So when does World Of Starcraft come out?

Fact: 2 most popular MMO Genres are Fantasy and Sci-Fi
Fact: World of Warcraft did extremely well for itself (money wise, im not here to debate the game)
Fact: MMO companies like making more money.

Through my brilliant skills of logical thinking, these facts would lead me to beieve that Blizzard just might start development on a Starcraft MMO.

What do you think? Would they dare make a starcraft MMO? Would it be good? Could it repeat the success of WoW?

Only time will tell...

They will never make a starcraft mmo named Worlds of Starcraft cause the name is too lame, and the abbreviation is deragatory to the Game "Wuss". They will probably do something galactic like Starcraft Universe, but it has to have a cool abbreviation so thats probably not going to be it either.

They dont release game sequels too close together. With StarCraft: Ghost getting closer to release, we wont see another StarCraft sequel for quite some time. With WoW's popularity gaining, and having already surpassed 5 million subscribers with an estimated 10 million subscribers on the horizon, they're going to continue bringing in the profits until they determine that a new MMORPG will be needed to continue income.

Never going to happen. They would be "shooting themself in the foot". They can't have much more customers than they have right now. If they release a Starcraft mmo they would have to operate 2 mmo's with the same playerbase. Blizzard isn't a mmo company so this would put their other projects on the backbone, something noone wants. World of Warcraft is and will be their only mmo.

How long has Starcraft been out with only one supplement while Diablo is on 2 with a supplement and warcraft is on 3 with a supplement? Also, Warcraft has an extensive PNP RPG and diablo had a goodly number of books for both 1 and 2 for AD&D while Starcraft had 1 failed attempt using Alternity for the rules. Starcraft has never been tops on Blizzards to do list and the Ghost game is Blizzard trying another style of game. Starcraft will always be Blizzards red headed step child and while there is a large fan base it will never be Blizzards main focus. This is sad because the market could use a good sci fi MMORPG and, if done well, Starcraft would make a great world (s) to play in.

Pfffft please. Blizzard hasn't had a hit game since, what, Warcraft 3? back from 2000 or something. Give me a break, with the kind of success that WoW has had on the market, through advertising, and making their game so incredibly easy my mother can play the game with ease and probably level out in 2 months. But that is besides the point, with this kind of cash flow coming in from a MMO style game which is their FIRST one. It only makes sense that they will develop another. Now i'm not saying that it will be starcraft, but Blizzard really only has so much to work with, I mean if you look at it seriously, they can make Diablo into an MMO, or Starcraft.  Choices choices, But still, Seriously think about it, HUGE SUCCESS they will try to DUPLICATE that success like EVERY OTHER COMPANY IN THE KNOWN CREATION. I mean, look at $OE, EverQuest, good mmo, what do they make? SWG. Then to countless other failures. I smell the same pot of coffee brewing in the blizzard dev teams think tank room. Cause their bosses only will look at the bottom line income, and they will soon neglect their customers even worse than they are now.  With all of that being said, and now out of the way.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

imageWhy They Will Make ANOTHER MMO (in detail)image

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok lets make a long story short, and go into the future lets say 1 year, it is now coming onto 2007, WoW's Imperial Sized army of Newb Subscribers have dwindled from 8million subscribers to 3 million subscribers, a pretty big loss, servers have been merged, and all that other hoopla a game does to hide low number counts. They release yet ANOTHER expansion, probably 2nd expansion if they do things right. And most of the vet players love it, but there a few who cancel due to them either getting bored of the game, or lack of content. And guess what. While all this is happening, outside of Blizzard's walls. On the inside it sounds allot like !#%#@$%^@! ! ! $!# %% $@#@#% !# $! You @$%$%@# $%; I TAUGHT YOU ALL I KNEW AND YOU STILL KNOW @#$%$#@ NOTHING!

So after the dev team craps their pants, and it is firmly settled on their boxers, they will devise a plan, a plan to save their jobs, and that plan will be. To make another game. (They can go 5 Routes.)

    1. Make WoW2

    2.Make Diablo MMO

    3.Make Starcraft MMO

    4. Loose their jobs.

    5. Completely overhaul the game WoW, and pray for it to not turn out like the NGE for SWG.

So with them selecting one from above, god willing it isn't the 1st or 4th one..

They will have come out with a second game, and yes, I understand that they are releasing starcraft ghost but don't count starcraft out. Cause ghost is singleplayer, battle net game. NOT an MMO.

With all the other companies producing new MMO's i mean seriously look at the Games in Development list, its almost as long as the games out now. Thats just a hint on the way gaming has changed and we the older vets, know whats gonna happen. All i can say is Saturated Market. soon enough everyone, including your aunt Ruthe and  Uncle Paul will be playing MMO's. Lets face it, 8/10 people who own a decent computer or want to own a decent computer, are gamers. With that many people up and coming and new ones being brought in everyday by their friends, EVERYONE is going to want to play a game. And the COMPANIES will PROVIDE them with MORE GAMES.

With all of this being said,

just keep an open mind, and you'll understand one day. That this is how things work. Yes it sucks, and people wish companies would just stick to their guns and improve what they got, but they won't, they have not yet, and will never do so. I'm sorry, but I'm swimming in their poop too.image

    oh, one more thing.

I made a post like this a while ago... I think they should make it, and we probably will see it in the future btut not any time soon

Well I haven't read that long post, so I won't say that what I'm about to say hasn't been said before:

As said before Blizzard is making SC:Ghost, and it will take a while untill they develop a new SC game. If we wait, lets say, 5 years for the next SC game, then, by that time, WoW could still be rocking and they don't want to have 2 MMOs at the same time, it simply isn't a very smart idea to have. After SC:Ghost they will, most probably, make a SC2 as there are many more people wanting it than a "WoS", and if they do make a SC2 they know it will, most probably, be a succes for it being a sequel to one of the best RTS ever.
After all this the conclusion is:
They won't do a "WoS" or they will only do it in a far away future(may I say 10-15 years?)

P.S. Don't forget there have been rumors to a Diablo3 and if those are to be true, that is going to be another delay to a possible "WoS"... Blizz, if I'm not mistaken, only works with 2 games at a time...

A lot of MMORPG's function with 10,000-100,000 subscribers and still make profit.  Wow will never not make profit... right now they're looking at a good billion+ in revenue every year after the initial purchase cost + monthly payments...  then you look at the expansion coming out, and how much they made off the special editions...  you may be moving towards the 2 billion mark.

Not too many GAMES in general have made that much... I wonder if we can get actual numbers in here of other games successes and compair?

  • PhoenixsPhoenixs Member Posts: 2,646

MMO_Munk. Blizzard isn't a mmo company. Untill Wow came they made billions on singleplayer games. Wow is going to be their only mmo. Becaue Another mmo would steal subscribers from Wow. SOE and NCSoft can have many mmo's because they are different and don't target the same users. Blizzard got 10 million fans out there. These fans play all of their games, mostly the new ones. Meaning if there is a WOS they would come from Wow to Wos. Making Blizzard loose money since they then have 2 mmo's to operate, but only one that will make money. Secondly they are a small developer compared to behemonths like SOE and the vast armies of asians in Ncsoft. They would have to go through a huge process within the company itself. Hiring alot of people, wich again would make them loose their quality. They are soon releasing SC: Ghost wich (looking at their record) is going to sell really good for all the consoles. Then they will move on to Diablo III or SC2, maybe even WC4. Starcraft has sold 11 million copies worldwide. SC2 would probably beat the Wow sales by miles. Remember singleplay games have a onetime development cost, mmo's don't.

No, they wont for a looong time.
World of Starcraft would just steal subscribers from WoW. It makes no sense financially. As well, they already got SC:Ghost comming out, that should tide the Starcraft fans over.

well i don't see how a Starcraft mmorpg can be made. what....zerglings have a bunch of weapons and armor? or likr for protoss how diverse can you actually make their guns or their energy blades? how many different armos can you make for the terrain?

    not happening.

They would make a Diablo MMORPG before they even considered a starcraft game like that......

Well we wont see it for a while even if they started developing now. I don't think they will start work on another MMO until WoW has been out for a while and is starting to lose popularity. So it will probably be at least 6 years or so down the road until Blizzard releases another MMO IMO.

Look up the discussion about this that i started a few months ago. In that we discussed in depth how we could implement weapons/classes/pvp/etc with the races in SC

Errr, sorry, sir -- that's wrong.

In a few years (in Blizzard "time") they will create another astoundingly successful game.  This is what successful companies do.

Which, btw, I hope I can play for more than two-three months without becoming bored to tears.

I hope to God they don't.

While the idea if wonderful, but what MMO idea isn't wonderful?  It's when they actually get down to creating it that it becomes god awful.  It goes from this incredible world to this mind numbingly boring game that you can't possibly convince yourself to log onto after 3 months.

It would go from "Man, could you imagine it!?  You could have this incredible battle, hundreds of players fighting!  Space Marines fragging Zergs.  The Protoss swoop in on a vehicle...." to "WTF!?!?  My gun disappeared when I logged off last night!  Jesus Mother *(&^(^@#)(*@#()*&;#$*&^@#*&;^&*^@!%!@(*&;@#)(*@^*!@*&^@!)!*)(*)(*)*($^ beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep."

It'd suck.  It'd ruin our dreams.

Its that kind of thought that would keep the human race from advancing. Blizzard can take a risk. So what some people dont like it. im guessing ur not a fan of WoW. If you dont like it, chances are someone will. Just because you have no faith in Blizzard doesnt mean that the game could and would be great

Way to think about the future there bud. " shut down R&D. What we just made turned a profit. "

Blizzard is about making money. The fact that they know fun games sell themselves
( something companies like SOe hasn't figured out yet ) wont stop them from making anything they think will make money.

Blizzard will wait for another new mmorpg to come out that has new features/game play never before seen in any mmo then copy them and slap the Starcraft label/skins on it.
