Should ESO ignore SONY and Microsoft and only go to STEAM consoles?

fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

I really think ESO should keep this game as a PC exclusive title and put this game only on the STEAM console when it comes out and PS4.   Heres why.

First lets look at Playstation.  They said they have found a way for it to run on PS3, but the fact is it would lock ESO into an outdated platform and end up like FFXI and the plastyation 2, where its limits were holding the game back after 10 years, and after repeated asking of SONY, they would not allow FFXI to give up on PS2 support.   SONY might be trying to LURE ESO into the PS3 so that when its far outdated it can use the same tactics on ESO as it did on FFXI and then make their EQ Next game be better and longer lasting then ESO.

Second lets look at XBOX.  They said at first they refused to have any of their XBOX games to be corss-platformed with other game consoles..  Well seems they are changing their TUNE now, or are they?   Nope.  They want to make people who play ESO have to pay a LIVE GOLD sub on TOP of ESO sub.   ESO has asked them not to force customers to have to have a LIVE GOLD sub for ESO, but they are greedy and want more money.....   I think ESO should force customers to choose another console,  maybe something like....  the new STEAM CONSOLE, which will be by far more supportive of gamers then Microsoft ever could be.

Third STEAM console, would be a great EXCLUSIVE console to have ESO on to give STEAM and its great projects like Workshop and Greenlight which supports gaming, to get a Great Start towards breaking up these Greedy or unsavory practices that hurt customers every time.   Just like the Airline Companies, when you have more competition your plane ticket is LOW.

What do you think, should ESO only be on STEAM console when its release and tell the other consoles to get lost?

Its the way of the future,  as you probably already know that STEAM has games from as low as 99 cents and up.  Imagine a console where you can have access to old games and new and never have to worry about scratched disks ever again....

It would go against the very idea of bastardizing the TES IP to remake DaoC. They HAD to make it around the consoles to be able to sucker, erm I mean tap as many TES fans as possible.

But yeah, I wish MMOs would be either PC only or console only, not both at the same time.

i'm  not really sure that SOE would have anything to do with ESO. i don't think they handle any of the PS4s online services.

Yeah, I had to ponder that "scratched disk" comment for a moment, hasn't happened on anything I've downloaded on my laptop in the past 2 years or so.

Both are owned by SONY.  tomato tomato my friend.  With EQ Next coming up, SOE will have a lot of weight with PS4's internal company directions, which are both owned by the same parent company.

I did update the Original Post to reflect the Parent Company to be fair.

You are correct in this. A year ago you would have been wrong though. Sony is now streamlining their departments to work closer together. Even their music division is now supporting each other, Epic/RCA/Columbia/Sony Records now have many cross-over artists for collaborations to support newer talent. So yeah, you will be seeing more and more of this with Sony's gaming divisions. Not always a bad thing, but has room to be very bad.

Only put it on the Steam machine? You mean only release it for Linux? That's going to work GREAT!

I think you'd be shocked at the number of people who don't actually know it's Linux. I've had to de-hype SOOOO many people who thought they'd be able to play their entire Steam library on a Steam machine. Once these things hit the wild they'll fail fairly quickly, pretty much like Ouya did.

From IGN jan 6.....   14 different steam boxes....   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kssKMZRMS0E

They state they are already up to 65 million.  MInute 3:20 of the video.

Only if they want to sell millions fewer copies of the game.  SteamMachines are a year or more away from being a mainstream console choice.  Valve has long range plans for these things, but the short term is going to be pretty slow adoption by developers.  Once it gets going though, it's going to rock.

Besides, Valve isn't even pushing their own exclusive games.  They aren't going to push another developer to have exclusive games.

This is the biggest  problem from AAA MMO´s being addapted to console format..

The UI gets really limited by the controllers..  With console ports become the standard, i fear the worst..

Sad thing is none want to play MMOs on a console, because withouth keyboard chat there is no community..

If its ps4 and pc on same servers ( like FF ) i m up for it... i can play on my pc when i have raids-pvp-sieges etc, and then play on my ps4 when i just want to explore, farm... yeah that sounds good to me.
  • IkifalesIkifales Member UncommonPosts: 305
I won't play on consoles... any...including a steam machine. And since consoles and PC will not share servers I will ignore there existence. But I want them raking in as much money as possible... therefore... hell no. They need to make it available to as many players as possible.

Why would EA hand Steam a coup like that ? Steam competes with Origin, which is EA's version of Steam. So it'll never happen.

Which decade are you living in? You know most games can be held on console hard drives yeah? If you had ESO on PS4 / Xbox, there's a good chance you can just download the client and store it on your HD, just like you can currently do with DCUO.

    No.

I like the idea of an mmorpg on all platforms, it gives me the consumer options should I wish to use them!

I am working towards in about 3 years time to owning a PC a PS4 and a Valve Box.

  • squalleonahasqualleonaha Member Posts: 211

most exclusive game are getting pay from some company so it wont go on enemies system.

there is no point for ESO not go on other system like ps4,x1 to get more money.

its just like telling them to not getting more money. never gonna happen unless they cant port it on those system.

I'm sure Zenimax will make ESO steam box exclusive as soon as valve and/or their partners pay them a metric shit ton of money to do so,otherwise it makes no financial sense to do so if your already capable of having it be cross platform.
  • srsnoobsrsnoob Member Posts: 44

Steam machine is just a PC using SteamOS which is based on Linux. The market for Linux only based games is incredibly small compared to Windows, Mac and console. It really would not make any sense to do that. Maybe in the future they can port it to Linux, but I doubt it would ever happen. WoW doesn't even have a Linux client.

Btw, you can't just download and play any game on SteamOS. The game has to have a Linux version (unless maybe you use an emulator like Wine). But I think their plan is to allow you to stream any game on Steam to your Steam machine, so in the end you will still be able to play any game from their library no matter if it's Windows or Mac.

The companies purpose is to make money. Ignoring potential income streams does not help achieve the purpose.

Helping Steam out is not the job of Zenimax. If it brings more money to Zenimax, sure. But there is no financial incentive to do so at this time.

Don't be fooled. The purpose is to make money.
