Zero Punctuation's ESO overview

For those of you who don't know, ZP's narrated by Yahtzee, who is almost always cynical about every game there is. It's not really a "review", just a comical bit by him, so keep your pitchforks and torchs down. Check out some of his other videos to know what i mean. I found this after watching is MGS:GZ video. I do find him quite entertaining myself.

Holy Smoke he was harder on it than Joe was. Did he even mention one redeeming factor ,it was dead funny though. Had myself a good laugh.

Refreshing to see a review from someone who's isn't on the take huh?
  • udonudon Member UncommonPosts: 1,803

He hates MMO's so is this really a surprise to anyone?  Actually he hates anything forced Multiplayer.  For context go back and watch he review on WoW.

Everyone knew (or at least should have) that making TES into a MMO was going to mean things where going to change.  If you like the idea of a TES MMO than you probably are not overly bothered by those changes if you don't than you probably hate them .  It's really no different than when they got rid of the spell combining system or revamped the user interface.  The game series as a whole is evolving over time and some people are going to like what's it's becoming and some won't.

I do hope they make another single player TES game as I would hate for ESO to be the end of the line for this series but I also don't hate the direction ESO is going either even if there are more than a few design decisions details I don't agree with.

    Ouch!

    Funny though.

But I still have fun playing (in between the issues the game has).

I think people have lost the art of just having fun with MMO's.

Watch all of his game reviews and give me one that is positive. Even if he likes the game his reviews are negative.

Perhaps he is on the take from another gaming company or group of companies who conspire to discredit this game.

    Grow up!

It would be even more refreshing to see it reviewed as an mmo and be compared to other mmos rather than reviewed compared to offline, single player games that are nothing like any mmo.

Maybe someday there will be a real review that is more than "Not Skyrim Online...don't like it".

    But it was still funny.

Angy joes was about the game and it's content and had video to back it up. This "review" feel like he played it for a hour or two and decided it was not Elder scroll enough.

Don't worry! Bethesda is hard at work on the next TES. I don't see them ever stopped as it's one of the most successful franchises in history. The team that made ESO is different than the one that makes TES I believe, though they do share some resources.

Zero Punctuation makes fun of all games. That is his appeal. Don't get too offended by his words. He often brnigs up real points/issues but makes a bigger deal out of them. Either way, it's a comedy skit, though real annoyances, bugs, etc. are mentioned hehe.

    Funny video worth a watch.

    But to sum it up:

    1. If you're going to play an MMO, go play WoW or you're dumb.

    2. Single player games are the bestest.

    3. Other people are in your gamez killin' your manz.

Kind of funny but a lot of what he says about the game isn't even true. I get the impression he played an old beta version.

Would have been a lot better if an avid player made something like this :)

This is the only review I've seen that doesn't focus on bugs/phasing/account bans/dupes/warp hacks/bank deletion/200k/8k/5k tri-faction population splits. Funny as always.

As someone said earlier, Yahtzee is not generally a fan of MMO's, so this is to be expected. The best one could hope for is "it's shit, but not COMPLETE shit."

I remember his Spec Ops: The line review to be positive but I might be wrong :P

Yeah, well... We didn't force "them" to chose the name ELDER SCROLLS (online).

So now they have to deal with the kind of comparisons people were bound to make. Unfair? Yep. But they tried to ride on the success of Skyrim too.

That was his review of GW2!! I was so happy...he said 1 positive thing for every 2 negative ones!

This guy is a reviewer who HATES mmos and is forced to play them to make these reviews. It's awesome :)

if you take ZP's reviews as anything  other than comedy.....you're doing it wrong.

I likeYathzee even if he only takes the negatives from games he does so in a very humores way.

He doesn't even have to play game, he just needs to check several game forums and he can still give the excact same things he alway's does.

While I have run into some minor issue's I still am very much enjoying ESO. Still think some of the major issue's do effect more higher leveld sincemy highest of my 4 toonsis only 12. So hopefully most issue/bugs are fixed when reaching them.

Well, it was funny and not one of his few positive reviews. You know a game is good when even this guy praises it.

Oww that would be sad really. Imagine that people actually trust his opinion and that it actually makes people buy or not buy a game. I mean I do hope we do not have gamers like that.....

    Agree

Thats the price of  covering a game with a big IP in order to promote it and attract ppl. You cant have it all. By naming a game "ESO" you ll get your ES crowd and hype, but you will also get the criticism if the game doesnt meet the standards, both of ES series and mmo genre.

Haha, so true. I'm suprised people are actually taking Yahtzee's reviewing of the game seriously. People should really check his other videos to see this is what he does at Zero punctuation. Ripping every game a new one because it's funny.

Man, this thread's given me some good, suprise popcorn material.

    Electric.Shite.Orchestra

It soooooo fits. Negative or not, it wasn't really a review per se, just an opinion piece, but does toss out points here and there that ARE true. If you like the game, great, but liking a game and giving out passes to the devs and support aren't helping it any. Same goes for whiners... they usually end up being the loudest and actually get the most things changed in games, and not typically for the better. Somewhere in the middle there needs to be a group that can like the game, but will still agree with the bad points and bitch enough to get something positive done with the money they've handed over.

I need to quote this so people don't forget that ZP is a comedy, a satire of the game rather than a proper "review".
