SWG at release would be my number one

Saga of Ryzom, Mourning, DnL/SoG, and Wish would all be high on my list also

    I miss DAoC

I can only compare to what I have had exposure to in the last 2 years or so, and SWG definitely tops. I mean, the article in the New York Times says it all.

  • MordithMordith Member UncommonPosts: 210

    Easily SWG.

For those saying EQ2, you may want to try it again. That game has vastly improved since release.

Released games: SWG. Already in beta people told them about the huge flaws that game had... Did they do anyhting? Sure.. A few years later the flaws are still there, but they removed the good parts of SWG and added MORE flaws!! No developer.. ever.. in history.. could fail with a Star Wars MMO.. but SOE.

Unreleased letdowns: Mythica.  Just... wow. Amazing game ideas... Just so far away from the cookiecutter MMO, really a whole new game idea. And thrown away because of a small name problem.

Edit: Ah.... So, just by chance... right after the Mythic lawsuit, they decided to drop the completly new type of game and instead start all over with a generic fantasy for someone else... Sounds plausible.

It should be thrown with great force"

No it wasn't thrown away because of a naming problem. Microsoft Game Studios and Sigil games got together and they swapped ideas and decided to implement some Mythica idea's into Vangaurd: Saga of Heroes. They dropped Mythica because they didn't want to directly compete with themselves when they decided they were going to fund Vanguard: SOH.

Now that I see people mentioning Dragon Empires I do feel that game was a rather large let down, but not necessarily because it didn't make it to the market. Any of you guys who followed the production carefully should know that a few months before it got shut down the Codemaster's team took a drastic shift in the game ideas. They started rapidly changing the things that drew a lot of their fanbase to the game in the first place. I remember reading up on the major concept changes the developers had made to the game and thought to myself that it had no shot like that! And sure enough a month later the game was canceled.

SWG was a huge letdown and there is no reason fo rme to even log in anymore, my server is empty and still lags bad. THis game had the most potential and they killed it by dumbing everything down and lieing to the playerbase telling them that "once u try it u will love it" BS!! Tried it and hate it!!

The second biggest letdown has to go to The Matrix online, before SOE even touched it I found the game sooo boring and soo repetitive. Every single mission is the same with no exceptions, when I played all u did was do a stupid mission killing npc's or getting data from an appartment building. The combat system was also the worst I have ever seen and made absolutley no sense? The whole design of the game was pure junk and I hope the dev team that made that pos got fired, now SOE is incharge lol. This game has a bright future lol not!

    {(RIP)} SWG

The biggest let down was The Matrx Online. I still have my pre-order box sitting here in my drawer of pc games, saddens me everytime I glance at it. I was part of a great group there, and the potential was incredible, but the game, events, and content were a complete let down.

Before that it was CoH, which was not a let down until the higher levels when the grind became ridiculous. I must have killed 10,000 Nazis, Nemesis, and Werewolves between 45-50. Once I hit 50, nothing to do but kill more Nazis, partake in long and repetative TF missions, help lowbies PL, or earn badges.

SWG, it was a good game when it launched and all they really had to do IMO was fix the bugs it had at the time, tweak some proffs and add more content but it had the foundation that was fun, then SOE/LA changed it with the CU(combat upgrade) instead of fixing the things they promised to fix and from there it went downhill becoming generic in most aspects. Then they did the same thing yet again and made it one of the worst MMOs I have ever played introducing the NGE (new game enhancments) which made the game so bad people are leaving in droves, leaving SOE/LA openly combating the majority of public opinion with desperate sounding adds and free game time to vets. The game is horribly broke and riddled with bugs (many bugs now lasting 2.5 years and still going) With each change SOE/LA keeps turning most of the game items into junk so now peoples houses/factories/storage filled with stuff the players can't and or wont use.

it could be one of the best games out there..maybe if they shut down the game..work on it about 6 months, and re open and re sale it as a new game, then it would be awesome(well if they fixed the bugs in those 6 months lol)

I say WoW, such a good company with such nice ideas,

    fell under the grind...

    It all sucked.

    Daoc...

was a good game at first.. but now Mythic just seems to want the game easier for eveyone to play.. big let down was this latest new patch... took me 3 years to finally leave the game, but enough is enough..instead of making the game better.. they just make new content, to go right over the bugs.. making new bugs..

By far it is WoW. I really looked forward to that game. Quite unimpressed.

SWG, I played this game for a while. But in the end I look back and still see it as one of the greatest let downs for an MMO. I'm not sure what I would blame it on, but I can say with confidence that the game wasn't as good as an MMO based on the Star Wars Universe could be.

It's a good day to beleive

I concur, Eve was a let down for me also.  For me it would be a good second game but not primary.image

For me it was LOY(legacy of Yeaksha) for old EQ...Iplayed a Troll as my main, and was looking forward to more quests and background on my race...instend, I get booted out of my home city, they revamp the best newbie zone in the game, and it is all about the god damn Froglocks!

As for gameloading's comment that COV and COH play exactly the same...uhm, were you playing blindfolded, cuz that is the only way you could think a blaster plays like coruptor::::12::

    CoH and EQ2

  • mechwarriormechwarrior Member Posts: 241

    Eq2.

And coh Is great. Don't ever put eq2 and coh in the same boat.

Coh is amazing in how much better it is compared to eq2

    Shame on you

Wish.. promised to be the next UO.

Can't say SWG cos I was in the beta and it was fun to play then, even with the bugs.

Dark and light currently abit of a let down.. been on server once since opened, no spawns so couldn't level.. after 2 hrs gave up, never been able to log in after that.

Now playing EVE, mainly cos it involves risk; rather than being wrapped up in +3 pvp resistant cotton wool overalls for your gaming safety.

Matrix was a big letdown(looked forward to that for months), as well as Roma Victor. ::::21::

Biggest dissapoinment: SWG. The first mmo I realy spent some time playing, and I learned what rubbish realy is.

Runner up: WOW. Was looking forward to something new and different...not even close. Its better than most but its still just like everyother game, and I've already played everyother game, thus by logical extension, I have already played WOW - so why bother with it.

  • qotsaqotsa Member UncommonPosts: 835

Biggest letown for me was EQ2. In my opinion one of the worst games of this type to come out. I played for my one month trial and gave up. All games have grinds, but they just seemed tedious there. Another thing that bugged me was everything was brown and plastic looking.
