Obnoxious...It makes my head spin

delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

Well maybe its me, I'm a stressful person with a stressful job......When I come home I like to sit back and play my mmos in peace, some times solo.  Often I would be in the mood to group up with others or do a dungeon. This would be quite frequent but it should my choice......But Wildstar in my opinion is wayyyy over the top.  Everything is a constant rush.  Even the music is constantly hart pounding.

Now I should know better, NCSoft never hide the fact that its constant action.  For two years I've been watching clips of Obnoxious action, but it seems that it's hitting me in the face harder than it should.

This is only my second bata and only got two classes to level 8.  Sure that not very far.  I have the rest of this weekend to evaluate more, but I'm not sure I could take anymore, just to find out if it relaxes down a bit....My guess is no.  As for now I could only play an hour at a time at most !.....How can a game be action packed yet boring at the same time?....Well Wildstar does it.  Here is why :

- Quest are short bullets, everything takes 30 seconds to complete. yet you would run 300 quest by level 8 ( exaggerating ).

- Quest marker arrows. They take you by the hand with everything, but without them your lost.  Down hallways around corners, above ground and below.  So you cant turn nothing off. Your simply stuck with arrows. This is not 100%, you can click on the map, but the game is designed to use the arrows.

- Around level 6 you leave the starter area.  It doesn't get much better.  Quest hubs are EXTREMELY condensed.  A hell of a lot of POW and ZOOM going on.  Scanners scanning everything around in an obnoxious fashion.

- Everything is important or at least everything appears that way.  Everything is glowing and needing to be investigated. Being a Dominion Warrior Scientist.  I'm constantly scanning things on top of everything else that needs to be done.  I'm often getting side tracked with this yet it seems that I could never accomplish anything 100% for my path.....Yah, this could become easer with more game experience.  But to me its discouraging this early in the game.

- Warrior or a malee class seems much better at least for me.  My Spellslinger ranged class was a pain in the butt trying to aim my telegraphs on the ground like shining a flashlight.

- I can't believe I'm saying this but Wildstar has too much customization even at level 8.  It seems like they are trying to give verity and dept so advanced players don't get lazy.  I'm always feeling like I'm making wrong decisions, even at level 8. Sure, this is another thing that will come in time but it still feels obnoxious.

- It makes me hate the color red, and extremely colorful things

I'm doing a 180 degree turn around, I like Elders Scrolls Online better. It has it's problems like payment trickery, bugs and hard to group and play with friends.  So this one I'll put on the back burner for things to get fixed, but Wildstar is definitely out !

Excuse me but I have Wildstar running on my other computer in case I needed to refer to something.  I can't stand the noise so let me turn it off !!!!

the game to me is bland it doesn't feel sci fi or humours it just feels like wow for the modern age. the quests are boring, the combat is meh, the charaters run like ballerinas

    so say we all

like I said before you cant compare the two both are AAA but wild star something is missing.

if they were just not so stuped and arrogant to think they can as k a full price and a full sub.

I want to see how many players will they have after one year.

ESO will keep you busy for 450 hours just main quests.

    AND ITS FUN

ESO will keep you busy, unless you fall asleep while playing.

OP, have you tried some more relaxing games, since modern action games are maybe not for you. How about Bass fishing pro or similar?

Yup, I also found the game waaaay to "busy" and "action-packed".

I like the art style and the humour, but the Blam ! Kaa-Powww ! KerBoom ! sound effects and flashy gfx just get too much too fast.

I'm definitely too old for this game style, lol, I think I need to find a "Gardening Online" or go back to EVE or something... image

There is alot to do and it's probably overwhelming. I know I feel it too, I am similarly busy all day and just want to relax. I have liked Wildstar since I started testing it. I still believe it's a great game, but it may not be "my" game or yours for that matter. I touted it early as the new king to come, it still may be because it's that good, but for busy folks like us we want to relax.

I won't budge on my stance on ESO though just because I am overwhelmed by Wildstar. ESO is still a rip off to me. The main reason... Skyrim - I work for a living, Skyrim is just a way better value than ESO for all your getting.  If Skyrim did not exist, the expectations for ESO may have been met, but if you played Skyrim like I have, ESO is a step backwards, I won't do that.

With respect to mmorpg's there are some nice titles coming....

AA & The Repopulation & EQNext, they aren't here yet, but now is a good time to explore other genres.

Right now - I can't get enough of my PS4, battlefield 4 has been so much fun lately, yes fps, but there is more to do then just gun slinging, sniping takes skill, not twitch shooting, but actual aiming and judgment, I mention sniping to you because it can be very relaxing to setup, know your shots, take good shots, and watch the war go on from a distance and contribute at the same time.

You can also command though, you can swap out classes as you take over the airspace and change the other teams tendencies, each game becomes a chess match then.

One of my personal favorites is to sneak up on a tank, load it up with c4 charges, step back and watch it explode into a million peices, very satisfying.

I guess this game is designed for people with ADHD. 100% agree to the OP and it doesn't get better. I made it to 50 and quitted. And it's no goodbye because I won't see them again.

Elite: Dangerous - Space Exploration & Trading.

Personally I am not really interested in Wildstar, for other reasons than your own. But, I do not feel that this is the game for you. It is designed to have this sense of urgency or fast paced progression system to give you the illusion something always needs your attention and needs doing. That's fine, it will appeal to a lot of people but for you, for a man with a job and life stresses looking to relax this game simply won't be your cup o' tea.

I would suggest playing Final Fantasy 14 which might be a better fit for you, or something like TSW, they are not so much in your face and you can just relax and play solo if you wish and go at your own pace and get involved in the group content if you so wish.

Alternatively, WoW and Rift still have a good market on solo/group content as does Lotro. Neverwinter might also appease you as a lot of the fun from that game comes from the player made content which is just content for you to consume and enjoy.

Not everyone will agree with my suggestions, but I think they might be up your alley.

Well you said it your self... It is a carefully put together style designed to i guess emulate the flow you get from old platform games. It will most deffo not be for everyone. Since nobody talks about being a wow-killer any more it is a smart choice. Find your customer and design the game around that profile. ESO and EQN is doing the same thing.

This is in the end good, since variation is the spice of life.

Me i am more leaning towards WildStar then ESO but with a firm eye towards EQN och EQNL.

This have been a good conversation

I'm rather Meh about wildstar, played the beta, its not bad, just didnt find it very exciting. Quests where the usual go here and kill x or go here and get x over and over, felt very grindy. The combat, reminded me of tera tbh and that got stale very fast. i just wasnt gripped, and knowing theres a gear grind to rival a korean mmo as endgame is very off-putting especially since just getting to 50 is a long grind.

Don't dislike it, but not in love with it, Same Crap, different Shovel.

Only thing that reminds me of wow is the appearance and thats about it, which i didnt mind the look, its the feel.

Have to agree with another post -- comparing Wildstar to ESO is like apples to oranges; I enjoy playing both. To me, Wildstar is reminiscent of Looney-Tunes cartoons. Its very fast paced; frenetic. But it's goofy fun too. ESO is a bit more serious, yet I find a lot of the missions/fights in ESO much more stressful than Wildstar.  If you want to distress, maybe you should play ANY MMOs -- they're ALL 'stressful'; try solitaire or something peaceful instead.

For me, WildStar was like actually being in a cartoon. That goes beyond saying it's cartoony. The whole mood and tone of it is cartoonville in addition to the art. It's like a comic book. But for those who like it, I'm glad you have it there for you.

My secret relaxing game: Euro-truck Simulator ;)

    lol.

TBH action games like FPS seem to be going into a slower paced style of combat since I last played them.

Where as MMORPG's are trying to capture the action.

I agree with a lot of what you say.

I have seen hand holding in games before but holy crap did they overdo this part of the game!!  Being busy or action packed is not so bad but have less crap on the screen, that would (in my opinion) make it more enjoyable.

I don't want to see all the stupid telegraphs on screen I want to see the mob winding up a big move and try to avoid myself.  I thought I would enjoy it and I hoped I would be able to play it along side ESO but oh well.

Going to keep going to see if it gets better but my hope is fading.

Nice parallel with old platform games in an earlier post,I liked the flow of the game, fast combat and colorful world - music could be improved a little. The humour during questing was nice too, I died more often than in other games and every time I did the ress machine found new ways of insulting me :) Hopefully there will be more relaxing activities too like gathering materials, housing maybe even fishing for people who want to relax - not joking,I enjoyed fishing for stonescale eel in Tanaris while chatting with friends.

Sorry, but there is NOTHING "carefully put together" in this game. This is like a REALLY bad cartoon. Game lacks EVERYTHING

Yea I lol'd. At your OP, I hope I like it more then you do, as it's my last hope for an enjoyable mmo for this year.

Kinda like the cartoons nowadays. Seems like everything is yelling and laughing too loud.
  • LoktofeitLoktofeit Member RarePosts: 14,247

Completely agree with the OP. I have been trying to find the word for it, but 'obnoxious' is perfect. The matrix-like scanning crap, the busy colors, disjointed user interface, and then the arrow thing which pisses me the fuck off.  The environment is so busy, confusing and unintuitive that you actually HAVE TO use the arrows a lot of times. Worse, they made the arrow a 3 second blink, so you in some situations you're just re-enabling the arrow over and over just to find a location that is 100 steps away.

The cheesy "DOUBLE KILL" stuff seems really out of place and the level up animation is supposed to be ... well, I'm not sure what they were going for.

Wildstar is a collection of really good ideas, hidden beneath a truly obnoxious user experience.

Yeah, nothing at all like those nice quite cat and mouse or roadrunner cartoons where they were constantly trying to kill each other or watching a stalker/rapist skunk go after cats...

You have officially entered the "GET OF MY LAWN" days of your life.

Forgot about double kill, just that I enjoy it - time to reinstall unreal tournament again, still the best fps for me

"You have officially entered the "GET OF MY LAWN" days of your life." lmao that's the second time I've heard something like that in the past 2 months lol.

I watched Transformers, they watch Sponge Bob. Optimus Prime was not silly or obnoxious.
