Ive experienced the same thing at Gamestop. And yes like everyone says they gave away your code.
What I find surprising is that companies still use Gamestop for their brick and mortar locations. Okay well I do, but these problems happen a lot and it does reflect badly on Zenimax whether its their fault or not.
Zenimax is paying a company to box and ship the physical editions out. Why not then offer on their website to ship direct say three days before the code becomes active. Yes, it will cost more money to ship individual. But is that still more expensive than giving Gamestop a cut of the games price? And if they're smart they can get people to subsidize the shipping.
They could do someyhing like, "If you pre-order the box blah-blah-blah edition before Jan 31st, 3 day ground shipping is free. If you order after Jan 31st you will be charged $7 for shipping and handling."
I bet in the end Zeni makes more money. The only reason to use a brink and mortar is because Gamestop will prebuy somemany units of the game. So developers get a nice cash influx, but at a lower profit than selling it themselves. To top it off gamestop will have a certain buy back option also. It really makes no sense in my opinion.
To the OP even though I dont think its Zenimaxs fault, they should step up and grill whoever their contacts ass is over at GameStop. I remember when this happened with Warhammer preorder codes and Mark Jacobs ripped some people a new one over at GS, and offered if it still didnt get resolved then Mythic would take care of it.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
Well, I guess problem has been resolved. Cancelled order, purchased Digital Imperial from greenman for $64 instead. I know it's just 2 days, but it didn't sit right with me and I didn't want gamestop thinking what they did was cool. Oh well, guess they saved me $45.
Glad you found an alternative, although you do miss out on the physical CE stuff (hope that wasn't too important to you). It's really sad that we as gamers have to put up with if we want physical copies of games. I've long switched to digital orders only, but I do miss some of the artbooks and statues I used to get when I did get a CE.
Alternatively, I've pre-ordered physical copies from Target and Best Buy with great success in the past.
Yep they just did that to me, I bought the downloadable one that was suppose to have 5 days. They gave me that code and it was three days, I asked the guy why, and he said well we will send you the 5 day one some time. Then i called back and they told me they wont refund me, and they cant get me the 5 day.
I am putting it into the BBB put one in with me, maybe if we al do they will be stoped
I pre-ordered the physical imperial edition in January when it was announced, finally got my code from gamestop after waiting patiently. It was a 3 day code.
So I called Gamestop and they said, "sorry we ran out of 5 day codes" which I'm a bit confused how they ran out of a code that should be associated with my purchase. Anyway, they told me to contact Zenimax, so I did.
And after getting my response (which was timely) from Zenimax I am baffled. How do they not have the ability to grant my account the full 5 day early access? Aren't they the ones who made the game? The CS rep is now telling me that I have to contact Gamestop again and basically just keep asking for managers until they find a code to give me.
It's just 2 days, I get that and I'm less upset than I probably sound, it's just a bit irritating that I paid for a list of goods and am not receiving what I paid for. Anyway, I'll give it another go with Gamestop and see if they can right their wrong, bleh hate sitting on the phone for nonsense.
One of my friends works at a Gamestop and its common that employees give codes to friends and regular customers. Sometimes even the staff take them for themselves. As my friend told me, they get a set amount of codes for each promotion but the managers think its better business sometimes to give them to their big spenders to keep them coming back. Sad part is if they gave away your code, there isnt much they can do at this point to make it right with you. Personally I would file a Better Business complaint as this kinda of behavior needs to stop. This is one of the reasons I dont buy from stores. I buy from web stores like GMG or direct from the game company.
Gamestop employees tend to be minimum wage gamer bums who steal shit from pre-orders.

This. Don't blame Zenimax. They gave Gamestop the codes and Gamestop decided to screw you.
You can, however, demand a full refund from Gamestop and order it from another store for the 5 days if it's a big deal to you. They are, after all, the ones responsible for giving your code to someone else.

They have to refund you, by the way. Just threaten legal action. Claim your uncle is a lawyer or something. Or if you're really a go-getter, just threaten to take them to small claims court, since you don't need a lawyer for that.
It's fraudulent business practice to sell someone the wrong thing (while claiming to sell something else) and not deliver. In the event this occurs, businesses are REQUIRED by law to give you a full refund. I had to do this in the past when a business (yes Gamestop) was giving me trouble. I went onto my state's (Utah) website for laws regarding refunds, and printed out the section regarding defective/not as described products.
They didn't give me any problems after I read that out to them.

Yeap, refund it...then go preorder, gamefly has the 20% off discoutn still going so you can get the imperial edition for $63 bucks...go go go...lol

How do you know looking at your account if you have 3 days or 5 days early access? Mine just says Early Access, period. Nothing to indicate I have purchased the Imperial Edition.

The BBB is a scam lol, they were outed years ago on 20/20.
More people should know that by now... anybody in business laughs at this threat.
Oooo, the BBB, the might down-rate us, the same thing they will do if we refuse to join the club and pay the dues.
I understand folks are upset and need to get things worked out, but simply offering the BBB as anything is pretty useless. Its like offering a banana as a tool to hammer a nail into wood.

Yeah kind of annoying, the only time I saw it say how many days is when you redeem the code, it'll say how many days on that little pop up and then your account will just say "early access".
If your confirmation email that you purchased the imperial edition with came with the key code in it you're safe and will have 5 days.

As for gamestop, Damn kids stole ma funz!
Thanks Rusque. Yeah I stopped doing business with GameStop years ago when they burned me. Hopefully you can get this worked out some way.
I know you've already cancelled and ordered from another retailer, but you need to contact GameStop corporate and let them know that they lost your business, why, and which store is responsible.
This won't resolve this issue, but it might begin an action that in the future prevents another fellow gamer from being screwed.
This is a new low for game stop, I asked for their name to put them on the BBB, they sent me to a manager, who said he had the code. He gave me a code, and I put it in and it didnt work. I told him that, he said he would email me the code with the details. I called Zen and they told me it was a bad code. So he just gave me a bad code, to get me to stop I guess.
Ok I found out where to find out how many days early access you have on your account page. It is listed under the Billing History. It will show the date the key was added, along with the key and how many days.
Here is the game stop guy selling the 5 day codes. So now we have to buy 5 day codes for 5 more dollars. Son of a bitch i tell you what, I am never buying anything from game stop.

Youre right. The BBB is hardly a threat, and noone takes them seriously these days. A much better threat now is to tell them you will out them on Facebook and Twitter. Not sure if most people realize, but companies are very scared of bad reviews on social media. They can spread like wildfire and almost impossible to contain once out.
All this doom and gloom about Gamestop. I do understand everyone has different experiences, but the people that get screwed are a very small minority.
That being said, OP should have known there was a problem immediately at time of purchase. You should not have had to "wait patiently" for an early access code of any type. They dont need to email those. The code should be printed directly on the receipt at time of purchase. If its not there, ask them to redo it. If they cant (well wont, because they can), then get refunded and walk away on the spot.
I have bought mine from Gamestop, immediately got the code on the receipt, went home and redeemed it. No issues.
For those that were asking how you can see what you have redeemed on the account page. On the main account page, it only indicated "Early Access", but if you look at billing history, it will show you the code you redeemed, and will say 3day access code, 5 day access code, standard, or imperial. Its silly you have to dig for it, but it is there if you know where to look.
when you preordered did you just put a deposit or did you pay in full? I got mine a long time ago as well, and I paid full at the time. I received my code that day.
Here's what I did, do a digital pre-order from Amazon for which ever version you want they will send you an early access code right away. Once you have your early access code go and registar it with you ESO Account, then cancel your order with Amazon and go an order it from GMG w/ their 20% off coupon, saves ya some money and a lot of head aches.

It isn't Zenimax's job to fix Gamestop's screw up. Just cancel.
