This is a topic about rekindled love for GW2
Like most of you I was extremely hyped for the game since it was announced. The coming of MMO messiah.
Preordered game from the first minute , while servers were melting. Played all betas.... etc
Most of us have been there.
Should I talk about disapointment? I guess not, we all felt it.
Point is I still play GW2 after all this time. Not every day - but thats the beauty of not having sub.
But the lack of PVE progression has made me play less and less. I just dont see the point.
So what changed ?
Like WOW , the game matured. There is so much content now , weapons , armors , crafting. Its hard for any MMO to compete.
And bi-weekly updates !
I just start every two weeks. Play trough the story get the "achi". And than I take a break.
GW2 is so good it lets you play other games too
The population is as strong as it was ever been. If not bigger.
WvW is improving.
I have recently tried some highly anticipated betas. But paused them to play World story updates.
So thats it. I think A-Net are at right track. And the game is coming into its own.
Its great again

Still thinking this isn't the title for me, but enjoy.

It's a really great casual game, but we all know that by now, right? Great game to play for a few hours now and then. You don't need to worry about falling behind much, so what if that other guy has tons of in game gold and you don't? It doesn't stop you from enjoying the game if you're not looking for a game to live in 24/7, you should have a real life for that.
I've never even considered to stop playing. I'd prefer more permanent content to something that is only temporarily available and forces me to play for at least x hours during those couple of weeks in which the content is available. But hey, no game is perfect for everyone, not even for me. Still, best thing around for me, by far.
Well, as in : Having no sub and no worry of falling behind
I had fun teasing people who were over hyped for this game prior to release.
3,001 hours since head start... eight 80s... all crafting professions maxed... high rank in WvW... SPvP... made it onto achievement leader boards... have legendary... Done it all.
Getting bored now though and looking for some thing else.
Problem is. All the up coming releases look like junk.

havent you heard .. its been reported that , " the best way to enjoy GW2 is by playing something else"
aside from that i also had high hopes for GW2 , but it failed for me in so may ways it is completely off my radar and there is no way of returning...
lol must have been a deep trance you made a sig about GW2......
Optimizing PC games for consoles is kinda like outfitting your car for a bike trail.
I play only for the living content which takes me about 3-4 days/1-2 hours per day to complete. My problem right now is the lack of progression.
When Ascended weapons and crafting came out I became active again same thing with the new fractals update. I m doing 1-2 fractal runs per day my goal is to reach lvl 50. I love the mistlock instabilitys each fotm lvl is unique in his own way.
Only 2 updates left for this year so if what they said is true, ascended armors(and maybe precursor crafting?) will be released also all the crafting professions will reach 500 cap. I have high hopes for the next updates and I really really hope that scarlet will die before 2014 and a new dragon will become the main vilian in 2014.
ololo
You have to remember there is always a rotative community of people who return and leave in a never ending cycle. I think this updates keep the insterest of people for returning to the game. Perhaps you cannot catch all the updates but at least everytime you seat back in front of your computer, there will be something new to enjoy.
Well if there's really no place to go then you can never really fall behind I suppose. I can't really subscribe to the random, I'm more a follower of purpose.

If that's the case, then I've been enjoying the heck out of it.
+1 for the Dr. Strangelove reference.
Glad you found something that is holding your interest this long. That's a rarity in today's market for most people I think.
Exactly the point of my post and the title.
How and why I transitioned from hating zero progression, to loving it.
Key of enjoying GW2 is enjoying the gameplay , and not viewing it as MMO in traditional sense.
125 days of play time isn't bad at all for no sub fee.
It's pretty.
Even though it seems counter-intuitive, this IS a very real boon in an MMO for some people. I personally love the freedom of GW2's model in my adult years. I can distinctly remember the psychological pressure that came with clicking on that "resubscribe" button on WoW's website all those years ago. Suddenly I felt I had to play the game in order to get my money's worth, even if all I did every time I logged in was stand (jump) around in a city while reading the vile trade chat. Whenever I was subscribed to an MMO, I had a real tendency to ignore single player games. What it was game time, I reached for my MMO. I'm sure not everyone operates this way, but I certainly did.
With GW2, I have no hesitation to play any other game that comes out that I may want to pick up, including other MMOs. Then whenever I log in to GW2, I'm always having fun, never wasting my time doing trivial stuff I don't enjoy just because I feel obligated to keep playing. Plus, amidst all of this, it still manages to be the game I play the most. It also feels like the game that has consistently given me the most stuff I enjoy doing since vanilla-BC WoW. It just feels like a win/win/win to me.
Key point here, good post.

This...
I do have GW2 and I log in once every 2-3 months for 1 hour and forget to login again. What this game has that don't make me log in? I think GW2 issue for me it's that the game is not built to be played in groups or as a mmorpg, it never had that feeling and the no roles is main factor for not needing a party(all classes can heal themselves).
Likes: The world and cities, underwater world, movement and combat.
Disslikes: Quest system or hearts as some call them, the forced sync in each area is idiotic how can I a level 40 warrior drop in levels cause I entered an area where mobs are not 40!!!!, way too many type of currencies, I didn't hit endgame but heard that there isn't any endgame, no roles, buy to play but you have to buy more bags slots or it's not playable so the buy to play is a lie you end up paying more then subscription with the little things here and there that are needed not just for fun.
edit: I payed about $120 with the game purchase and the iventory and other needed things and haven't played the game more then 3 weeks in total so this game costs way more then a subscription game by the way.

My opinion
I enjoy GW2 and play often and agree with many of the previous posters expressing enjoyment for the game. Difference with me is that I don't really enjoy The LIving Story all that much. I think my skepticism started somewhere around banging 75+ signs in the ground to warn refugees. I exited The Living Story chain somewhere around Southsun and that crab toss that had me pulling my hair out. At this point I have no idea what is going on. I know there was an election and Ellen Kiel won, although I forgot to vote. Most of my time is spent in WvW and I'm eagerly anticipating the new Mist map.
I started out as an exclusively PvE player who couldnt wait to play GW2 and get lost in these great dynamic events and stories and Ive become a PvP World versus World player who rarely does any PvE in GW2. In no way did I expect this to happen and still a bit puzzled about all this. Occassionally I will log in and do some PvE while I wait for my WvW queue to pop and then say "Oh finally" before I leave PvE world. I think the biggest problem I have with the "dynamic content" is ultimately it is a poor way to deliver a compelling story. And the personal stories? My one character has a couple more stories to do to finish, one is stuck at level 39, and another is around level 25 and they have been like that for months now. Im just not motivated to finish any of them.
I continue to log in almost every day and can be found in Eternal Battlegrounds all the time. GW2 allows you to play the parts you like.
"Gentlemen. You can't fight in here. This is the war room!"
I have seen Dr. Strangelove so many times, and yet each time I see it I seem to enjoy it more and more.
Despite the Dr. S. reference though, GW2 just doesn't do it for me. I think they abandoned their GW1 base with the lack of skill variety and the lame gear treadmill.
I haven't played it since a month or so after launch.
Fractals is a joke. Why does a GW game have some lame end-game-gear grind? And it is even randomly generated and there is just 1 of it, to further make it boring and monotonous.
A few of the posters in here and on other GW2 discussions have complained about the lack of progression...
If you remember GW1 had it's top level at level 20 which you reached fairly early on. Really level 20 is where the real game began. I see that as arena net taking away the emphasis on player levels and instead wanting people to play for reasons other than leveling up.
One difference though was that GW1 had the signet of capture in which you were able to learn new skill from dead bosses throughout the PvE world. That gave you a sense that you were still progressing even though you were at max level.
If Arena-net would allow us to capture elite weapons which were new types of weapons with totally new skills, or allow us to learn new skills from NPCs in certain situations then this would help to continue progression after max level.
