I was shocked to see no Fallen Earth in Most Anticipated.

For best PvP, I would have chosen EVE Online, but it wasn't an option.

I like most of the nominations, except for one.

Blizzard, in my opinion, has the WORST customer support of any game I have ever played. Also, most of the 2005 updates were timesinks.

EVE not nominated in the PvP category?

Strange cause there are not many games that come as close as EVE to well balanced and meaningful PvP!

  • phoenixxxphoenixxx Member Posts: 1

Yeah, EVE is probably the most PVP focussed game out there. PVP by far outweighs PVE. Technically even the whole econmoy in EVE is PVP too (well, not combat per se of course), but sometimes i d say the market is just another battlefield, as all there is playercreated too, and based on competition between the producers.

Woo, that was fun, can't wait to see the results :).

I was a little dissapointed that Spellborne wasn't on the most anticipated list ???. Especially considering that it's been on the main page most anticipated section for ever now, lol, I realize it was a tough list to put together but thats seems a little, uh ? Odd.

Would have been nice to see EQ2 in the favorite games but I can see the appeal to keeping the nominees to only five.

Either way ! very very cool, fun fun times.

I would have to agree with those who say Star Wars Galaxies does not earn a spot in the "best story" category.

Sony has flat out admitted that their game was not "star warsy" for the past few years. That alone should say enough to remove it as a possible choice. I would bet most players have zero idea when the game is suppose to be set in the star wars time line. It is cool to run around with blasters and such, but the game play really is not immersive and gives very little reasoning as to why.

To the person who spoke about SWG being a "sand box" game. That is the style of play/design, not story line. I am not knocking player driven content, but it is not story line.

  • SheistaSheista Member UncommonPosts: 1,203

A couple of those possibilities made me just wonder "Why didn't this get chosen?"

IE, best PvP game being UO or AC? Many label those as the best PvP experiences they've ever had. Some of those on the PvP choices I was kinda just like "Huh?"

For instance, Best Lore, if Asheron's Call had been an option, I'm almost sure it would have won. The story and background was involved in nearly every big quest in the game, and considering it was the first game ever to introduce monthly updates (including story updates), I'm very surprised it wasn't on the list.

which means that at least those people thought that it was a quite important matter as to bother making an account.

I dont understand why World of warcraft, wasnt in best PvP, but yet it was in best PvE

I dont know about you, but wows PvE generally sucks, tell you get to high end instances.

WoW is also crappy in PvP.

    Nothing

WoW wasnt in PvP because Battlegrounds is sloppy, badly integrated, and just plain bad. Games like DAoC, Guild Wars, and all the rest actually thought about their PvE before implementing them... and frankly, I think DAoC should win hands down for PvP.

For anyone who has played RvR it is an amazing concept, and actually put more than just Players into the battle... you actually have to capture, destroy, and dominate the castles/outposts.

On a side note... even though WoW isnt my favorite game, by far, I found myself voting it a lot. Graphics especially. The graphics werent "Best Graphics" but "Most Pleasing Graphics" and frankly, I liked the artistic look of WoW. Realism is overrated, I think the semi-cartoonish look works awesome for the game.

Good job on the awards MMORPG... The Saga of Ryzom all the way for story line!!! ::::15::

Also, the gankfest in contested territories does NOT qualify for good PvP.
  • kefkahkefkah Member UncommonPosts: 832

A couple of odd choices in the cats though the stumper to me was best world and storyline. Even in this year - some of those would have never even come to mind if I was asked directly. What would have been interesting is to have a vote off in each cat from all games and then a second vote for the finalists. May not have been time left for that and there is always the chance of fake votes.

Still, I think it was a good idea for this and hope it shows the MMORPG makers that we do pay attention. Now how about a Razz Award for worst of things so that we can also make a few more points to the powers that be. >:D

Absoltuely laughable that the best PvP game on the market, Eve Online, isnt a nominee. Completely renders teh entire thing useless.

Some comments... One hopefully you guys give us some slack, there is no right choice in many of these since someone is going to be upset in all times. Remember, to add someone in you need to take someone out.

EVE in PvP is a decent point, but again, who do you take out?

Spellborn is also a game that could have been on the Anticipated list, but so could 10 other games and the 12 that were already there. Given their hype meter rating though, perhaps that was an oversight.

If we have close categories I have considered a run-off. If we do this - and no promises - I will add the larger oversights into it at that time. To date the only things that I have heard that I feel qualify are AC in Story and EvE in PvP. I cannot say I'll do it in Anticipated as the category would be 12 big again :)

    Thoughts?

We have done as much coverage, if not more, than most other sites on that game. It didn't get nominated due to numbers. The very last thing I considered was marketing dollars. It eventually got cut because it slid off the face of our hype meter after a big surge this summer. Personally, I am looking forward to it, but I felt that the 12 games we eventually picked were more representative of our readers. As I said, not everyone can get onto the list.

In general, I appreciate all the feedback. I have some ideas on how to improve things next year. I hope in general you all enjoyed our first voting.

Would have dropped GW from all catagoires, just not in the genre, but then they are part of mmporg.com.

Eve is heavily pimped on this site.   Not that it is a bad game, though I personally could never keep a connection up, and its brutal on disconnects.  But if you mention Eve over here you'll get 5 new accounts telling you how great it is, so take it for what its worth.  Worth your time to go look yourself, if you can take running cargo ships.

DAOC for "great PvP" isn't even remotely serious.   2 second pvp is great?  Joke post.   But the RvR concept is very classic.

I thought "best storyline" was a throwaway catagory for games that would not normally be rated by anyone.   "Write-your-own-story" SWG doesn't count.

I think for next year you should add in a "write-in" option. That way you keep the top 5 titles in that category, but you also leave it open for people to write-in their own vote. It is, after all, Reader's Choice Awards. Otherwise rename it to MMORPG-Editor's-Suggested Reader's Choice Awards.

[edit] sorry didn't want to make it sound so negative. I did enjoy voting and enjoy MMORPG.com
