Get used to it, once the numbers start getting released by Zenimax, you will see much much more of these posts of millions of subs.
Honeslty, if they had 2 million copies already, they'd be talking about for sure.
Also, i do expect F2P in 1 year alittle bit, not from failure, but because it might make more money.
- Box + sub helps return the investment, but will see a decrease in players across time, and the business model means it can't gain more people (unless there's an xpac,a nd even then). The cash shop will probably grow, but has to stay limited because of sub.
- Go F2P, and the people that have subbed for 12 months will keep subbing if there's an option, you now get an influx on players trying the game out, if not again, and can have more people becuase it's free, and finally, the cash shop can grow with a few more options since it's F2P. They might lose some from alienating them, but gain more.
I wouldn't be suprised at all if Zenimax is looking at TOR's financials. But, if has enough subs and cs influx, it'll stay that way. On the other hand, even if the game is making enough money, and they see F2P might rank in more, they'll switch.
Of course, that doesn't factor the console business model transfer and how it'd work. We'll have to wait and see of course.
I guess the plummet on Amazon's top-sellers (US) is a good sign of it quickly gaining market majority! No one's left to buy it, obviously. On the flip its doing pretty well on the UK side, where its selling pretty nicely at the moment.
It doesn't offer anything different or revolutionary compared to WoW or Everquest 1/2. What makes someone think this will go down any differently than all the other MMOs released since 2004? Same game, different skin. If you've played one, you've played them all.
Originally posted by flizzer I suspect most people understood the box sales on launch and pre-order would do well, but this is a box sale+sub+ possible cash shop?. I don't see anything in this game worth that. I still believe this is heading f2p within a year? or so.
Where do get info about cash-shop the are no info about cash-shop add to ESO and honest if i would guess WoW will get F2P before ESO why well the have already 3 button to there cash-shop in game beside i love people like you that you can be so good at predict future for game that been out for what 5 day after it is official release serious due stop playing analyst.
For you have no proof that ESO is go F2P which a year for if you did you tell us why you think so.
I think we will see more people play ESO until WildStar then ESO number will drop a little but it will still a lot of people play ESO and drop when WoW new expansion well be release so we will lose some more people for the are those who just play ESO and WildStar for the are wait for WoW new expansion. But i think ESO will be game that well be around and P2P for what one of big strong point in ESO is there mega servers which wont make game feel empty when we lose player see even GW2 have announce the go for mega servers.

So ZeniMax most have done something right with ESO if other mmo game is take after them.
Those GW2 developments were in the making from more than a year ago, long before ESO was even of relevance or on anyone's radar.
He, who knows... Maybe the GW2 devs decided last week to emulate the mega server feature from ESO, modifying their architecture in a couple of weeks. Hehehe!
If they really wanted to grab a players attention, they would have made the starter areas more interesting instead of the snoozefest they are. I bet they lost a lot of potential players there which isn't exactly inspiring for a new MMO is it.
Animation does not come more dated and stilted looking than it does in ESO. It even rivals 10 year old games for that particular accolade. Have you SEEN a bow being used in game? Urrgh....
ESO animation also has the "stick up butt" syndrome, it's something you see with most Hero Engine derivitives...along with the inability of the engine to support chat bubbles at all or nameplates very effectively.
Totally agree, one of the things that put me off and I doubt it will ever be fixed. I just can't play a game that has such low production values.
Terrible physics.
Horrible Combat.
Awful writing.
Poor voice acting.
Stiff animations.
Mediocre graphics engine.
Sorry, but as much as I wish this would have been the treatment Elder Scrolls deserved, they simply it did not deliver.

Totally agree. This has to be the most boring and uninspired starting quest I have seen. The writing is just terrible. Mass slave uprising, yet everyone seems to chill around the area. You are supposed to be the chosen saving the world but you get no clue as to what exactly you are supposed to do or save the world from. The story is as dull as the grey on grey environment.
Utterly disappointing.
"Give players systems and tools instead of rails and rules"
One source recently listed, 3 days after release on the 4th, a ranking that placed ESO at the TOP of a WEEKLY sales list for PC AND MAC titles worldwide. That was #1 for US and the world. At the time it was #7 in the EU.
Another more up to date article has already moved it's ranking up to #2 in the EU. With 4 days left to go, it's fairly safe to say it should top the charts there too.
How long do you think it'll hold that position?
Same thing was said of GW2 for months after the release. Look where that got them.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Originally posted by Bigdaddyx We already had several topics on this where people were claiming 10 million to 20 million subs. Do we really need another one of these?
10 million by the end of the year... Lets get the facts straight, haha.
To OP, yes this game will be as big as WoW was, having 10 million subs by the end of the year.
2-3 million subs from PC Launch is what it is looking like. With more to come from other games.
3-5 million subs from consoles when they launch. with a lot more to come afterwards.
By the end of the year should be looking at 10 million subs.
Starting will be around 5 million-8 million players between consoles and PC. Then it will get up to 10 million by end of the year, if Zenimax stays true to its content release schedule.
Keep in mind that on both PC and Console you have 20 million Skyrim buyers over the last three years, which atleast 4 million of them will buy defacto given the 4 million morrowind and oblivion solid base. the other 16 million will have started playing elder scrolls games with Skyrim, so the more ES mimics skyrim the more of those other Skyrim buyers will be drawn to this MMORPG.
Can you please for the sake of all that is wrong in today's MMO player base stay on these boards and eat some crow when you're proven wrong.
I get tired of these outlandish claims and when they fail to come to fruition their outlandish posters delete their account and make a new one and start hyping and following a new game and repeat. It's one thing to enjoy a game and love playing but it's entirely inappropriate to commit yourself to outlandish hyperbole to try and prove a point. This post will come t o haunt you as sure as the sun is bright.

I'm wondering what some forum users expect. Reading that someone claims ESO had terrible physics, horrible combat, awful writing, poor voice acting, stiff animations and a mediocre graphics engine is the very opposite of what I'm experiencing in this beautiful game.
Terrible physics: Where does this matter? When falling or jumping. When firing a ballista or Trebuchet. So far I haven't found bad physics such as the Elder Scrolls Skyrim flying ragdoll phenomenon when for example being killed by a giant leading to your corpse being thrown hundreds of meters into the air.
Awful writing: I doubt that many of you have actually read or listened to the quest givers. This forum mainly consists of MMO nerds and as such, we all tend to click away the text. I had to relearn reading and listening to the quest givers and very much enjoyed everything so far. The texts are well written and especially the story arcs become more and more exciting the deeper you go down the story, usually leading in a conclusive quest that explains more about the background story.
At the end of the day the question is, if the game is entertaining. I have to say yes! I have seen big drama in the main story line of Deshaan, tons of comedy with Sheogorath and the Mage Guild quests and several of these "What the fuc*!" moments in quests when it turns out, that something absolutely unbelievable and cruel just happened - example: A woman you just rescued gets canibalized when you leave her for a moment to search for her husband.
As a player you will only be open to such extraordinary enthralling moments, when you allow the game to immerse you.
Poor voice acting: I wonder if the forum member who wrote this actually plays the game? The voice acting is awesome. Last evening my team freaked out on Teamspeak when doing Spindleclutch dungeon. We all went "Gollum". Another impressive voice acting can be listened to in Mage Guilds level 20+ quest. The Sheogorath theatre quest. Again, allow the game to impress you.
Stiff animations: I'm playing as a mage. The animations are nice to see. However, I agree that for example the 2-handed weapon animations look weird. But I think they only look weird, because we are used to avatars swinging around a 2 meter long giant sword with ease.
When charging a heavy attack with my second toon, you can actually feel how damn heavy his sword must be and that the impact will be hard.
Mediocre graphics engine: You do know that you are playing a MMORPG and that these games never come with a high end engine just to please you and your high-end system? MMORPGs are about entertaining masses, and the majority of players has usually a 2 years old rig.
However, I find the graphics nice. The game takes a realisitc look and feel approach. Something I for example have waited for for a long time. Lighting, shadows, atmosphere and level of detail are great and let me enjoy the game.

I think that TESO has got the potential to become a really big game. Elder Scrolls is a huge brand in the gaming business and if Zenimax marketing department rolls out the one or the other campaign, I believe the game can reach and hold millions of subscribers. MMO nerds are already attracted and in the game. Summer is not a good time to launch campaigns for a computer game. My bet is that they will launch campaigns in autumn/winter.
But must it become as big as WoW? I don't think so. The 3-5 million players are enough to let the developers create more and more fun content.
I played the starter area and uninstalled. The first hour of a game is supposed to blow you away and hook you, but I didn't feel it at all. Its not a bad game but I had a strong case of 'yawn, seen it all before a thousand fricking times'.
Those that think there will be 10 million subs are smoking some of the good stuff. Realistically, they are looking at half a million subs. Tops. Like all the other MMOs that aren't WoW.
Initial box sales and the predictable dive in players after the first month.
all the bad reviews didnt knew nothing ? well also me loved the ROME II, but the reviews were bad, and i said omg they are haters, but ok the truth was coming from the majority and from the facts, when i took the game also on my hand and played for more than 3 hours ...

I think this is a real shame. I actually played the first areas - both the starter area and a bit further, and I was feeling so bad for having been stupid enough to buy the game. I even researched if it was possible to get a refund. Then I tried again for a few more hours and at about level 7 or so I had a completely different view of the game. The hooks of addiction just dug right in and now I'm loving it.
I personally think they really messed up the beginning of the game - both graphically and in terms of gameplay. It does a TERRIBLE job of introducing the player to what this MMO is all about. It's not the carbon copy MMO clone that I thought it was at first, and it actually has some very unique and interesting things to bring to the table. Very immersive. Some of the best quest design on the market. And crafting that is insanely difficult (I like this, some don't).

Turning a sizable profit on a quarterly basis? For a game that literally has no forced revenue stream...

Well.. i said the exact same about WoW.. damn was i wrong. Not that WoW was uninspired... but about grabbing the market majority. Truth is.. the masses like to get fed with mediocre, uninspired, but polished crap. So i won't be surprised in either way.
I have no doubt this game will go 'freemium' within a similar time frame as SWTOR did. No doubt at all, too many indicators, the biggest of all being the sneaky cash shop.

Can we skip the six months of backpedaling and just get to the part where 300k subs is a success?

Any thoughts on this? Dates are between 30 March - 08 April.
I know not everyone uses Xfire, but it still show some trends.
I remember when SWTOR or GW2 launched, they were in the top 5 positions long enough. ESO is between 16-19 position.
So are the ESO players using Xfire less than other gamers? Are the sales lower than many have thought? Or is something else?
