Lv 50 review about WildStar

azlokiazloki Member Posts: 6

I was in closed beta with my friends.

We pretty much have done all the available dungeons and PVPs and everything we were allowed to do.

TBH, the game is pretty much a copy of WoW except for its combat system.

It is not because WoW is popular and so I compare them both.

It is because the game developers of WS are actually from WoW dev team and some of them decided to depart from WoW and join NCsoft.

Graphic wise, gamestory, and even the factions are just like WoW. It is at least 80% of the game contents are pretty much somewhat just like WoW.

What really differentiates WS from WoW is its combat system, but if you are a PVE heavy player, you can hardly experience the difference because mobs are gonna stand there and fight you.

Dont get me wrong, I did enjoy my time playing WS, I mean who doesnt since it is so much alike WoW.

PVP wise, in big group fights, it is a little messed up because the entire combat system is so called "skill based AOE". If you live far from the server, you probably wont be able to dodge anything.

It is hard to judge the game just by one person and so I would highly you go try the game out yourself before purchasing it.

Last but not least, to rate the game:

Overall I would give it an 8/10 but originality wise, it is 4/10.

so true. housing is just like wow, limited single target healing is just like wow, challenges are just like wow, spaceships (plural and plentiful) are just like wow, dodging is just like wow, sprinting is just like wow, cb crafting is just like wow, that other crafting system is just like wow, warplots are just like wow, randomized raiding is just like wow ...

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

40man raids just like wow, dye system just like wow, no flying mounts just like wow, no lfr just like wow, paths just like wow, elder gems system (improved Rift planar attunement system) just like wow, no flex and hc raid modes just like wow etc etc

So i guess its not a wow clone. Its wow itself...

Sci-fi setting just like WoW Legendary gear imbuements just like WoW, dodging/double jumping mechanics just like WoW, complex customisable crafting where you choose the stats and the difficulty of each crafting pattern just like WoW, game lore just like WoW, AMPs just like WoW, limited action bar with room for 8 abilities just like WoW, jumping/climbing puzzles just like WoW, environmental challenges just like WoW, slow paced levelling just like WoW, anyone from any party that tags a mob gets quest credit for mob kills just like WoW, public events just like WoW, challenge quests just like WoW, no pet battles just like WoW, no buyable rainbow horses just like WoW. In fact... no cash shop just like WoW.

    Verdict: Thread debunked.

Its fair to compare this to wow even the developers have stated a couple of times that they are trying to create a vanilla wow feel with the game and some of these guys actually worked on wow in the vanilla days. My only complaint is I thought going into it it was going to be full action like tera but combat feel more similar to GW2 action combat

Your conclusion is correct. Though I heard the forsaken rouge has 1 additional hair style available.

I am pretty sure that the cartoony style alone and going from point A to point B doing boring quests is the thing that makes people feel like they are playing WoW again. It is just the thing you focus on the most, specialy in the beginning. No matter how much sarcastic comparisions you make, I also felt those games are similar, can't help it.

And yes, I know the cartoons are different, the style is different, and they replaced "kill 10 of this" with percentage etc. etc. it is still the same feeling. I hope some of you get that, and be more understanding. I know everyone tends to get so defensive about the game they like, it they were part of the developement team, or it's their baby...

i agree with OP on some degree, for me Wildstar felt shallow and Empty from anything that usually gets me into a game, the overall look and feel of the game didn't feel like it's really there it's somehow disconnected.

quests were all the same even when i did read most of them until i reached the point where i can't care anymore since they started to get so repetitive, where i reached the point so ok all that i will be doing from 1 to cap lvl is kill this kind of mobs go back, kill the other kind of mobs go back on and on.

overall PVP felt the same as well, stay away from red spots. get CCed 1k times get killed by 10 players bashing your head and moving on to the next guy.

instanced experience was OK, still i felt like oh i swear i done the exact thing b4 hummmm which game was it...... i can list like 5.

so it wasn't the best experience for therefor it's a pass for me.

So because "you" get that same feeling, means all those different things are same in both games?

Btw one of the things i wish to have in WildStar is that SAME feeling i had when i was playing WoW. This is what i have lost in WoW and i want to find it in ANOTHER game. The FEELING and because its about tastes, i like WoW questing. I like killing 10 boars. I dont like much reading quests, hearing voice overs or watch cinematics. I hate these things. I don't feel myself much of a poet or writer, but mostly a mmo player. I don't want these things in my mmo. I want them in other games but not in my mmo.

In my mmo i like end game. i will spend 99% of my total playing char time in end game, so i don't care much for the lvling process. I like tough dungeons and large scale raids with good looking bosses and mechanics. I like loot (oh god i indeed LOVE it) and gear progression. I like competitive play in arenas and i like ladders. I like to check standings in forums about world first boss kills etc. i like to transmog my chars gear and i like to brag about my arena mount.

I don't like flying mounts and LFR, i hate them both. I like good crafting but not rocket science crafting. I like conveniences like AH, i don't want spamming in trade chats or running around guild / players shops in order to by a piece of cloth. I also want my world be seamless, without loading screens and phasing. I like having need / greed options in my party and i want when i kick some1 to get the hell out of my group. I can say many more but thats enough...

So, can i find these things in WoW? Ofc i can, but i don't want them from WoW anymore. I prefer find them in another mmo even if its still close to WoW.

    Thats all :)

I personally never got a closed beta invite and apparently so did a lot of others, Which is understandable seeing your playing the game of chance to get one.

But the chances of 2 people known to each other getting an invite to beta is extreme, whats more as you said "Friends" which implies more than 2. so 3+ people all known to each other is clearly pretty huge.

Which makes me ponder if there was this whole "inner circle" thing going on the whole time which gave random people that signed up next to no chance to get in.

Wildstar can never surpas WoW lol. A copy can never surpass the original. Just look at every sci-fi/novel/movie ever dealing with clones. The clones ALWAYS get R3kt by the originals.

With that said GG Wildstar and long live Worlds of Draenors.

Read with understanding. All I sais was - I get that same feeling, so it means I get the same feeling. Nothing less, nothing more. I understand why some people feel like that, because I felt the same. What does it mean to me that there are differences if I get bored of the game, because it felt to much like other game I played. I'm speaking for myself only.

People attack every person that have negative opinion about their game, I'm just joining in to conversation, to try and give it different views.

    Well - not accurate

When you received the Closed Beta key - you received 3 more - to invite your friends/family and play with them image

    Just my 2 cents...

I got 3 different Beta keys through different promotions (being lucky and camping several sites like Alienware and Curse) and they were all 1-person invites.

Not true at all, my friend got into closed beta and they gave him 3 keys, one for him and 2 for his friends.

Everquest had large raids and as far as dye system...well any MMO worth it's salt has some kind of coloring system. Some games had that BEFORE WoW.

This is getting silly. People act like WoW is the first MMO invented when it borrowed things from previous MMOs. When people call another MMO a WoW clone it is akin to calling Titanfall a Call Of Duty clone. See how ridiculous it sounds?

They are both themepark MMOs, OF COURSE they will have some similarities.

    This ^^

    Totally this. ^^

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

Just get tired of that ridiculous "WoW clone" argument and I feel like it's starting to have a impact on the industry as a whole because there are so many people calling everything "WoW Clone!"

Yeah, except Wildstar isn't copying WoW.  And the fact that you don't even know the name for WoW's next expansion makes me question your take on things, anyway.

Thread title is a bit misleading.

There is no review of the game from the perspective of a level 50 player.

Just "hey, I got to max level and I think its a WoW clone".

Were you afraid if the thread title was "Wildstar is a WoW clone" that it would have been closed?
