Hi all,
As this upcoming closed beta, we get to keep our characters. Is this one step closer to us keeping our characters at launch too? What do you all know or have heard? And don't tell me all closed beta characters get wiped for every game cuz its not true hehe.
Best regards,

release/launch = wipe
prolly no wipe until then
I can almost 100% assure you these Beta weekend character will be wiped before launch. The early access days are when you will be able to get a jump on everyone else.
...
This means again a particular person here talked BULLSH*T about the game being completely launched in NA and we in EU have to adjust our Launcher to NA...
Just once and for all: If you DO NOT KNOW A THING PRECISE, shut your brain and keep it for yourself. If you are so eager to share information, then share UNBIASED information that is ACTUALLY correct.
Thank you.
1st. i dont believe they allow random testers to reserve character names.
2nd.they are selling headstarts
so 110% sure that they will wipe, which is a good thing.
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.
**On the radar: http://www.cyberpunk.net/ **
WTF are you even on ABOUT...........? We get to keep all of our characters throughout whole development period.
There will be COMPLETE wipe right before early access/launch.
I think there's been ONE subscription MMO launch in the history of MMO's that did NOT wipe all characters before launch.
In the world of F2P games, it's common practice to not wipe characters at launch, because their Cash Shops are usually 100% operational from the first day of their "open beta" phase.
Maybe I'm misreading (english is not my native language and sometimes I don't get the complete meaning of a statement) but in order to play THIS beta weekend, we have all to switch to NA megaserver.
If you go to ESO facebook page there is an official statement and the istructions to switch server.
This question gets asked every time... What game as ever allowed one to keep their beta characters unless it was some random F2P game with a faux "open beta"?
"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"
~Lord George Gordon Byron
I know, its like Groundhog Day in here.
No you read it correctly, so we do have?
But how does this make sense if we can keep our 'old characters' ? I am sure I have lastly played on the International (EU) server, twice now. How can I / we then keep our characters when we play on the NA server?
Hugely confused. Do they then swap all characters on one server or.. what?
I can only guess they disabled the EU megaserver and exported the characters' database to NA server.
Or maybe we EU people will have to reroll. I'll check better the facebook page to see if there are more info.
Edit: as fas as I was able to gather info, we EU will still have our old characters even if we'll be testing NA megasrever.
Yeah but that can be said of most threads here when a game is coming near launch and has betas(weekends). Those of us who have been here a long time have seen all these discussions before.Different Game Same BS.
Expect a wipe for early access. Otherwise there would be no point in offering that as a preorder perk, and noone would buy them.
Exactly ^^^ Would make no sense to have an "early access", especially since, according to ESO's own email, they are inviting MILLIONS to the beta this weekend...
Please name one game that kept its beta characters into launch.
And no, beta is not the same as early access.
Let me help the two of you out. They are going to have a NA and EU megaserver. You are able to play your character on either of them on the same account. The Server you created your account on will be the server your Account is bound to, but you can switch to NA and EU severs as often as you like. Does that make more sense now?
I create my account on NA, but I can play on EU or NA megaserver. You can create your account on EU, but you can play on EU or NA megaservers.
Neverwinter? Not sure tho..
Neverwinter wiped right before open beta, and they had their early access period for subscribers 5 days before their "open beta" began. It was basically just an excuse to launch, and not have people get upset over possible launch issues (since they could say, "It's still in beta!") Everything like the cash shop was fully functional, and they were happily charging people.
Once a game starts charging you, they're no longer in beta.
Another game that charged you during "open beta". Once it charges you, it's no longer in beta, regardless of what they try to claim. Pretty much every Korean F2P MMO out there has done this upon being localized in the US, because they know if they "officially launched" with their game in the buggy state it's in during their "open beta", people would find the quality laughable.
Age of Wushu was the same way. They claimed it was open beta, but had their entire shop/subscription service set up. Yet a bundle of quests didn't work and half the text was still being localized. Those are just money grabs. And I can't recall any of them actually having a real launch. Take Neverwinter, for instance, for which their 'launch date' was merely their first content update.
If you're paying for your mmo, it's not in beta. Likewise, if you're able to access all of the content, it's not in beta. ESO is level locked/zone locked in its betas thus far (aside from their Friends and Family test server.) Diablo 3 basically had a free trial for its beta that limited you to level 15. Those are betas.

No MMO ever has wiped since it started actually charging people subscription fees/cash shop stuff. They all, however, wiped before that (early access being game dependent, since some count it as subscription time and others don't.) There has not, thus far, been a single outlier assuming those conditions are fulfilled.
