most retarded review of eve online I've ever read.
*Downtime > Not much BUT everyday at 11am GMT which sucks, i wonder why they have to restart the servers everyday really.
I mean that point you made, just ugh. Use your common sense ffs, they need a downtime for server maintenace, and it doesnt usually last longer than an hour (albeit recently they released a major content patch with requires longer server downtime, but not much).
i read the view on the trial, the bad review, and i just want to address the issues this guy has...there is a reason the game is shattering records, from 12k to 20k (which just happened in game today) anyways, there is a reason its an MMORPG and not a SPRPG, you did all the solo shit, which is just for petty cash and not actual gameplay,
if there was a QUEUE in skills then nobody would need to login, you could just queue all your skills and come back to the game a year later, moron...
im sorry but this game is genious, and has elements onther games can only dream about...i feel sorry for you

Great reviews, I might have to try this game, I never hear anything but good stuff about it. Also I people keep saying how mature the player base is which after WoW is really refreshing.
Its the best MMORG that I've played. I like the game and yeah its dificult to keep playing it the first 2 months but then your char is developed enough to go do nice things.
So I think its one of the best MMORG around but hey that is my opinion
If Devs would make traveling faster, looting faster, docking faster, some way of grinding, etc, Eve will become a WoW clone. I and a lot of people would quit directly. I like it being slower, it makes the game more real.
If you want more action, stand some months, join a good corp, and if you want, youll be on a good corp, defending a place on deep space, pirating somewhere, minning in dangerous places while your mates must defend you, or whatever you want. I for example, right now am on hostile space, with a corp mate, both flying Covert Ops ship. Since an alliance came to our space, we will go at theirs. We have already destroyed an AS, and more will come.
If you dont like how slow its, or cant stand the time untill you get the best from the game, then this game is not for you.
*Weapons, you will have to study endless hours before you can finally say that your ship is good enough for all type of ranges and damage types in battles. Confusing and only good for people without life.
You just convinced me to try out this game :P The more complex, the more difficult to understand, the richer the system is, the more I like a game.
It just enhances immersion feeling to me. That is the main thing I did not like about the NGE in SWG. I can understand they want to do a faster combat system based partially on aiming with mouse (makes sense to me in a non fantasy game where you use swords but blasters) but they also did considerably reduce the complexity of the game in all its aspects. I miss the feeling I had in SWG when I first loged in... feeling like it would take me ages to understand everything.
Interface is complex but if you take your time and go through the tutorial it's relativly easy. Graphics and Sound are very nice. Ship design is very interesting.
Gameplay Missions are relativly interesting. So far I've run into 2 kinds, Delivery and Combat types. For those doing delivery missions I highly suggest grabbing a quick cheap Frigate. From the ones I've seen they cost under 30k and are twice as fast as most other ships. Wanna do some combat well jump in the ole Cruiser grab smack some pirates around. I do agree looting is a PITA, I have no idea why tractor beams require so much time to get. IT really doesnt make any sense. As far as combat goes, As long as you view it from a Commander point of view instead of a fighter pilot it's enjoyable. Personally I would like to have a choice. OR even the ability to fly drones while you send commands to your mother ship. Maybe throw in a first person aspect to combat when boarding large ships.
Mining
Border line .... Grab a big ship goto some rocks hook up the mining laser and walk away. Come back alittle later, fly to the dock reprocess. Rinse and Repeat.. Yes you could goto a area thats dangerous... I suppose that would mix it up a bit. I'm going to hold off from making a decision as I don't know if there is more to it then what I've seen to mining so far.
Things I would love to see.
Space monsters ? Haven't seen any.
Planets ??? Nothing but scenery at this point as far as I can tell. Remeber the game Star Command 3 I think it was ??? You could actually take a shuttle down to a planet and collect samples and gather alien creatures. That was a blast.
Does anyone know if they have plans on making colonized planets? Where you could land and explore.
Skill training takes the grind out of things thats for sure. For those power gamers out there is going to drive them nuts, there is no way that a new player can catch up to someone thats been playing for 4-5 months longer then they have. Personally I don't care. And on a long term scale I dont think it's that big a deal. Taking a buddy along more then compensates for lacking skills. Not to mention alot of it has to do with your ship.
Ships
This is the addicting part, Bigger ..tougher..faster. Better guns new electronic toys.. etc.
Exploring space
Yeah the Idea is cool, the ole Star Trek theme action. But what are you going to find? Pretty looking planets? New looking Nebulas? Correct me if I'm wrong but thats it?
On a whole at 3 days played, roughly 6 hours ish I have 2 ships one for deliveries and a Destroyer for combat missions. I've done alot of missions. Seems to make money alot faster then mining. I'm still have a good time learning new tricks.
I'd rate the game a 7 out of 10. This could change in the next 11 days depending on if I find some new cools things I havent come across yet.
Feedback is welcome, any tips on cool things to try please let me know.
Learn science skills. Get archogeology and other probing abilities.
You can then explore space for hidden complexes and space anomolies. These are like mini dungeans that yeild tasty candy. Not many people choose to explore, but it is viable.
The closest thing to colonizing a plant is moon mining. For that you need to build a station in a low sec system around a moon. Such colonies are the basis of the tech 2 market.
The Tractor Beam is deceptive. While Engineering 5 and Science 5 may seem steep, keep in mind that those are two skills are going to *need* regardless of other factors. Science less so, but the current way to earn Tech 2 blue prints requires science 5 and is utterly passive. I.E Just like skill training, you go to an R&D agent, and just constantly do research for them while flying around.
Also, captains don't leave their pods unless the pod gets blown up. You are a captin, you are in a pod, sorry, no FPS action here. Drones might as well be space monsters.
On last bit - Don't claim this game is for people with no life. Especially after complaining that you can't grind for experiance. If you don't see the logical fallacy of stating both in the same paragraph don't play EvE.
I'd say thats an accurate review for 13 days.. However, its not an accurate review. After 13 days you've seen so little. Agent missions are a very very minor part of the game. Traveling is faster when you have bookmarks. Theres a reason the game is rated so high. Theres a reason the game continues to grow. It's grown from 12k concurrent users to 22k in a year. No this game isnt for everyone but that doesnt mean its not well done.

Not sure you were refering to me about the grinding? OR it what I said came out wrong. I hate grinding, I like the fact I can train while not online. One last comment I would like to make is that Eve is Awesome for people that DO have a life. Choosing a Delivery mission is great, you can set destination, walk away and actually accomplish somthing while you are on auto pilot.

Err... be VERY careful doing that. Some of the delivery missions out there will fly you through .1 to .4 space and you could wind up very dead going afk while flying. If you're going to go afk make sure your route is all .5 and up or you may come back to your pod... or worse... your clone

Well just gave EVE a honest shot, and I can tell you this game isnt for me at all! When I play a game i like to actually play, ya it was only 14 days, but I just couldnt get into the game at all, I tried so hard to want to like. but honestly it just bored me to death..deliver this...travel here...! And yeah the travel time in EVE...wow...talk about wanting to smash my face with a book. In anycase I am happy that somepeople find this game great, but my honest opinion is I would rather watch grass grow or paint dry than watch my ship jump to 8 diffrent systems just to deliver something. Oh and combat...its not combat...its like watching someone else do everything...click fire once click orbit sit back...bleh not for me at I would rather be the one shooting and flying...would be nice to use my joystick, personally i think SWG did a much better job in JTL than EVE...but i must say the graphics in EVE are splended and i do like that you can train while not online, and there are a few other minor things that are great about the game...but i wont be putting my $ down to play.
2 rules that i feel should make the EVE experience a little better for new players are as follows;
1. When you join a small corp (or start 1) make sure it is in an aliance with a large corp.(The reason will be obvious after a mid size or larger corp declares war on you) .....
2. If your corp is asked to join a large aliance for (Protection, well know mafia tactics) pay the fee whether its 15%,25%,35% of your mining PAY IT your corp mates may gripe but its better than the alternative (reaches for hemroid creme).
Comments
Well done to EVE for breaking 20,000 concurrent users pity a small percent are macro miners, some are on trial, most are afk and the others asleep.
If you like numbers and sleep this game will suit you just fine.
