Bow animations look horrible!

How do you guys like the bow animations?

I love archers pretty much in any game after the typical assassin-type. Archery was superior fun and effective in Skyrim as we have all seen it.

But what are these animations in TESO? They look rather underwhelming to say the least. The feeling to it is also rather meager, it doesnt really feel like pulling the string and shooting an arrow has real impact to it. Sure they added a little screen-shake when you stealth crit an opponent but that does not reduce the clunky feel to the bow.

Aside from all other weapons, in my opinion the Bow needs to be addressed as soon as possible and it's animation needs to be fixed.

Animations dont bother me. After a couple of days of gameplay i barely notice animations any more. Gameplay is much more important, since that is more of a long term factor for me.

For me... Of all MMOs, it was worst ranger I ever played. Switch to melee, less headache and more fun.

Animations are fine. Horrible that they can' t shoot beyond 27 meters.

I didn't like the animation or the sound at first but after playing through a couple betas I don't even notice it anymore.

So, what exactly would prefer they look like?  I mean they could make us do a little jig while we pull the string back.

The only issue I had with a bow is that the draw takes too long.  That is a simple adjustment to make, but I got used to it.

I would agree with the OP....completely.

Haven't tried bow much (I play melee), so cannot say if this is still the case or not...

I played archer as well and it was my feeling also.  It took almost as long to draw as invisibility lasts, so i could never tell if i got the shot off in time.  (you can't see how much you've hit for, so it's pretty much guesswork if you got off a sneak attack or not).

99.9 % of the time my main character is an archer. .TODAY given how gimp archers are TODAY. I would play a sorc.

Hopefully that will improve before launch..It seems to me that whoever the dev was that created a bow user...never played the class in other games. Anemic...underpowered.....gimp....lacking a range advantage come to mind as descriptors.

I do think the AVA portion of the game will be a key factor in its survival.

Hell, animations in "cartoony" WoW (I only talk about animations here), 10 years old, look better. And since comparing with GW2 seems to be popular, just have a look at that game to see how to do proper (bow and other) combat animations.

I  would have to agree with the above on this. The game's animations are badly done.  I have been in the last three beta's, and had to force myself to play them, just never could get past the horrible animations and multiple other issues.

Try to pull and hold the arrow, go into sneak mode and then walk.

The animation is so horrible that you want to shoot yourself with that arrow.

    It is a ES game...

ALL animations are.. well... crap. I have yet to see any ES game that has animations that does not look to be from 1997.  Heck they make TSW at launch look like a Pixar movie.

Not sure if the Bow animations look all that much worse the the rest...

This have been a good conversation

I agree. I dont like any of the animations really... but melee is a bit tolerable. Zenimax this is 2014 for FFS. Not acceptable.

What nonsense. Minecraft has its own (16 bit) graphic style why even compare the two? who in their right mind would go in minecraft expecting amazing animations?

You know what is worse than the haters? people who gobble up anything thrown their way in MMOS these days and are intolerant to criticism.

Just one beta ago melee was extremely underwhelming.  People gave feedback regarding it and voila!  We have the melee we have now (which is pretty great and better than I ever thought they'd get it in an MMO.  Actually feels solid.)

With some feedback and time, I've no doubt Zenimax could do the same (maybe they already plan to?) with archery.

Now that NDA Is lifted, can anyone tell me for sure if you're able to sneak attack with bow using the Nightblade invisibility (2.5 seconds)?

Every time i tried, it seems i let the shot off just as it expired and without being able to tell how much it hits or whether it's a crit, i couldn't tell if it actually worked or it ended up being a regular attack.

    Anyone have more experience?

This, or aim at any part of the body.

Heck you can aim a foot away from the target- you will still hit them square in the chest. Softlocking just feels way wrong in this game, archery is the worst offender.

I think auto-aim fits into mass pvp. Try to aim at a fast moving crowd of 50-100 players who are fighting each other, if the bow would have manual aim it would be quiete weak. People who did play the beta can say how physical dmg will be in higher levels, at lower levels magic damage or class skills were a lot higher than weapon dmg.

By the way the game offers aswell dodging, you can dodge ahead, left and right and backwards if you have the stamina for it.

I actually modded my bow animations in Skyrim.  Well, I didn't mod them myself, but I installed a mod to change them, as they were quite horrible.

A lot of animations in ESO are bad.  It seems like combat animations are pretty solid, but movement animations are a complete different story.  The characters feel weightless.

A sneak attack is without invisibility, you are of course invisible to the enemy if you sneak in a certain range but the skill invisibility makes you invisible in any range.  You just sneak and if you dont get detected in a certain range your sneak attack will be successfull with your weapon dmg, not class skill or weapon skill as far i remember.

I cant remember how an invisible attack with a bow did compare to a sneak attack. I will test this in the next beta.

My undersanding that a sneak attack should be the same whether using regular sneak or invisibily.    I'm just looking for confirmation if 2.5 seconds is long enough to actually get the bow attack off, since it takes a long time.

I dont know if it is the same, at least i cant remember since I played a Nightblade class not in the last beta but in the beta before. When I did a sneak attack i just used sneak.

There are two different types of bow attacks, pressing the mouse button only for a short moment or holding it for longer. The last option does of course more damage.

Yeah, its a good question if the time of a more powerful bow attack is short enough to fit into the time zone of invisibility. I cant say it. Just from the feel i think yes.
