The article starts in a manner that proves people are buying into scripted videos before the game is even out.
Saying it is a sort of comical type game is basically pointing at the videos.Yes i love their videos as well but that is NOT the game not even 1% of it.
Truth is we already know WS's one gimmick,it's selling point was/is the red carpet telegraph system..
I think there is definitely a strong debate as to weather it is a good idea or not,i think it looked good on paper but is actually another hand holding idea in a genre that most certainly does not need any more hand holding.
Graphics wise, art style has nothing to do with it,they are very cheap graphics.
Point to one thing Carbine is trying to sell us on this game that is not same old same old?Even their MODES,example adventuring is just taking a piece of a whole game and dividing it up,really imo a waste of time, nothing ever stopped anyone from playing their own style before.Games such as EQ2 have been handing out free xp and awards for just walking into a new spot that was actually fed to you via a quest.
As i mentioned,i love the marketing videos,OK that is a great way to hook people in to take a further look and it worked, however now is time to show me something worth playing.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I don't have much expectations, and I'm not fond of the graphic direction. I usually give every AAA MMO the usual month try, but I may very will skip this one. Honestly wish they had instead allocated resources to getting Blade and Soul released first, but whatever. Hopefully, they'll release that game in 2014. I'm tempted to play the china version, but I'd rather play it fully translated.

Worry some article makes me wonder what game he played or was he spoon fed what to say, while I can't say much one quick point, there is no zero zilch nada not even one decision you make in the tutorial that has any impact on your character, so not only a poor article but some outright lies ....mmmmm
as to the wow clone comments will these wow kiddies ever grow up....somehow I doubt it as it's all their little brains can come up with.
There is also one little thing to add just to make sure its out there. The video's that were made (other than the first Trailer) were all made in game. All those things that they did are doable via the Developer kit they are giving us on release. i think people just dont want to admit that Wildstar may be good.
This is barring the Sandbox Radicals, Sandbox radicals are like heavy metal fans. If it ain't metal its shit.
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.
Sure is some mighty formidable praise, considering the game hasn't even released and 99% of us haven't even touched a Beta version.
What an utterly ridiculous thing to say about an over-hyped game, that has yet to deliver on ANY of its so-called "innovative!" and "groundbreaking!" claims. Remember all the things ANet claimed about Gw 2? And how many of those claims turned out to be utter lies?
So...is this site being paid to promote WildStar? You know, the same way in which Massively is paid to promote Gw 2, even though they continually deny it?
Just wondering...

My problem (and I've said this before) is that the fans are insane and rabid and the developers are apparently okay with it.
They are depending on diehard core-gamer fans way too much to ever amount to anything. They remind me of the Pirates of the Burning Seas developers (before the game was released) more than anything else.
I think they are in for a rude awakening when they release and realize their insane fans aren't enough to give them a sustainable income and they should have catered to casuals a little bit...
This game isn't going to even compete with ESO the only strong point of Wildstar is its combat everything si is the same ol same ol and i already know of Lots of people who think its looks to cartoony.
My problem (and I've said this before) is that the fans are insane and rabid and the developers are apparently okay with it.

Regardless of the myriad users on this very website that are constantly asking for something not casual. And in no way are they completely relying on "diehard core-gamers." All the livestreams represent the mechanics to be pretty easy to learn but relatively challenging to master.
And my time on the beta forums, I never saw any "insane and rabid" fans. A few of them were overzealous, sure, but every MMO has that group of people. Every single one.

I don't know how it looks like SWTOR to people. SWTOR was like, human, green human, blue human, etc. This looks like Ratchet and Clank to me and nothing like SWTOR. You guys apparently need to play video games outside of MMOs.
Reading you...I feel it is a re-skin of my all time favorite MMO, City of Heroes/Villains.
Fine tuning the best (look, tiny rules changes, setting, story) is definitedly a good idea...the powers will definitedly be quite differents, the balancing is a new game, and the key roles are all subject to their vision. Let's just hope they won't be changing the rules all the time as they usually do. Once the bone is in the dog mouth, you don't get it back.
Of course the look, the storyline and many other aspects have nothing to do with the original game, but the great diversity of character customisation will definitedly be a major asset even to players who doesn't care much about it.

Well who do you think is paying the bills on this site? LIterally every single article on the feed is about Wildstar, or a preview from Wildstar. This website is notorious for praising garbage. SWTOR got 9s and 10s from every staff writer except one, who then got fired for giving it a low score.
I don't expect anything new or interesting to come from people who made WoW.
Correction: Danny got let go because he was posting his articles across other sites and forums, before they were published here. If we really cared about his score, the article in question would be gone.
As to why this many articles: it's a major embargo drop. We do this for all big games that let us go nuts on coverage.
As for "paying the bills": it looks to me like Perfect World is today, judging by the site skin. But I really wouldn't know, because the only people who do anything with ads are the site owners. Editorial and Community just do our own thing, though you may not believe it.
With respect, when the only story across the board is one MMO (something I've never come across here in many years) it is quite difficult to assume the articles posted about WildStar are anything other than being foisted. When TSW was covered, there was scant detail on the downside, just OTT articles on how great it was, and now we have this.
Originally posted by Rayshe I'm waiting for all the people bitching about sub to realize that you can pay the sub with ingame currency.
That's a good thing? Anytime a game revolves it's game mechanics around grinding for ingame currency, there's usually a bad result. I'd prefer game mechanics to revolve around fun play, community building, competition, challenges, etc.
I don't understand all the hate about the cartoonish graphics. For goodness sakes, it's a game! It's not unlike most of the other PC games I have played and enjoyed over the last 20 years.
Maybe ESO will deliver Skyrim-like graphics but I kind of doubt it. Graphics is not an MMO's strong point. And if you are one of those longing for EQ1/EQ2 "realistic" graphics, well, I hope no MMO decides to go down that path because those are some ugly games.
So you are choosing 10+ yr old games for your comparison? Ok, I'll take AoC realistic over Wow cartoony. I don't understand why people have to hate on people hating on cartoony grx. It's opinion. They don't like it. For some reason people that like those grx seem defensive about it. Mostly when i see people post they like cartoon gfx nobody bothers to post an attack on them, but say EQN or WS is not for you because of gfx and your opinion is devalued. This is one of those things that's not really arguable, it's opinion.
I think a lot of ppl will be surprised on this game, and in a positive way, the combat in this game looks much more exciting then TESO , the character development looks well done as well, and player housing and other great features. I agree compared to other MMO's this one has great potential.
Originally posted by udon Has MMORPG every had anything bad to say about a game prelaunch? I don't even think it's about advertising dollars as much as buying into the hype. We saw these same articles for SWTOR, TSW, STO, Neverwinter, etc. etc.
I tend to agree with you on that one but keep in mind this is "mmorpg.com" so they have a vested interest in the hype and even the success of MMO's IMO. Still kind of annoying.
One of the lines that really got me was at the start of the article,
"After getting a taste of what Wildstar has to offer, no joke—I believe it's shaping up to become one of my all-time favorite MMOs."
Really? You created a character and barely scratched the surface of noobie-land and it's already your all-time favorite MMO? By your own admission you haven't seen the meat of the game so how could it be an all-time anything?
Not trying to hate on the game as I'm mildly interested in it myself but it wouldn't hurt to tone down the hyperbole a notch to give articles a hint of authenticity instead of the reek of marketing hype.
As for the graphics question I have to sort of agree that the cartoony and exaggerated graphics are very similar to WoW and it's not my favorite. Not to say this is a "wow clone" because I hate that term but the art style similarities seems pretty undeniable. That wouldn't be a deal breaker though if the rest of the game is good. I had the same complaint when WoW released and was able to overlook it because I enjoyed the game. Personally, I like the art style of LOTRO (at the time) and ESO (presently) better.
Originally posted by Sephiroso Originally posted by NitthOriginally posted by azurreiOriginally posted by RaysheIn 3 hours of posting, bitching about the sub still havent realized that if they actually play the game the game will pay for itself.
Except that is not completely true. It "costs" you a lot of your time to "play the game for free" by earning gold and buying gametime. Sure, if "actually playing the game" involves a significant amount of time, week in and week out, you probably will be able to play for free. However, most people likely will not be able to play casually or occasionally like you could a B2P or F2P title and expect to be able to play for free. There IS a difference, even if people don't want to believe it and hype the possibility of playing for free. That, and the fact someone has to pay. if there is no obtainable credd on the market your SoL.the underlined would never be an issue. its never an issue in GW2, its never an issue in Eve. So why even bring it up as a point?
Notice how i said obtainable, If price of credd is driven up to the point where the player cannot afford it (by the lack of sellers) then people are forced to sub.

Actually, it looks straight up like the Boarding Party flashpoint.
Indeed it does not look like SWTOR, more like the EQNext pics or any other cartoon look MMO. SWTOR's graphics are quite mediocre, but definitely not cartoony.
I have very sharp eye so I noticed something on youtube/twitch videos.
Based on those observations from youtube/twitch, chances are high, that when we start playing the game someday we will notice that character responsiveness/movement/collision in the game are really bad.
Our player character will be very likely to soapslide a ton - it will probably slide and fall of the edges of surfaces, it may slide downhill on sloped surfaces; collision and especialy "jump collision" with the game world will be weird at best.
Can anyone that is in the beta comment on this? Responsiveness is a pretty big deal for me. The lag this poster is seeing could easily be from recording/streaming footage while playing. Regardless, I would appreciate a heads up.
You can trust me No one with beta will comment 'cos they may lose it :P

To each his own, dude, but you sure you like MMOs at all? Just asking
One might of course argue (although it would not be true) that WS IS WoW in a way, just as the dudes over at Carbine (at least quite a bunch of them) created a major part of WoW in Vanilla/TBC days.
You are right in one point: WoW was and is for MMOs what the Lord of the Rings was to Fantasy Literature, both a blessing and a curse. you may love it or hate it (and there is very little inbetween, or you may love AND hate it as the same time, as it was once my favourite pastime and now is just not my game anymore), but you must admit that it is the one most influential force in MMO history and will be so for a long, long time to come, if just because of its tremendous success, and that every game in this genre will always have to deal with the big W. Even the games who try to be completely different are doing so on purpose, because they don't want to be like WoW. I guess WoW is always in the backs of the minds of all MMO developer. No exception. They want to copy it, do better, or do different. All of them. And all of them dream of the big success of Blizzards big baby. I give you that. This said, all this has not much to do with WS, though, more than with any other MMO, except that part of the developers are the same.
