I"d like to know as well, it makes no more sense to me than it does to you. HEnce why I rarely respond to it any more, I figure if people stop responding, they'll have no reason to do it. It seems more like defection to me than anything, focus on the negativity rather than the problem.

Firewall is only off due to being asked to turn it off. I use Kaspersky and leave it enabled most of the time, apart from when Im downloading. I schedule a full scan every week for when Im in bed.
Your kind of problems stem form a shitty set-up too most likely, maybe you weren't loved enough as a child? I dunno...or care.
Im running a home built i7 BASED rig specifically set up for gaming...and its configured well enough that it will pay ANY other game on ultra high settings all day every day with no glitches. My internet is shitty yes, but its never been as shitty as this.
You ran a Tracert and you said it's failing somewhere along the way into America?
That makes sense, they said their EU mega server would be in America until some time after launch, it was a really stupid idea IMO but it might be not your issue after all, could be GSP or ISP.

Sounds like another good reason to just pre order. My download time was very easy and fast. Game itself is good, not great. Will keep me busy until maybe Archage , world of battleships , and EQ Next. EQ landmark seems to be the beginning stages of EQ Next so they can bring income in while developing EQ Next. Archage looks to be the most fun but its Korean so will most likely be PTW like the other gold farming Linage games but that's ok if we can kill the farmers : ) Anyways, just don't make a archer in ESO. Dragon Knights, Mages and Templars seem to be the most popular in that order. Graphics are sweet compared to all the cartoony WOW games also. Think of it as a game that will get you down the road for a good 3 to 4 months. (until archage comes out : )
I don't know you or anything about your experience with PC's but it's been my experience as a whole that the more a person thinks they "know" about tweaking and tuning PC's the more likely things like your original posts issues are to occur. For me after many years of working with computer systems I prescribe to less is more when it comes to modifying my machine both software and hardware wise.
Again I have no idea what kind of "tuning and tweaking" you have or have not done only that there are a lot of people who can play this game on all flavors of Windows and MAC's without any issues.
Sorry I said "home built"...I meant "professionally built by a manufacturer of Gaming PCs". Just meant home built as in not a HP, Dell, Toshiba etc. Its a Chillblast system and came extremely well reviewed by the UK PC gaming magazines.
It seems that the problem is that MOST people are experiencing significantly slower downloads than their ISP usually allows. However, for most people this is not an issue as their usual speed is sufficiently high for them not to really notice.
Its those of us with less than 5mb internet speeds that are really really suffering. If you have a 100mb connection and you're getting 10mb DL....its still fast enough to not care.
Yeah, it makes sense. But I play Tera on a NA server with far far higher downloads of patches etc and only on average about 90ms latency.
You'd think they could have implemented some kind of peer to peer download system like other games use.
