    This is precious :)

It's like the first time my kid told a joke and I got to realize that she was actually a human being and not just some whiney demanding noisy thing.

Yes Virginia, you must tell them how you are going to pay before you get your free 30 - Days.  That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked pretty good so far.

It's good to see you guys rage about it though.  That's the part that's like watching my kid grow up.  Because way back when they did this in EQ1 (LOL which just turned 15 Last month!) all of us who fell for the old "Free 30 Days okie doke" were raging about it just as hard.

Of course it never did any good.  But it's still pretty cool to see history repeat itself like this.

wondeful!  That means they will stop asking for CC info then, you know, since it's free and all... and someone paid money for the discs already.

Yes but upfront charge of fee isn't the standard.

Anyways this problem has been fixed please close this topic.

How did it get fixed please enlighten me?

You won't be charged when using your CC and debit card now and those who have been are getting their money back. So problem solved.

If the world was "Perfect" and criminals did not exist. They won´t have to resort to these kind of Security messures.

But as we all know. The world isn´t Perfect. And People get their credit cards stolen, accounts hacked, yada yada.

If they didn´t do this. Then People start complaining the Companies Security sucks and they don´t do enough against fraude.

A Company can never do it right! People will always complain and continue to do so! /shrug

Why would people just willingly give their credit card info away then .. just because it's standard, and all they have to do it apply it, then remove it (while it's still backed up and never erased)?

Naturally, the safest place to keep a copy of your credit card is on an external database.  All for a free month.

Not so free when your info is shareware I guess.

hmmm... Could you call my bank then and let them know to release the $14.99 transaction on my account, since this has been "fixed."

I'm confident this will work out in the end, and I'm not terribly concerned about the $15, but this is a very amateurish mistake, that will likely cost them fairly heavily.  Coupled with the typical mmorpg launch bugs, and the recent "controverseries" over a paywall race and the last minute addon nerf, this is shapely up to be a rather rocky launch as far as the pr front is concerned.  Just wait until the content locusts start chiming in.

I'm rather puzzled by the mmorpg industry's inablilty, or unwillingness, to learn from industry mistakes/experiences.  It's not as though the sub side of the mmorpg business is new, how are they finding new ways to screw up the one tried and true aspect of p2p games?!

I will play it when it hits free to play in six months. I mean come on it's day one and the game already is selling mounts through cash shop. They are going to milk the shit out of this game and than hit it with f2p conversion. Atleast in 6 months they will have bugs kinked out.

I got to ask - where do you guys find this cash shop?

I have actually - and not because I want to support cash shops - tried to look around to find it, without any luck. So it is hidden very well - unless, of course - the cash shop is on their website and not in-game...

Oh well yeah, I just checked out their website... And they got a cash shop.

I gotta admit though, it is somewhat cheap to use it.

I got the standard game for 34€ , and I can see Imperial Edition costs 80 euro for new.

But I can upgrade to imperial edition for 24 €, so I actually got imperial edition for 58 €.

As per Mike Bitton on one of the many many other threads about this that have already been locked:

"I feel like there is a heavy case of selective memory going on around here. As many others have stated, requiring billing information (game card or credit/paypal) in order to activate your account has been standard practice for sub-based MMOs for probably as long as they have been around. Manufactured outrage over non-issues may as well be trolling for a rise out of people"

So that is a non issue.

There were a few people that were charged IN ERROR, that bug has now been fixed and the people refunded. Another non issue.

Pretty much every P2P MMO do this. You have to input your CC details to be able to play the free month. I don't understand the drama here.

Also, I used Paypal, and wasn't charged. It says that I will pay next month, not before.

I had a small issue with this as I bought my copy from GamersGate. Turns out the early access key is NOT the same as game key. It also doesn't include explorer's pack bonuses. So I was unable to set up my sub. I figured this out eventually and now I have a shit load of maps in my backpack. Like it's not already filled with blues and set items (gonna just deconstruct those).

Anyway, back to the point, I had no issues whatsoever to set up a sub once I activated the real game (you can't do that with early access key) via PayPal but I did get charged (checked it on my Internet bank). It's okay though, as long as I get a bonus free month. And since I was spending money I though what the hell, I'll buy that Palomino horse as well.

Weird they decided to complicate it a bit, but honestly, everyone who didn't have to deal with Square Enix account website don't know what real hell is.

You do not pay for the 30 days they remain free so what do people not understand i wonder?

I can understand your point about insering infos in a database but if that is a concern for you just dont play a sub game you will have to enter the infos at some point anyways.

So who would really care about giving infos out? I think people like goldsellers they do not want to be known so forcing you to give your infos from the get go might be a small help against goldsellers.

    This..

People still need to know the best way to handle this, and locking threads keep the problem going.

Whilst other MMOs require billing information, they do not take (or test) the full payment until after the 30 days is up.

Even Zenimax realise that this is a problem, and so if anybody is unable to get access to their 30 FREE days then to contact CS.

Upon setting up your subscription plan you may see an initial transaction against your account however this transaction is only temporary. The charge represents an authorization check against the account provided and will be removed once the authorization check is complete.

Exceptions to this general rule are Webmoney, ideal, PaySafeCard, and Giropay.

    [Update]
We want everyone who purchased ESO to have immediate access to the included 30 days of ESO game time. In the event that you enter your payment information for authorization and the transaction cancels due to lack of funds in your account, please
contact our Support Team. We’ll work with you to ensure you have access to your included 30 days of game time.

Please ensure that you have attempted to enter payment information and had the transaction fail due to lack of funds before submitting a help request. We will get you into the game and playing as soon as possible.

We require you to choose a subscription option and enter valid payment information. For credit cards, debit cards and PayPal there is no charge made until after your included 30 days of game time has expired. For these payment methods, there is an authorization check performed to ensure the payment method is valid. You may see a temporary account authorization hold put on funds in your account while the verification completes. Usually this authorization hold lasts a short period of time before being removed. It can vary from bank to bank.

If you prefer to use one of the following payment methods, payment is processed at the time of selecting your preferred subscription plan.
