Housing would be nice, but not a deal breaker. Many games added it after launch. its not a standard, just a bonus thing for players.
Housing usually amounts to nothing but instanced place to store stuff anyways. Like I said not a dela breaker at launch.
Im more into the mount and the way you can level him up. Give him better "stats". Maybe ESO will make housing fun for me. Just one more thing to look forward too.
Housing is something you implement once you have all your ducks in a row, not at launch.
Wildstar would be far better off if they used their development time shoring up some of the games many deficiencies instead of implementing a housing system.
ESO does feel like the odd one out in this regard, just feels a bit lazy not to include player housing.
People keep saying ESO has innovated the genre but I can't think of one thing that it has innovated, just lots of things it doesn't have....
They have not even included a /duel command ffs....
Must be nice, being able to make up an argument just so you can say it isn't true. I'm sure for folks not paying attention, it might even fool them.
That being said, if they already had to leave out something much more iconic like the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood, I'm not exactly surprised 'housing' is left on the table until after those get put into the game. How many years has it take SWTOR to get housing? (You can say it, go on.) Or WoW? Or RIFT?
And you're asking for the first six months?
Yeah...no.
If anything it's Wildstar being the odd one out. Kudos to them.
It would be nice, most definitely. I have no doubt it's coming eventually. Just after the game goes through enough updates and content patches to come into its own.
Excuse me? I am not making anything up. There are many, many posts on these very forums stating that ESO has innovated the genre and gives gamers content and functionality that they have been wanting for years.
Thats a fact. You can look the posts up for yourself.
Where did I even type the words "six months" in my post? Oh thats right, I didn't. You made that up so you could argue against it.....brilliant.
And whether you like it or not, it is irrelevant how long it took any game to get housing in. What is relevant is that ESO is going up against all of those titles as they stand today, not as they stood when they launched.
When compared against it's peers TODAY, ESO has many gaps in terms of features. Like not even something as simple as a /duel command....
I wonder if they'll charge money for it because we already know there will be two expansions in 2014, comparable to Rise of the Hutt Cartel and Galactic Starfighter respectively. Housing seems like a neat individual thing you could sell separately.

Originally posted by Satarious Never got this fascination with player housing. It's like getting excited over a Dollhouse. If anything, ESO should break the mold of your typical MMO and put housing in Cyrodiil. Put them at the risk of being pillaged and burned to the ground.
Actually, I think player-owned or guild-owned structures in a PVP zone would be an awesome idea. Not instead of "dollhouses", but in addition to. That could make for a great expansion, player/guild owned territories attached to Cyrodiil, complete with buildable structures...
"I think player-owned or guild-owned structures in a PVP zone would be an awesome idea."
ZOS has far bigger things to fix then adding player housing, like perfecting the character movement/animations they just look so horrible, also the combat system needs an overhaul so people dont have to rely on their stupid soft aimbot and its so clunky, same goes for the UI, i mean it has to be the worse UI ever made for a game. Fix those things then maybe consider adding player housing which we all know is just a waste of time and ingame currency.
I don't want any sort of instanced housing with no game play value other than decorating them. I find that an extremely boring and lonely pursuit.
I'd much rather they focused on Guild houses/villages with player shops as a perk for the highest guild ranks... even better if they were in PVP zones.

Though housing is normally not too big of a deal for me in MMOs, for something with "Elder Scrolls" in the title it's something I would expect. Like others have said, it's part of what makes Elder Scrolls games set apart from other games. In Elder Scrolls games you could just walk into just about any NPC's home, kill them, then claim the house as your own, or buy one, or be rewarded one based on your actions. I would rather them take out features seen in just about every other MMO such as fishing, and put in things seen in just about every Elder Scrolls game such as housing.
With the recent announcement of player housing coming to SWTOR, ESO is starting to look like the "odd one out" when it comes to ingame housing:
Rift has it.
FFXIV has it.
Wildstar has it.
WoW will have it soon (garrisons).
SWTOR will have it soon.
Come on ZOS, throw us a bone !
I'm not expecting it at launch of course, but knowing it is definitely planned for the first 6 months post-launch would be awesome news !
Housing that contains player vendors, naturally...
The only game on your list that has/had housing at release is wildstar. It took swtor and rift over 2 years to add it and wow is 10 years old and still doesn't have it. ESO has not even released yet give them a chance.

I think it'll be part of the 2.8 update. They did say that was one of their biggest updates.

There is nothing wrong with the animations, they are on par with all other mmo's on the market if not better.

If you are going to cite SWTOR, then you have to give Zenimax 2 years and 3 months of time...because that's how long Bioware took to do it for SWTOR. Fair is fair.
And yes, I love player housing and would like to see it in. I disagree with those who say housing is something you add after launch as MANY games have been launched with housing. I'm not going to hold it against TESO or Zenimax though because to expect more from a themepark game, especially in reference to housing, at launch even, is only setting yourself up for disappointment. They (themepark MMO deveopers) just don't believe in it until a year or two later when numbers dwindle.

I was about to state this but keenber beat me to it...
Just because it's not at launch doesn't mean it will never happen...and housing is typically considered an "endgame" luxury...so when you look at 42k gold mounts, just imagine what a house will cost...
Got to love this community. If they put in things that other games have then their game is a clone. But if they don't put something in that other games have it's "OMG WHY DON'T YOU HAVE THIS!!!!!!"
Though not really "iconic" for the TES franchise, housing is a staple and I would be surprised if they do not ultimately add it.
I probably won't make much use out of it but do agree that it's a great system for those who genuinely enjoy it. As such, I hope they do add it at some point so that I can casually enjoy it, so that others can immerse themselves in it... and, who knows, perhaps they implement it in such a way that I too will find great enjoyment in it.

Give it time.
But ESO is directly competing with all of those other MMORPGs as they stand today. Not as they stood when they launched.
Why is this such a difficult concept to understand? It doesn't matter a jot if any of those games took 10 years to add player housing, what matters is they all have it or are about to add it when ESO launches.
That is the bar that ESO will be judged against, it will not be judged against how things were 3 or 5 or 10 years ago.
From that perspective, ESO is missing many featuers that are now standard in AAA mmorpgs.
Come to think of it, wasn't player housing an absolutely MASSIVE feature of all ES games?
When I think back to all those cool manor houses I had in Oblivion with cool decoratable interiors etc......how is such a huge part of the ES series completely omitted from the launch of an ES mmorpg?
This is akin to making a Star Wars mmorpg with no space battles....whilst they came close, not even EAWare were that stupid.

Well, there we go.
I'm not fussed about housing. While I am not a decorator, I do like the storage and amenity perks that often come with them. For me, it's a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have". It's one of those additions that would be a nice draw in a later expansion. But for launch? I'd rather they focus on the core game and stability.
For me there has only been one housing that I truly love and it was..... wait for it ... wait for it... here it comes... SWG
No other game I have tried has come close to the housing and all that it entailed in SWG. That is how housing should be done.
Though there were some great aspects about housing in SWG that have yet to be seen in other MMOs, the one thing I didn't like was how free you were to put up a house in just about any location. Yes there were some limitations, but I couldn't stand how the desert of Tatooine turned into one big suburb.
I for one am very upset that I will have no home in which to store 60,000 flowers, butterflies and species of fungus, hundreds of crappy old pieces of armor, dozens of weapons, and a mountain of pointless potions. Call yourself an Elder Scrolls game? Pshaw.
it'll come in the hearthstone x-pac for a mere $60, but if you pre-order, you'll also get the ability to add an additional room! And for the low low cost of $100 collectors edition, you get to add 2 rooms, put up trophy's, have a crafting station, and a stable for your mount, but only if you pre-order the collectors edition.
Disclaimer: All features will be made available after a non-disclosed, predetermined, time in the cash shop.

All of these other games including the ones mentioned here in this post.... are truly just a waste of time. As far as the housing systems go.
I want the random stranger roaming around to be able to come in and look at my handy work.
I want to be able to place my house where I like. Not floating in the sky or hidden behind an instance wall.
I want people to be able to just show up at my house and by from my vendor inside my house.
I want to be able to craft my house & the things that go inside.
I want to be able to put anything I want inside my house. Not have to choose from a pre determined list.
I want all things for my house to be included with my sub... not purchased from a cash shop on top of my sub.
If those criteria aren't met then it is just a waste of resources IMO.
Again this is just my opinion.
Though not really "iconic" for the TES franchise, housing is a staple and I would be surprised if they do not ultimately add it.

didn't Rift add it a while "after" and isn't SWToR adding it a while "after" launch?
I don't understand why you are being hard on Zenimax for that particular reason.
