Sometimes I think Blizzard is just sending out little trolls to spread negative views about every new MMO. Wouldn't be a surprise, you already got mystery shoppers and whatnot. You know what they say, one bad apple ruins the lot.

Ya, leading up to the GW2 launch, these forums where full of them. It was amazing. Now those "people" are gone from the forums. Not obvious or anything...

Thats really kinda sad if that is true, that they actually employ people to do these sort of things. I mean thinking about it when I think of some of the haters that only post in these forums with copy and paste answers in every thread, I guess it sort of makes sense now, but in the end the product will sell itself by word of mouth if it is good. After this last beta when my friends were completely sold on the game, they are running off to their friends to tell them about it, starting a new guild, etc.
You mean people stop being crazy-hyped over a game a year and a half after release? I was actually one of them. You know why I stopped visiting the forums? Because I was having fun playing GW2. But that's waayyy outside of the realm of possibilities on this paranoia-infested site, right? The downside is, I never got my check from ANet. Bummer.
As for ESO, I actually think the story of you having to escape the nether plane was pretty interesting, though apart from that I felt like there wasn't a lot of direction. Everyone complains about these "Big" MMO's, but man if you're that worried about ESO, you obviously haven't seen alternatives like City of Steam: Arkadia. It actually shocked me how little I wanted to play that game after half an hour. Give ESO a break.

I was invited to the February US beta and WoW what a major disappointment..
But I must underline the intro in the oblivion world they were so so soo boring, Art, Npcs, colors, lore, quests, no challenge at all just one button press nothing more, no extra secondary quests or minigames, no sense of urgency..
Starting Island (it would actually be fun to see my character fall from the sky drop in the water and have to swim to the island but I guess that would be too cool and fun to implemented .. I guess being left in with a non interactive non context form is way more fun!)
The island was also so boring felt like it was heavily scripted , npc had no routines, In the very limited time I had, I encounter no dynamic questing(like find a item on the ground that started a mission, or a npc that pop up and started a quest.)
Graphics
They look so old and and above all the viewing distance seems so limited even at max on settings, there aren't even pretty wallpaper backgrounds , my graphics were in ultra and colors felt so bland and nothing pop up.
I agree for graphic they are very basic not realistic at all like some say and not quality also.
Combat
Boring not visceral or bloody at all, one of the biggest and worst combat in a MMO I have seen. (1st person wtf? seems like it's there to see how dead and ugly the game looks)
The boring part is because they limit you in so much way, but you can switch weapons for more option, not the best idea but some like it that way they say it make it more competitive, i don't see that but hey thats there opinion about it.
Bugs and lag
I got stuck in one of the main quests in deactivating some traps, plus the game was so so so laggy again I'm from EU and I think the beta was in North America still it was impossible to enjoy.
Bugs i agree there is so much of them, but the testers don't test they play, that is the issue.
No side quests, distractions or minigames
No need for minigames but side quest would have been niec but hey you can't even swim in that game
I saw nothing of these, fishing is just about clicking and looting no gameplay there, lockpicking is very annoying at best..
I just reached level 4 but I did put some 5 hours+ in the game but everything I found was just bland all npcs were lvl 3 like me and provided no challenge, I didn't get to try crafting since it looked like you needed recipes to do so, didn't found any interesting quest in terms of writing or gameplay mechanics
It seems like the game can be fun in sieges and crafting seems to have so potential but why is it soo boring? to get there
I'm a fan of TES but this ain't it and not even the basic features that keep you hook that MMOs have are present here.
I agree that if you are still not interested after 4 to 9 level then the game is not for you, i was not also but kept going till level 18 and still it was not fun enough to keep me, But it is a good game but just not for us. It is a fan made game for ESO fan's not for the other people.
They look so old and and above all the viewing distance seems so limited even at max on settings, there aren't even pretty wallpaper backgrounds , my graphics were in ultra and colors felt so bland and nothing pop up.
Kind of stopped reading and started to laugh....
If one has the rig to run at ultra, the graphics are the best in the industry right now.
While that last part might be hyperbole (not saying I agree or disagree with it), I do think the graphics have the potential to be pretty rad. I'm not sure why anyone would be so sickened by them. "Bland"? You mean realistic? Yeah, because I want every game to be rainbow TERAWoW. The game is pushing for a realistic feel, and it's probably the best one I've seen so far. Age of Conan was good in this respect too.
I saw no option to skip the island but isn't it important to the plot, obi-wan appears on the start? I remember playing EQ2 started island and that was very fun and engaging although it didn't tie to any main quest and was much smaller easier to complete, in ESO seems like the start island plays into the plot and is maybe too large for a tutorial.
And why 2 tutorial locations? I'm pretty sure the island could have been ignored and escaping from the prison could be most more interesting by putting the most game concepts and mechanics for the player to familiarise.
I saw too much distance fog on the island and it terms of colors, there were not enough contrast and other stuff seem not to fit the background colors, the thunderbeetle colors for example seemed quite out of place with the colors of that island.
At least with Final Fantasy XIV the art direction seem well put together the creatures, buildings, cloths seem to go well with the environment there were good bright and colorful contrasts, the same with GW2.
I think the stress beta was put in an older version of the game, the newer for what I read allows to go straight into the world.
For what I saw at least on the started island all npcs were glued to X locations, or some where scripted to bring barrels inside infinitely, or laugh at a poor janitor.. I was expecting something more SWG or even EQ 2 I remember npcs that would go into shops and fill streets, they were scripted but npc would randomize which script to execute so it gave more live to the game.
Maybe is the started island and the first prison section of the game that are contributing for the game to look like a poorly made MMO it's crucial that the first minutes of gameplay hook players, at least all of these games : GW2,GW,EQ2,FFIV,SWTOR tried to make a good impression in the first minutes when I played them.
I also have a younger sister that is a big fan of TES especially oblivion she got immediately bored played for 1 hour or so and she sank over 200h in Oblivion and completed all quests with multiple races XD, so I don't think is doing a good job on attracting TES fans.

First impressions are important. This is one of the reasons that ESO probably will flop faster and harder then SWTOR did. You have to draw people in right away. This is 2014; people have short attention spans.
I didn't have time to get far myself but I tried to make suggestions and reported as many bugs as I could. There are things I didn't like and that needed work of course. There were things that I liked.
The intro wasn't the worst I've seen. Not too original though. In the tutorial areas there were many chests ,bags ,soon-to-be dead NPCs and such to loot. This starts you off with a full set of starter gear, consumables. lock picks and crafting mats if you cycle through it a bunch of times before going on with the story. Doing this also gives you time to practice combat and get used to the UI and other game elements. During all this you also can level up a bit.
Combat could use a bit of "oomph". What would help is smoother animations with better transitioning. Blows that seem like they hit something and not just pass through them. Movement needs tweaking..again animations..frame transitioning .
Camera angles need some real serious work. They can put you in situations that leave you f@cked.
I liked the art style a lot. ..thought it looked good for the most part. Draw distance needs improving.
UI was doable but could use a tweak. The world and lore were good but basic stories/quest text were standard MMO fare.
I liked the lock pick mechanic myself. Took me a bit to figure it out though it was actually pretty simple once I realized what was required. . Just need to build the skill.
I pre-ordered a while ago and will play it at least the first month to see what they fixed..made better and just experience more than I had the chance last weekend. Who knows after that. Right now I'm enjoying FFXIV and RUST courtesy of STEAM. The former was on sale recently which is the only reason I tried it out. Glad I did.
I know..not very helpful. I got to play 8 hours or so so that's all I got. Can't remember what level I reached ..just that I was fighting a bunch of pirates and investigating a sacrificial MUUUURDDDEERRR!
I also have a younger sister that is a big fan of TES especially oblivion she got immediately bored played for 1 hour or so and she sank over 200h in Oblivion and completed all quests with multiple races XD, so I don't think is doing a good job on attracting TES fans.
The issue here is that you are looking for an "Elder Scrolls" game that plays "like other Elder Scrolls games".
this is an Elder Scrolls "mmo".
I played morrowind and oblvion for over two years and I have yet to stop playing Skyrim as I'm over the 1,000 hour mark.
I can't play ESO like an elder scrolls game. I can play it like an Elder Scrolls mmo though.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

As to the graphics: the fog annoyed me to no end, too. So i manually edited the view distance to what equals "160", while 100 is maximum in game. The game looked WAY better then.
I just reached level 4 but I did put some 5 hours+ in the game ...
No comment. What is it, troll or hate?
Btw tutorial is just fine, world is very immersive, combat is fun. I'm from EU and this last beta we had, in my 15 years of MMORPGs, it was one of the best beta experiences for me. Lag was almost non existant and the only problem I had was "/reloadui" bug, which wasn't really a problem since using that command fixed it instantly.
He is right the intro to the game is terrible. After 5 hours of game play I felt like I was wasting a weekend. I wonder if they could tune the game a bit differently at the beginning.

People that are most successful at games are always weighing whether it is them failing or the game failing. The players that are bad at games always assume that the game is failing.
Comments
This is quite accurate. The entire intro has chnaged. In fact after doing the cold harbor run 1X, you can skip it thereafter if you want to.
Sorry to the OP but everything in your comments (while not 100% accurate) were items that were hot topic a couple months ago. Not anymore.
Let the thread die/lock.
