personally I want them working on the game, not doing a lot of unnecessary crap to keep posters happy 3 months before release. Jeesh. In three months the game will be released, and either it will be good or it wont. What they did 3 months before release wont matter one iota.
Also I think its pretty ridiculous to post this thread right after the holidays when their office, like most businesses, has been a ghosttown the last couple weeks with lots of folks taking vacation days.
Originally posted by fantasyfreak112 I think the real question is why does anyone want to play a game that is using the ES name as nothing but a cash grab? If the game is nothing like Elder Scrolls, why is it named Elder Scrolls? That is the million dollar question that has many websites predicting this ship is in fact sinking.
I'm guessing they are using the ES name for its lore and Universe. The same way Halo is a FPS, but also had board games, an RTS etc.
You could even relate the same to WoW. Warcraft as you know was an RTS. Then made into an MMO. You wouldn't ask for Warcraft 3 gameplay in WoW?
I suspect once the NDA is lifted, you'll get all kinds of information and discussion from those who were in beta, and a lot more feedback from the ESO developers/community reps.
I hope they lift it soon. No sense waiting until the last month to lift it...
And lo, the doubters and nonbelivers of the goodness of Cheese were laid low, for the deal had been struck, and Sheogorath's plans were set into motion....
Seriously, congratulations. And you were worried...
Anyone able to connect to the Elder Scrolls Online website? It seems down for me... Could this be a revamping of the website and maybe a possibility for more info to be released? Beta invites going out, site unavailable... things seem in motion.

It's not over hyping to talk about it a little 3 months before release, and start advertising etc.
Wildstar was over hyped because it was constantly posted about years before it's release.
You're right in your 1st statement, wrong in the 2nd. I'll agree that they need to up their showing of a game that is less than 3 months from launching. Show actual Beta player actually playing the game in real time; show the PvP sieges that they've been touting about; show an empire being crowned in the mechanic they just proclaimed to be awesome; show something!
As for Wildstar, it's not overhyped in the slightest. They're working with a completely new IP and a completely new studio that has to basically prove themselves (unlike Zenimax, a subsidiary of Bethesda, with Elder Scrolls as a 10+y.o. established IP). Wildstar's developers are also very proud of their game and want to show it off every chance they get. They don't even have a release date announced [yet] and they have already released the NDA for levels 1-15; that's a statement of pride in their product.
So it basically boils down to a fundamental question of whether or not Zenimax is afraid of public lashings that they'd receive from the product? Because if they had a good product, if it was something that they were absolutely 100% proud of, wouldn't they want to show it off?

Lifting the NDA isn't going to do anything positive for this game.
Just 3 or so months to release, no big PR, no regular updates and videos... no preorder nada.
This is starting to spook me off.
It seems like time for a TV commercial or something huh? Since day one they have been down playing though. In the early days after the announcement it seemed like they went out their way to de-hype.

Almost weekly updates and vidoes here at MMORPG.COM another round of beta invited going out even as we speek and your spooked because your not getting enough Hype? Really perhaps you should just wait till the games released. The fact its not pulling a SW:TOR Hype PR media blitz is to me a good thing.

If you made a great game, naturally you would want the whole world to know how awesome it is. There will be videos, live streams, articles and all sorts of marketing to generate interest for preorders and launch. No one will keep a good game under wraps especially with only 3 months to launch.
ESO will be shit.
Oh so you mean it won't be the greatest game ever that SW:TOR is since SW:TOR Hyped the hell out of itself pre-release to get people to subscribe? Your logic is shit hype doesn't make a good game, all the videos articles and live streams in the world can't save a game once its released and players find out the hype = BS.
PR people go to school to learn how to use live steams, videos, and articles to make a Meh game look interesting. Will TESO fail very possibly but it won't be due to the pre-launch hype train
Maybe just maybe ZO is confident enough that they feel their released game will speak for itself or maybe they'd rather put the money towards polishing the game and making sure its ready rather then paying tons for a bullshit media PR hype train?
Every time they release new information the game gets slammed, and rightly so. No I think the reason for the lack of publicity is very simple, they are going to ride the name on launch as hard as they can before the game implodes, similar to SWOTR. If people truly knew what awaited them then they would never touch this disaster.
As such they'll fleece a good many before the train wreck finally falls into a gorge.
Except for the fact your forgetting W:TOR had all those things these Hype lovers are asking for. It had live streams, and videos and weekly updates. Its still turned out to be subpar to most. People trust PZR and advertising just to mush. They forget that the goal of advertising is to sell a product (god or bad) it doesn't have to be very honest or true it just has to be hype. Peoples asking for companies to blow more smoke up their asses is funny
Sorry you must be mistaken the game doesn't exist its vaporware or if it does exist it will be a massive fail because they don't put out any information wasn't that your OP point?
Anyone remember gw2? Where everyone was lining up to talk about how it was the greatest ever, just a bindblowing explosion of unparallelled innovation that would change everything in the gaming industry forever... then it actually released and everyone found out what it was really like... Yeah I'll take no hype over crazy hype any day.
My problem isn't that it has no hype or whatever, it's that they aren't releasing gameplay footage and details about major systems for people that can't get into beta. Even in beta there are major systems (like crafting) that are unplayable.

It doesnt need all the crazy hype that 99% of other games had and failed. It has the name, that alone will bring in mass numbers.

Hmm, I said that my problem had nothing to do with hype. I'm not worried about how many copies it'll sell. I think it'll sell a ton of copies. Overall they just seem WAY more shut down when it comes to disseminating information about the game during the final 3 months (less) than pretty much every other AAA MMORPG that has been released in the last decade.
Anyway, a lot more people seem to be getting into this beta stress test so there will be more word of mouth.

Not just the devs are quiet. Look at the forum posts around here and some ESO posts, including headline articles, get a few posters and often fail to hit page 2. Only threads that seems to get any logevity are the ones where people are pointing out the issues and a discussion ensues.
I agree with the OP.
The lack of any real activity recently, good or bad, just makes me feel that people are just not that interested. You would expect some conversation to be taking place but the almost total silence...odd.
This is what I meant.
I mean, the game is out in 3-4 months. Usually, there are debates, controveries, fanboi vs hater wars... anything. Heck the EQ:N forum is more active and that game is still a long time before release!
How does the saying go... bad press is better than no press?
EQN forums are our fourth most active, actually. ESO is our #1 most active forum.

That's because Zenimax showed us very little.
I am still stuck with the same information I gathered 2 years ago.
Zenimax hasn't really been able to confirm or disprove my skepticism about this game.
It's like they are ashamed of their work and they don't want to showcase any solid informations until the last minute on the main feature of this game for fear of disappointing people.
Also the potential Fanboys like me (and another 3 millions TES fans) are not really sold on this project and actually are the most critics on Zenimax work................. If a developer manage to alienate its core fanbase, that's not a good signal

yay.
Well, I guess this will certainly be my test to see if it is truly worth the price tag.

I have a feeling they are trying to sort out their problems before they turn their focus to advertisement.
Unfortunatley a LARGE majority of their beta players have come forward and said the game is not what we are all hoping for.
Many people had many different complaints, but due to NDA they cant give specifics.
Some even go as far to say they have flat out quit the game all together even before its release.
From a business standpoint, if your beta testers arent even making it thru the beta...you have some work to do.
EQN forums are our fourth most active, actually. ESO is our #1 most active forum.
