Before people could bad mouth the game without having to offer anything in way of proof of what they say. "The game is terrible" is not breaking any NDA; however, now that the NDA is lifted, these people are being called out. Now people can say why they LIKE the game other than just nebulous feelings. The negative press now is at a lack of defense because their arguments no longer have any clout...and the few people who are trying to defend their pessimistic views are being called out for not having played beyond level 3 or so...
That's why I believe the majority of press since the NDA has lifted has been more positive than negative...
NDA drop + 2nd impressions from media + way more people got to play with keys easily obtainable instead of just assuming things = yes way more positive vibes for the game now.
I don't know about that.
What I do know is that, personally, the ESO beta was one of the biggest MMO let downs I have ever experienced. Horizons was number one for me. I thought ESO was horrible. Hopefully enough people will find it enjoyable enough to succeed. I will be passing on it completely, though.
^^This.
The combo of the media 2nd impressions (mostly far more positive than the first round) + the NDA drop was a huge boost.
If ZOS manage to pull-off some kind of miraculous moves in jazzing-up the starter experience, the next beta weekend could be golden.
Played: EQ1 (10 Years), Guild Wars, Rift, TERA
Tried: EQ2, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and countless others...

I was an absolute hater until NDA dropped.
Now, just about everyone's saying: "Level 3-10 was shit unless you were Dominion. Special nod to the Daggerfall starting zone. The rest of the game is great." and then went on to tell me a lot of things I wanted to hear.
Being that I was a Breton Sorcerer who found Stros M’Kai to be the most inane, boring zone I've ever seen... yeah, I had a very negative impression of the game after Beta Weekend.
Now, I'm slowly but surely coming around. At least they didn't frontload the content with polish and neglect the end game like most WoW Clones of the last 10 years.
Care to shed some light on what you disliked so much about it? Did you give it a chance past level 10 and actually experience anything past the starting zone?
The Beta so far was great, people who liked DAoC will like the RvR in TESO i loved it
First i didnt like the game but after Level 10 it gets better and better.
I hope the will have success cause i like games with a monthly fee no P2W or pay to be quicker in here.
most of the negative aspects seem to be about the lower level stuff, my own opinion as well. hearing ppl say that higher level content is much, mcuh better, is encouraging
AD definitely had the better of the three zones...
The desert one was plain boring, and the other did not have any good centralized crafting areas to my tastes...
I think there's a slight shift to more positive posts when ti comes to the game itself yes...a lot of it boosted by new and low post accounts rather than regular posters.I don't think it;s shifted the negativity of Zenimax's marketing decisions though.
Also this is normal the closer we get to launch,I expect similar boost in positive Wildstar posts when it gets close to it's release.
I personally think ESO is a perfectly acceptable MMO not amazing but competent and large in scale compared to recent MMOs..Wildstar will probably be the same. The few issues I have with the actual gameplay are the animations and invisible walls and non-jumpable low fwalls otherwise if it wasn't for the whole selling of faction lock bypass I'd probably pick it up and give it a chance.
1) yes, it definitely is more positive and people are actually discussing things with constructive criticism instead of ranting. This was an obvious symptom of the starter areas and not understanding what the game offers beyond the first 8 levels or so. Now people are becoming educated with regard to how everything opens up, is PVE explorer friendly, is a better PVP solution then GW2, offers abundant PVE in the PVP zone, understands more about how 50+ and 50++ works, and realize that there are group options including PVP, PVE in the PVP, public and instanced dungeons, random caves to explore, NPCs with things to do that don't have quest markers, world bosses, etc.
2) REGARDLESS, my attitude is still the same. Whether positive or negative (reviewers or us), I don't care much about what others think as long as they are not purposely spreading misinformation about the game.
I've seen enough to know this game is going to keep me for at least 3-6 months, especially since I level like a turtle because I am one of the few who really does care about the journey. i want to read the quests, read the lore, craft, chat with guildies, take in some sights, etc...not to mention I work hard and I have other side interests like Tennis, the gym, watching TV/Movies and actually having a social life lol. I don't want to feel as if I'm playing an arcade game.
Just Dev's Please: Add RPG elements like LOTRO has, make the Starter Areas Optional for those who don't like it, Tier the PVP between levels 1-49 to make it more newbie friendly, fix the bow animations and feel, and make the anchors or the world just a little bit more dynamic feeling....and most of all..don't break your 4-6 weeks content update promise.
Anyway, can't wait to jump in 5 days early :-)
There Is Always Hope!
Curious about "a lot of problems"...can you be more specific? I am by no means a fanbois of the game, but I AM an Elder Scrolls and MMO junkie. Beyond the QUEST ISSUES (which were stated by one of the Devs during beta to have been mostly resolved in the retail version) and the "stuck in converstaion" bug, I found the game to be actually quite stable and enjoyable. Particularly compared to a lot of the other MMO betas I've been privy to.
Just curious as all, not meaning to derail the post or give grief to people's opinions...
So many says lvl 1-10 was boring as hell then all of the sudden after lvl 10 the game got a lot better, I would like to know what changed besides that you can PvP?
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
Bingo.
In the first beta I participated in I only got to level 5 and things really were on the fence for me, but once future betas I was able to get to level 10, it opened up considerably.
As you said, the most obvious thing is PVP; however, by level 10 you should have at least one skill from each major class branch, as well as at least one morphed skill, and if you did your skills right, have one ultimate. Having a full bar of skills definitely made me feel more "powerful" and worth playing the character. I had more options as I could change out my skills to be a stealthy rogue or go more assassination. Even siphoning had a fair chance of testing skills. The options begin to open up for your character that the lower levels only hint at.
Once I hit level 12 and was able to go into the first dungeon things were even more fun, and 12-15 flew by because I was having so much fun not only just playing but crafting and exploring the world at learge.
More skill's available, stronger grasp on the combat mechanics, more need to pay attention in combat due to more/tougher mobs, access to the instanced dungeons at level 12.
Also (and I think this might be the largest reason tbh) the level 8-15 "zone" is far more open and explorable and with far more things to discover of the beaten track than the content before hand
How much of "your let down" is actually because of "your expectations"?

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
I must be weird because I actually like it from level 1.
Maybe it had to do with having realistic expectations and having researched the shit out of the game at places like the Tamriel Foundry and Eldersouls for months before my first beta weekend.
I'm not saying it doesn't get better once you're in your first full-sized zone - it does - but the starter island (I went AD first) had lots of things that kept me interested and amused: chests to lock-pick, provisioning recipes to cook for outstanding 30 minute buffs to health, stamina or magika, Sky Shards to find, quests to do, skill line descriptions to read and digest, new combat mechanics to get used to... I wasn't bored for a second.
But back to the OP...
This new positive mood in this forum is essentially what I've been predicting would happen after the NDA drop and after more got into larger beta events for months.
There has been a lot of theoretical negativity here based on the perceived consequence of design decisions and how those might work or not... now we all know. Not a lot of need to theorize. Instead we're just sharing real experiences of the things we like and what we don't like.
The discussion's got meat to chew on now.

yes but i will take i a step further. remember the vibe here after the game was first announced?
that's why you don't jump to conclusions about a game you have not played yet.
unless there is something so obvious that you know you wont like no matter what, like cheesy cartoony graphics for example.
No response. I guess point made ;P
i dont know about other, but as for me, i already moved on.
there is very little or no feel of ES game in ESO. gl on u guys.
