Its gonna be funny once Trion beta for AA starts and people get to see the depth and the sheer immersion of this game first hand - none of these complaints will even matter to them anymore.
Can't wait for that to happen.
I don't think there is a game on the market currently that has a more immersive open world, nothing comes close that I've played yet. I thought Vanguard was amazing, heh wait til you see AA.
Meanwhile I encourage folks to play on Korean servers - if nothing else just run around and enjoy the beautiful vistas and landscapes.
Couldn't agree more! Nothing else even comes close to AA immersion levels, truly a world you live in and WANT to explore.
I also look forward to these petty concerns being obliterated once these players actually experience it.
I personally hate that kind of stuff in MMOs. Unfortunately, I believe every single cash shop MMO Should offer those things. Why? Because there are a bunch of casuals who drool for that stuff and buy it like crazy. In a recent major MMO launch, you saw people running around in sunglasses everywhere you looked and then all of the boxing gloves showed up.
I would always choose a game that didn't have such things over one that did. But then again I would always choose a sub based over a cash shop based and you tend to find all of this stuff when there is a cash shop around.
People like cute, quirky, and cool when they play cash shop. Zynga released information a long time ago of an experiment they did. They made a normal looking cow that gave high milk production and they made a pink one that produced less milk in Farmville (where the goal is to make as much as possible). They sold them for the same price. The pink cow massively outsold the normal cow with better stats because it was cute. People find Hawaiian Shirts cute and quirky in a medieval setting, so crap like that will always show up when a cash shop is around if the company wants to make money, and all companies want to make money.
If it was LOTRO or a hypothetical Witcher MMO I would hate this kind of stuff but I don't know anything about the lore the ArcheAge world is based on and at present have no reason to care much. If they try to present the illusion that it's totally medieval but everybody is driving sports cars it could get pretty stupid but if it's something you see the odd time, I'd say let people have their fun.
well, that's one of the reasons Koreans will NEVER make a good MMO; they can't present a consistent world theme. It's as if they deliberately ridicule everything, despite all the hard effort put into the graphics etc...

NEVER is a pretty long time. I would not say that about any nation or people.
There are probably some games that maintain "consistency" in their world theme, but this is also subjective. Consider Aion, Cabal, Lineage 1 or 2, Blade and Soul, etc. What is consistent?
However, I would agree that AA is not consistent to me.
well, perhaps never is slightly exaggerated, i'll admit that. However in all Korean games i've encountered, there's always something 'not quite right' in the theme they are referring to- usually the medieval one; it might be a race that's more manga-related, or how the characters move, the sounds they make, etc.
I'm going to be following this game a little more closely for the sheer uniqueness factor. Archage before this news really reminded me of UO and now they've added this should be very entertaining to see how this pans out post launch.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

Makes me wonder why Koreans don't just do dystopic/sci-fi mmo instead?
If they do that then people will have no qualms about any of these bikini and cars stuff breaking immersion.
It's certainly not what I expected, but in a way it looks fun.

Been playing quite a few eastern MMO's, mostly because I'm interested in their gaming systems - while western devs usually take the same old path, the eastern devs at least try to innovate. The thing is, a lot of them bring this crap: sports cars, beach costumes etc. I remember Atlantica Online, where I was solving quests involving aztec civilization, talking to aztec kings and such, while my character was riding a tank (yes, a tank) and wearing bikinis. It's common for the games coming from that area.
Welcome Everyone! ... TO THE HUNGER GAMES! Lol...just kidding, but seriously I'm excited for the next movie!
The point of this thread, is really just to show you the awesome trailer made by a guild in archeage. In my eyes, players destroy Immersion, but can also create immersion. Such as creating guilds, and taking territory, having things run by the players, for the players. and true in archeage we may have sports cars, and hawaii and superman shirts, but we also have Lord of the rings, Game of thrones, Hunger games, Player made content! - Legions of armies formed, to either rule the seas, or the lands. Guilds claiming territory, while waving lannister flags, or even underwear flags if you will.
Archeage is a game to look forward too, with the most epic roleplaying we may ever see. It depends on the houses that represent. Imagine representing a certain trading company, or perhaps those douche lannisters that always pay their debts.
Here is a link to a fan made guild trailer, which shows off the level of epicness you can really get in this game. Below is a trailer of a guild in archeage called "The Black Storm Legion!" Comment by Crusader - //This is a guild, making a video that showcases their conquering of the new content in the game. Inadvertently it shows how awesome ArcheAge is!//
The below is a picture which id label as an immersion killer, including hawaii shirts, and sports cars, to coca cola vending machines. it is a slight immersion-murderer, maybe developers are plotting to ruin the game, which we each have set our gaze upon, and it goes even beyond that. Players themselves are allowed to upload images as textures to customize the house that they own. But if you can look past the players uploading pictures of adult related images to customize a house they created. Then you get the link above and think as you should, players are both the reason why this game can be amazing, and can also be why the game is less than stellar. That trailer shows off, the true epic feeling that you can get in this game.
...Themeparks and sandboxes and starbucks? - OH MY!
Where do you stand with archeage, are you looking forward to it? or did the hawaii shirts/sports cars/anime-soft porn house textures/images ruin it for you?//
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page, it's really been a long time since iv made a thread! //Almost 2-years!!!//
lol. this just prevented me from purchasing the game.
Same here. I had high hopes for this game too.
Who comes up with these retarded ideas anyway?

Who comes up with these ideas? The players of AA!
It is called creative freedom in a sandbox game. If you can't handle it, then there are countless themeparks out there for you.
If this is all it takes for some players to pass on such a feature rich MMO, I am guessing these same players will be the one's screaming to turn AA into a familiar themepark. If it's not familiar, it must be bad irregardless if they have tried it for themselves or not.
well, that's one of the reasons Koreans will NEVER make a good MMO; they can't present a consistent world theme. It's as if they deliberately ridicule everything, despite all the hard effort put into the graphics etc...
This is one of the main problems for players who have not seen the full real world and rely on stereotypes by grouping a set of people as a result. If a fictional game, developed by a different people is non-patable, then one should not play that game. If it is offensive that another group makes a game different than the type of games one is used to in the mainstream, then it is better not to play that game. In its essential, labeling a set of people projects the mmo players from America to appear much biased, culturally bigoted and unacceptable of other groups of people. Considering that NA colleges are the ones who have supposed a larger rate of diversity this type of ignorance is much disgusting. It is one of the OTHER reasons why diversity is lacking in video-games and the other why the region-lock barriers in video-games continue. I hope for one day the region-lock barriers are broken and no matter where a player is in the world, they can play the game entertainment of their choice with other players across the globe who enjoy the game as well. FF:Reborn is a perfect example of this, where both JP and NA EU players have the option of playing side by side or on their own servers.
Koreans can make excellent games just like anyone else. Though more notably they are the ones who mostly use the most out of the Unreal Graphics engine 3 and are known to use the most up-to-date software in development of video-games. This is in due to Korea's high-tech savvyness in the country. As with other Asian-literature are also very good at storytelling and do not shy away from mature subjects that are practically avoided or unheard in the still Cormstock inherited paranoia from the west.
When playing a game, the whole point of a mmo is an rpg. It is an Online Role-Playing Game. This particular MMO has themes of a sandbox, which is different from most generic themepark mmos. Thus the reason for the hawaiin shirts is to give a little more spin, play-time and fun for users. These are considered optional relaxing commodities and do not take away from the overall main-themes of storyline or course of the actual game. In all they are for the purpose of fun and goofing off for players. Claims of immersion breaking is belief a sandbox must be set in solid stone. Much as a themepark which most mmos are.
If and when it really comes down to what is fun i would agree that immature players will be around to put porn and such garbage on their homes, just to be killed over and over again by camping pks. So it does not bother me that much, when they claim total freedom they really mean total freedom. If something that is there that displeases you you can really ruin their game experience.
It sounds a little unsettling sure, but their will be a honor system that will hopefully come into play once everything goes into full swing. Just as it has in games like the old Ultima Online. Sure they did not have race cars and such, but they include ninja and robots which also caused the collapse of the game.
What I am really looking for is playability, I want to be a Pirate, I want to steal, lie, be thrown into prison, be a mercenary for hire, etc.
I have always enjoyed being a bad girl, playing nice, will seeing stupidity change my point of view as how I play?
Player created content works if people weren't such idiots. I do not want to surround myself with idiocy. I play games to surround myself with the vision of the developer not some kid going through puberty, or some random demented person trying to gross everyone out. Or just some person with no artistic talent all putting amateur hour items in where I have no choice but to see them.
Sure I know gamers and I know how much inapropriate shit they will create with this new feature. Watermelons and genetals will be every where and this isn't even the worst thing They can add hentai anime crap so yeah it sucks

No, it will just make me a bigger bitch.
Asian mmos are like this why are people acting all brand new?
Besides I care more about the virtual world aspects which western devs have shown us they don't really care about anymore.
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
