Now that the wraps are off the NDA and WildStar coverage, we have even more goodness for our readers in today's column. Find out why heading to Nexus is a great idea before leaving your thoughts in the comments.
What about the lure of Lore? At first glance, WildStar’s storytelling is all about the factional conflict. But there’s another thread that we discover before even landing planetside – involving the Eldan, Nexus, and much more. While it initially feels like a sideshow, I have a feeling that it might grow to become the main tale.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
It is important to note that NDA is still in effect for the average player:

The NDA is still in place for #WildStar! Some fansites/press & streamers have been given permission to post level 1-15 content.

Still not feeling it. From the videos it still looks like the typical DaoC/WoW clone with a few extra features. I cannot bring myself to ever play another clone again, they cannot hold me long enough because once the "new" novelty wears off, its quitting time.
The genre needs an enema to purge itself of the clones that's binding it up.

They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is." ~Raph Koster

You can always go back to poorly supported f2p model mmos that end up costing 10x that much for the same features, content, etc.
Actually, no. F2P costing 10x is a myth. Sure one can spend that much if they want a lot of goodies but the avg F2P model is really cheap and cheaper than a P2P. However, the quality sacrifice is evident on the avg F2P MMO.
Binny was more pointing out that paying retail plus sub does get expensive and old when every MMO pretty much dies off after a few months. I for one find Wildstar intriguing but I am not going to be there at launch day. I'll wait a few months and see the reception and see if it is the same ol' same ol' or if it actually does deliver in the eyes of the consumer.
This article has solidified that I will be subbing to this game for quite a while. I already planned on playing at launch, but up till now I have not known much about the lore other then from videos and this let me know that the game world takes itself more seriously then I thought. I was slightly worried it would be like Tera with races that just mean absolutely nothing.. but it sounds like there is more to it then that.
Thanks, can I get a launch date? :P
I spent some time today looking over the Wildstar website and I gotta say the guy doing the class dev-talk video is really great, makes you laugh and sparks an interest in all the classes. Good work on the marketing angle.
Well, I mean, they really don't exactly mean anything. There are no racials or w/e.
Favorite MMO: Vanilla WoW
Currently playing: GW2, EVE
Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?
Look on their website at their business model. It's a bit different. The $59.99 comes with 30 days free. You don't need to pay a monthly sub, you can but you can also play with in game currency to buy CREDD to pay the sub. It's actually a p2p (play to pay) model or a p2p (pay to play) depended on which way you like it.
I guess everyone who has followed the market in recent years knows that the game is bound to go F2P and Carbine/NCSoft may know that as well.
But instead of going F2P right away, companies rather exploit the subscription market for a year+ (to rake in some development costs) and then roll F2P after -because they can. And as long as the customer plays along, why shoudnt they.
Wildstar and ESO aren't any different.

If you want to enjoy the content offered in a f2p, 10x is NOT a myth at all it is a fact. Sure you can play for free for a while, but to get even close to to upper levels the item shop purchasing starts in earnest. That is just about any f2p that does not offer fremium. To add to that the support in most f2p games is atrocious.
And Azureal does not know what he is talking about..
As long as Carbine doesn't take preorders including beta, the game will not be close to release.
Their exec producer said it wasn't ready for them and that they needed enough players input from beta to think about release. They don't seem to be in a hurry and they don't want to do lile most mmos, release a half-assed product.
So far, nothing above lvl 37 has been tested, no end game or anything. They need to test all that and more, before thinking about release. And that's a good thing.
I'd rather have them take their time and release an enjoyable MMO than anything else.
This is exactly their aim too, as they want player retention and not a flash fire mmo where u sell milions of copies quickly then everyone leaves a couple months later (say, GW2, TOR...).
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!
That's exactly how it seems to me, too. I find it very difficult to excited about any new triple-A MMORPG these days. They just keep turning out to be WoW with a new skin.
According to the MMO community, every new MMO is just WoW with a new skin. In every thread someone always says it. It doesn't matter what the game is or how it plays, ESO, Wildstar, they are just "WoW with a new skin".
I'm starting to wonder if WoW is the only MMO these people have played so it's the only thing they have to compare other MMOs to, to be honest.
