Easier said than done sometimes but it's a good message and something I need to aspire to.

Haha, now that is thinking outside of the box.
    or... maybe "inside the box"...

Great post OP. It's good to see that not every player is wad :)

Welcome to the boards, by the way :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

    Fully agreed.

I respect everyone, even on here. :)

But I do not respect everyone's views, and I do not feel I should tip toe round others so as not to upset them. The problem is people mistake their views for themselves. You are not your opinions, criticism of some ideas you hold is not criticism of you, the person.

You find this particularly in teenagers who think their opinion on a game is as quintessential to them as their music and everything else they form an opinion on. It is just an opinion, an idea, it is not you, us, or them.

id take it a step further and say , respect anyone you come across there are a lot of idiots out there that think just cause their in the internet their actions have no consequences .

I think the O.P has it right ... And my 2 cents is doesn't matter who you are your actions defined your reality.

    Gamers are people too.

I have been friends with a mmo player for a week or two now, talking to him every now and then in game. I then get a message from his mom saying thank you for being nice to my son, he is only 11 years old.

One of the reasons I don't talk to anyone in MMOs in the fact that, at my age, I definitely DO NOT want to find out I am talking to kids.  In the social climate we have these days, any man talking to a kid online - even unknowingly - risks being tarred with the "internet predator" label.  I play safe and limit my ingame chat to polite inconsequentials and keep conversations as brief as possible.

If there was a "Like" button on this thing I would hit it.  Good stuff.  Good advice for life actually.

It's not any better for women, either.

Remember going to the store one day and encountering a kid who was riding the bus for the lack of anything to do (a sign of an abandoned kid left to his devices). His hair was nappy, skin messed up and looked like he didn't eat in days. He was overly friendly at that (look at how life/experience changes you when seeing that is considered dangerous in this day and age), so I took him into the grocery store and got him a meal at the deli and tried to warn him about being safe. But that is as about far as I could go, as adults with kids these days are considered predators (he was a Black kid). If I called DFACS over it, I would be called in to be grilled over it, too. All because of real predators good people can't help those truly in need. And my dad was a career policeman. -_-

Growing up it was a whole different world. My neighbor was the town's mayor (dad was the police chief), and I would go over to her house to help her (dad had me working at 4 years-old sweeping and emptying baskets at the city jail -- yeah, every bit like you saw on Andy Griffith --  for a king's ransom of half dollar [loved those coins]), and she would host little luncheons I'd never forget. Today, unless you have a team of witnesses, don't even open the door for a kid even if you're the mayor and the kid's the daughter of the police chief. :(

Agreed! I live by this and it's my mantra whenever I'm playing with others.

Treat others as you want to be treated.

What are you talking about?  Yeah if you started asking to meetup and have some kind of adult activity involved maybe then you might be there.  If you are that paranoid that you may talk to a kid, I can not imagine what your social skills are around children if you think you have to tip toe around the internet.

It's not paranoia, it's fact. Online gamers aren't the most honest people, and they will lie in a heartbeat, too.

Don't take chances. Talk in public and have plenty of witnesses.

If you are on my team in War Thunder it matters not who you are, what age bracket, what sex, what religion, what whatever, if you are a good person and do not shoot me to steal a kill you have my respect and support, if you shoot me your blood makes just as good tribute to Khorne as any of the enemy's o.o BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Talk with plenty of witnesses, guild general chat room stuff. A 30 year-old male talking with a 11 year-old girl online raises a lot of red flags, be it from parents to most anyone else. Just how it is.
