It will fair well in the long run better than games like ESO and EQN as Wildstar unlike those games is being made for the long term with an actual endgame and tested endgame. But in terms of box sales I do not think WS will do as well. TESO and EQN are box sale games where they are designed to take as much money upfront from players before they quit the game. Teso and EQN are short term games like GW2,AoC and Tor which were not made or designed for the long run.WS is just the opposite with a large part of their development dedicated to long term endgame gameplay.
They are completely different games and genres. ESO is a MMOBS (box sale) game while WS is a traditional long term MMO game.
EQN is a free to play....NOT a box sale. Furthermore, it's a sandbox ....which is constantly evolving and has no endgame.

EQN will be taking its money up front in pre-order bonuses just like Landmark. The game will be designed like other short term games to cash in as much as possible before people quit. In fact it is already cashing in as they are charging for Landmark access which is essentially a beta along with a marketing tool for EQN. They call Landmark a separate game so they can charge double but all it is a development tool to make EQN. They may not call it a box sale for EQN but they are still charging and taking peoples money before playing. It is the same thing taking as much money up front before people quit EQN.

It's not a WoW clone. For one thing it's sci-fi and not fantasy. ESO is the wow clown. It has the elves, dwarves, orcs, etc and brings nothing new or even uncommon to the table. It's just another generic fantasy where you can go 1000 years in the past or future and the only thing that will change is that the castles will turn into ruins. You'd think in a century they'd develop better anti-dragon technology. Or develop any technology for that matter.
ESO is the WoW clone because it uses a traditional fantasy setting?
Well, enjoy Wildstar, it's a great game; it's very similar to WoW, which is also a great game that I enjoyed for many years.

One could argue that WildStar is a cash grab just the same. Selling the game and then charging a sub fee...
To me they are all cash grabs. Devs gotta eat to....which means making money...
As much as I like ESO I don't think it has really broad appeal and the same goes for Wildstar. I think they will both do fine. If you like WoW wrapped in sc-fi then you will probably enjoy WS. If you like a game that has elements of a single player game and MMO, then you will mostly likely enjoy ESO. If your a ES purist you probably won't like it if you go in expecting it to be Skyrim 2.0.
I'm rolling with ESO. WS lasted about an hour on my computer before I removed it. It's just not what I enjoy.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Pretty sure it will suck, its made by the same nerds that made GW2.. that has a heap of balance problems as far as I am concerned.
Actually you are very wrong with this statement. Both games are published by NCSoft but not made by them. GW2 was developed by ArenaNet and Wildstar is being developed by Carbine. When it comes down to it Carbine is a much more reputable company than both ArenaNet and NCSoft (This of coarse being a matter of popular opinion). Carbine has a great track record and I think people who are interested should give it a chance without even thinking about GW2, since the only thing the two games have in common is the fact they are taking money from the same company.
Edit: Before people quote me, I realize this will be carbines first game and when I say they are more reputable, I say this based completely off of the development team which has a colorful and highly successful past when you put all of their achievements with other companies together.

I would agree and disagree with you. Yes they are all cash grabs. But wildstar's focus unlike box sale game or F2P games is on long term subs. They have devoted 50& of their dev resources the last year to endgame. Compare that to ToR which did not even put endgame into beta until two weeks before release. Basically an untested endgame because its focus was box sales not long term. The same here can be said for ESO its a box sale game not along term game with an endgame. EQN seems to be even worse with no trinity, no levels, no endgame. Just a promise people everything and take as much as they will give and run home with the money type of game. I can't tell you WS will not be a cash grab or even it will be a good game but least its focus is long term and its plan is long term. They are choosing to make content for players who will play long term rather than to make flashy content to convince someone to buy the game based on pretty low level level play.
Now will they succeed? Its a good question. They are trying to do quite a lot. Probably the most ambitious release in terms of content since Vanguard. So many systems form housing, to paths, to challenges, Adventures, action combat, LAS,Warplots, evolving raids along with the hope of fully fleshed out and polished endgame. My guess is they are doing too much. My other guess is the LAS and limited number of abilities per class will limit player choices, class flexibility and combat options. This will make it very hard to make a difficult and complex pve game. One cannot simply have a reflex game. That will always end up to easy. There needs to be some depth to combat in addition to reflex as character point choices, rotations, preparation, class knowledge and thinking during fights will always require much more skill than reflexes. So yes I have my doubts. But I am much more secure and positive about WS 'long term future than ESO, EQN or any of the other short term games made extract as much money from the ignorant masses at release before those masses get bored and quit.

While I agree with you that GW2 was a terrible game Wildstar is not being made by the people that made GW2. Wildstar is being made by the people who made the original WoW. In 2005 many of the core developers who made WoW left Blizzard because of the Blizzard's shifting of focus to make the game more accessible. These Devs formed Carbine and began work on a game that would be more true to the game they designed at Blizzard than the game that WoW was evolving into. Eventually this game became Wildstar.

WildStar's been in development for almost a decade? I didn't know that.
I believe that both games will ultimately fail. MMO players are burnt out on the basic concept of grinding quests to level up and get more gear so you can grind the next thing to get more gear etc. The only thing vaguely interesting in either game is the endgame PvP of ESO. But I have little faith in this since Warhammer and GW2 also claimed to have great PvP endgame. And not every, or even most, MMO players want an endless endgame PvP zergfest.
Everybody I know who plays or played MMOs is waiting for some new development, some original concept or some kind of exciting innovation. But all we get is the same old MMO structure we've been getting for ten years now.
Players might dabble in either ESO or Wildstar for a couple of months. But then they will either drift away from MMOs entirely or just go back to the existing game where they already have high level characters and a familiar environment.
My wife, for example, has a full slate of max level characters of every class in WoW. She is open to the idea of moving to a new game as long as it feels new and interesting. But she is not interested in moving to another MMO that basically just copies the structure and mechanics of WoW and a dozen other similar MMOs we've played in the past.
"Pretty sure it will suck, its made by the same nerds that made GW2.. that has a heap of balance problems as far as I am concerned."
Sorry, you have no idea what your talking about. GW2 and WildStar are made by two separate companies. Only the publisher is same. The games have different philosophies in their presentations.
"I could be 100% wrong here, but Wildstar reminds me too much of wow, at that means FOTM classes, cookie cutter builds and gear>skill."
Your wrong , research the game some more before you make a blanket statement.
Man this game is great, so much potential. Loving the beta so far but such an incredible shame about the lack of voice acting. Questing feels like I am reading a book with interactive pictures, only the story is boring as fuck.
"Once uppon a time there was a little spaceman-thingy, and he went to gather 10 cogs. This was because the other bland, lifeless, personality-void spaceman-thingy said it was very very important."

You know, except for the voice acting. Granted not all quest text is voiced, but then no quest text is over tweet length (140 character). Hyperbole is fun
i will not vote simply because every person has a different opinion and preference on the OP's type of question. With that said, after playing both betas i will say that to me personally, the most important part of leveling a character in PvE (the questing) was waaaaaaay more enjoyable and had zero grind in Teso. Wildstar's boring ! quest hub hunt made me mad.....
Most of my time in mmos is spent questing, which also includes fighting mobs. So.... even if the rest of the game is great (which IS in WS), the combat was meh but good enough to accept it BUT the questing itself is not good at all. Im tired of that old system that doesnt change, that old questing system that is completely irrelevant to the game. It is just there to give me experience points. Unacceptable a this point in time. If you as a dev cant come up with a better way to do questing, dont do questing. Its better to not have a system than to have a bad one.

i've tested TESO for 2 beta weekends, sure it was somewhat entertaining but nothing really wowed me so far.
i have yet to test out wildstar, but i'm keeping my hopes up, to try it.
