I find his reviews both here and ESO whether he likes them or not are very juvenile and unprofessional and his little brat posse behind him only makes it worse. Why anyone cares what he thinks is beyond me. Who cares about his angry army lol. It's like I listen to that crap for ESO and then I read an in depth preview from A beta tester from Tamriel Foundry and it's like comparing someone with with a Masters Degree to someone who has only a High School Diploma.
The game is 10 years out of date, fetch this, kill his, hit this with this, felt like they were trying to teach me how an MMO works I think the wildstar devs should have assumed everyone knows how an MMO works and just get to the good stuff. Sadly I never got to the good stuff (assuming there was some) cus I got so bored within the first half hour I never went back.
I also agree with Angry joe about GW2, you made a character in GW2 and were to put right into the middle of a fight and was fighting a boss within 10 minutes, after 10 minutes in wild star I was hit some peons with a lighting stick. ZZZzzzZZZzzzzzz.......

This exact thing happened to me. I was crazily excited for the game with all the contents they have promised and it's still there in the game, no doubt in that; But i just can't get myself to play it every time i launch it. The max i have played it at a stretch is probably 2 hours. I am also a permanent tester not a weekend one. Comparing that to ESO, i only played it for a weekend but i played a full 12 hours continuously before my sleep forced me to stop. It sucks because i really like the WIldstar Devs who are very open but i just can't get into it.
I can't "get into it" because it's beta. I never want to spend 12 hours of my day on a character that will ultimately be wiped and end up re-doing the whole thing. I take beta as a general "get a sense for what the game feels and plays like" and try not to go too deep. As long as all of the elements are there, I don't need to play a character to max level in a beta to know if I am going to want to repeat the same damn process over when it launches in a few months.
I'm not interested in Wildstar, but if this guy did the same bad job he did for ESO beta, I suggest you stick with your own opinion or wait for a better reviewer to express an opinion.
I guess Joe got under some people's skin. Oddly enough, Joe is probably one of the few youtube people who calls out publishers in the gaming industry ( as a whole, not just MMORPGs) on their BS. Regarding this video though, he obviously doesn't like his first several hours of the game. Big whoop?
Remember guys, it's his impressions, not a review, and these are his current opinions. Don't take it as if he's talking smack about your mom.
Sure he is bashing the tutorial, he didn't like the first area in the world because he doesn't like that kind of MMO gaming, and I don't blame him for it. However, he points out all things that carbine did to make it a really good MMO, and that's why he still would want to play the game.
Its endgame that makes or breaks an MMO.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.
That was a damming impressions video - "Worse than World of Warcraft." (!!!)
I'm buying Kickstarter games these days (Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous etc.) - the big publishing houses are playing things too safe and are just copying games.
I don't know about AngryJoe. I feel like since Youtube changed it's content-ID system he pretty much became a softy. I mean c'mon, his name is ANGRYJoe but since the last months it feels more like MEDIOCREJoe.
I watch him because he rightfully gets pissed and not because he spits out half-baked opinions that he does not seem to stand for anyway.
Watch the video. You can't tell me by the look of his eyes that he is really meaning what he's saying.
Winning a discussion is not what it's about. If you could pass insight to someone or learn something from it in return - noone can really loose, can they?

after watching the video I can confidently say that he was fully baked.

Without having played the beta or watching the review or anything I have to say that from your description of things, Wildstar's starting area sounds way more appealing to me. In my opinion you are supposed to start as a weak rookie when you take your first steps in an MMORPG, and you definitely are not supposed to be fighting bosses straight away.
I've noticed a trend lately on this site of people linking these Angry Joe videos.
I watched one once, got maybe 2 or 3 mins in, then noticed that this idiot was going to talk for another 30 mins. He hadn't even started the review yet...
AngryJoe is more an entertainer than a reviewer, once you start seeing him as an entertainer you'll warm to him, he does put a lot of time and effort into his big reviews, but his lets-plays, streaming and live commentary has always been weak.
He did not "review" Wildstar he just gave his first impressions and I agree with his first impressions Widlstar assumed we were dumb and had never played an MMO before, if the mechanics were new fair enough but wildstar uses mechanics that have been used time and time again, do we realy need a tutorial on how to hit mobs with a stick? cus they gave us one.
Limited response to his comments on the early levels being boring.
Limited response to him admitting he didnt like the art style but that this was a personal preference and should be taken that way.
Limited response to him crediting Carbine for trying new things.
Limited response to him saying that his impressions were based on the early levels and that the game may have some appealing features later on such as 40 man raids, warplots and housing etc.
Limited response to the fact it was a first impression not a full review.
Ive tried the game and its not for me. Its my personal opinion and I shared the same view about the early levels. I may watch it for a while and see how things turn out.
Nope, in the main Joe must have been high and you dont like his mate.
A lot of the critcisms in this thread make him look like Roger Ebert.
EDIT
Threads being what they are some people are acknowledging these points after I typed this. The initial criticisms are still pretty much the above.
I respect Joe's integrity, (though I get he can come of as amateur in his casual style at times) and don't mind that non mmo players can't really review mmos properly, and in this case I agree with him on Wildstar (based on released footage). Innovation is great, but not if it takes slogging through stale mmo mechanics that give you WoW flashbacks to get to. Thought is takes a lot of flak I think ESO's beginning looks far better, but how they compare as a whole, who knows.
I'm starting to get a little suspicious of these videos, I knew this was going to be posted. Screams advertising to me, but yes I think he will post another one giving a different opinion soon, he likes to maximise his view count on each game which means making a video haters will enjoy and then another the fans will like. The amount of money he makes is quite substantial playing the mmo crowd.
I'm kind of confused why "Angry Joe" reviewing an mmo beta is supposed to matter to us? Not like he is something special or a person with a lot of experience about these kinds of games (yes I know his girlfriend is but how is that the same thing), he isn't even an MMO player at all. He reviews normal games, he isn't an mmo player of any length of time nor does he really know much about them.
I think the only mmo that I read he played was guild wars 2 and he left that before the month was up anyway (which made a mockery of his anti p2p ranting).
Just had to post about this. You DO realize that not everyone knows how MMORPGs play, right? They have to assume that people do not know. If I were just starting out MMORPGs on Wildstar, I would be estatic to have some basic ideas on gameplay rather than being hurled in head-first into the middle of a boss fight straight away. And as another poster pointed out, it is fine to be just one-of-the-crowd too and not be some superhero that gets to beat up dragons in the starting area or something on that order. And in WoW (you like WoW right?), you quite literally get to bonk peons on the head with a club in the orc starting area, or are you a case of "Me not that kind of orc"?
Getting to Angry Joe, I am not watching this video because the past couple of reviews of his I watched were not very good. The TESO PvE one was so lousy I did not bother to watch the second one on PvP. He bashed the game about its subscription fee but practically said in the same sentence that the game had tons of content so would be really great as an F2P, which to me is really a weird conclusion to come to since great content is one of the major reasons I am ok with paying a subscription for a game (if it lasts for more than one month that is). The only thing worthwhile about his review was showing some of the actual gameplay, which was limited. I took home very little from that review other than that the PvE sucked based off of first impressions of the beta.
Now I am no fan at all of TESO as I have mentioned in other threads, but I only take reviews on such limited game experience (and on a beta to boot) with a grain of salt. To be honest, I acquired a much more informed idea of what the beta is like from listening to other gamers here on this site and watching their video footage than the terrible Angry Joe review.

Is it just me or is this Joe guy a douche?
Yeah i will judge it myself thanks

Actually I found his preview extremely positive.

Why do mmo devs make early lvls so damned dull?
Im not suprised, Joe always was more of a realistic medival setting guy, from Total rome, shogun to elder scrolls.
He was never realy into "cartoony" kind of games.
That's too kind.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
