and EQN. Me included.

I said it in a post a while back.... This is SOE. I will wait and watch before I react to anything and so far they have proven to me they are going the same path as before. SOE hasn't had a great game release in a long time and after the population in those failed they went the way of horrible F2P models. EQN looks like they are just cutting out the middle and heading right to the horrible F2P part.

  • yangdudeyangdude Member UncommonPosts: 72

Pay - don't pay - meh, who cares.....

I am wondering though, is Landmark a fully fledged game?  Like with mobs to kill/quests/crafting etc, or is it purely a cad type support program for EQN?

I prefer stylized/cartoon-like visuals in my games. These screens are making my eyes hurt, no joke.
