....love the graphics , been amazed and have been standing still so many times just staring

the combat feel awesome, blocking dodging, heavy attack , light attack , etc

stories are so good ...makes me laugh or feel sad, or feel epic...

pvp , best there is atm

first time i ever crafted aswell ...great system

    thank you zenimax...

there is still lots of room for improvement , but your doing it great in my book

i rarely post on forums , but i simply do not understand the new level of hating that has arisen for a game i consider the best i ever done .

some people spend so much energy hating on someone loving.

Why you hef to be mad???

It was hell for me too but not in a good way. I canceled a week into it and deleted the 5 free days email. Biggest waste on money I can recall in years

Themeparks have come to the end of their cycle, we all know that. The industry titan is still in decline and losing customers faster than before. Even AAA titles such as World of Darkness get cancelled right off the bat, sales of MMO with TES IP doesn't sell well (I'd assume if it did sell well they'd boast it all over the place, yet I haven't seen such boasting) and now we're just waiting for the second tower, Wildstar, to fall.

MMORPGs are now gearing more and more towards sandboxes. Even the trailbrazer IP of themeparks, EQ has gone "sandbox" if the devil's advocate is to be believed. The era I have dreamed off is here, now all I need is some personal jesus to guide the way for the lost, so they'll accept freedom, risk vs. reward and consequences, so we can have real worlds of danger, where character deaths finally matter and players are no longer restricted by stupid artificial barriers.

    Welcome to the New Age.

You realize WoD was supposed to be a sandbox, right..?

A game that is advertised as "You can choose to play: 1. Sandbox. 2. Themepark. 3 Social coffee house experience." Is a themepark, have you people learned nothing from developers advertising this past few decades?

It would have had as much freedom as Paul Sage's direct quote: "You can either follow the main story, or just pick a direction and explore"

    Story =/= themepark.

    /facepalm

Best themepark? Definitely not by any form or shape. Lets see why:

    • Main story: Nowhere near as engaging or interesting as the main story of TSW or SW:TOR. Even GW2, while not having as good a main story as the two games mentioned, still has a personalised story with different choices and paths one can choose.
    • World design: Heavily zoned and phased, it gave the impression of playing GW1 and not an actual mmorpg. The feeling was a lot more prominent in the earlier levels, less so later on. The whole world design offers little replayability on the lower zones, unlike mmorpgs with mentoring systems (like Rift) or automatic level adjustment (like GW2).
    • Public dungeons: Apart from a few early on ones, the later feel all like carbon copies of each other. The whole system was reminiscent of the complains about the TES:Oblivion dungeons, aka copy pastes that only look good on paper.
    • Group dungeons: No complains on the actual design, besides being too short for my taste (but that was alleviated by doing all three for each level range at once). Tons of mechanics and lessons learned by other mmorpgs missing however, making those dungeons a griever's paradise, for people running with random groups. Tanking didn't feel very satisfying (mitigating wasn't very high) and healing was basically a LMB click + 1 button rotation deal (with the templar).
    • Quests: More engaging than your average Korean mmorpg, but again, others have done better by putting more effort into them. TSW various quest types (including investigations) come to mind, FFXIV had the unique vibe along with avatars that were showing emotions. Overall I'd say that the experience was inconsistent, with the Argonian area being great and the Nord area merely average.
The one thing that ESO hit spot on and is above other mmorpgs in this regard, is the immersion factor. When you were not pursuing quests and was playing the game like a heavily modded for immersion Skyrim, then you were getting the same vibe. Unfortunately, all the parts that made it an mmorpg were also detrimental to that immersion. Including unfortunately the 1st person perspective battle, a staple of TES games that was unfortunately completely useless in ESO.

Up to level 50 i would agree.
Then you get to see the lowby's zones of the other factions with increased health and damage upscaled to match heroic mode.

here the grind realy shows how lazy Zenimax has been.
The game is going to suffer greatly when the bulk of the players arive at this point.
here is where most subs are going to be cancelled and people leave in droves.

If you say the best themepark then have a good one, i say its the most basic created themepark and does not even come close to a Elder Scroll expirience.

its like Aion where you grind and grind and grind and grind and grind for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and more hours to reach the level cap and can start to have fun.

A good themepark in 2014 needs to break the pattern of boredom not force you to play a certain path to reach that level.
Oh dear lord once the casuals reach Veteran rank your going to see an outburst of rage.
Unless that is if you like 250 hours worth of pointless quests.

80 days give or take of pointless quests.
    pointless quests.
    quests.
    quest.
casuals are going to cry their eyeballs out as some bosses and public dungeons are going to break your desire to ever entering them again as they will wipe the floor with you and makes you ragequit.
pro tip - dont be a vampire yet or you get 1 shotted a hundred times - by fire be purged.

A good themepark doesnt make you frustrated, ESO does a hell of a good job at pissing you off around every corner in V3+.
I defended this game but now the honeymoon is comming to an end i can alrady tell its going to be a rough time for Zenimax in the upcomming 2 months to retain the players.

Oh and V12 grind incomming to you soon...

Not even going to bother with all the skill and passives bugs / freezes / crashes / infinite loading screens an the 100 other frustrated stuff ESO throws at you.
ESO is a realy shallow game and alot of lazy game decisions are going to be shown once you grind your way to V10.

Wait and see what happens in a few weeks from now.

Worst MMO in years. Very boring, bugged, without party in quests and the PvP is only a big zerg.
  • loulakiloulaki Member UncommonPosts: 944

    str8 to OP:

i have tried the game twice for 2 weekends .

i dont like this game or hate if (if you like), cause:

1st it isnt the best themepark, GW2 is already almost 2 years old and represents quest as dynamic events in a much more appealing way. Its combat is far better although ESO has better character develop. Aesthetics are far better although ESO has also nice detailed world and excellent graphics soon they become boring. Its PvP has for sure smaller maps than ESO and only this is its disadvantage, but they have also sPvP which is about fair gameplay, only player skill counts there.

2nd reason someone can hate ESO, is cause they hate this greedy subscription model for MMORPG, we are not in 1999 or 2004, the world is not the same. So people want to banish such bad finance behavioural from the publishers .

3rd people dont want more themeparks, Elder Scrolls series i read they are famous about their sandbox elements, why you turn down this ?

4th supermegasmart servers are bad from the player point of view, technically they look awesome, but when you come to play into such systems it becomes blant, the same issues has GW2 which implement this same unbalanced system ...

look BlackDesert how much offers from graphics to MMORPG elements and you will see why people wanna hate such mediocre games like ESO which claims they are AAA just cause the publisher put more money in ...

Other than bashing Wildstar and ESO I was unable to find the name of your great game.  I thought, "maybe I can find what you experiences were in ESO that made you hate it so much".  Curiously it doesn't look like you've ever made a comment that implied that you've actually played ESO.

    TL:DR

What game should I be playing?

Take away the bugs and sure the game could be fun and good but the best in years???

    Not even close.

    Please don't say that....

I have 9 85-90s.....and now they're selling level 90s which is just a kick in the nuts to many of us altoholics out there.  Haven't touched that game since the beginning of pandaland and probably won't again.  If that's what he thinks is the best mmo he has my sympathy.  And hopefully he doesn't take as long to get burned out as I did.

I agree with OP, for me it is the best themepark I've played in a long time.  I'm also not seeing the grind in VR content.  I group with my son and we are going through it fairly fast.

    no

    /topic

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

I'd say the best one for taking every themepark feature and being the ultimate Wow-Clone+ is still Rift.  Unfortunely, Rift is so.....bland?

I was hoping Wildstar would take king of the hill for themeparks but it's getting more and more disappointing every beta I play.  Time will tell on that one.

It's the game I'm currently playing, so it must be the best now. Obviously.
  • gramirez85gramirez85 Member UncommonPosts: 13
It's possible that it could be the best themepark in years. Been a horrible few years for MMO's in general. With that being said I played Tera,TSW, SWTOR, and GW2 til at least lvl 20. Couldn't even make it past lvl 17 in ESO. In my top MMO's of all time thought it doesn't even break the top 15.
  • EvelknievelEvelknievel Member UncommonPosts: 2,964

It definitely has some kick ass graphics and smooth gameplay movement, but best theme park in years? We will let history decide on this one, other than that, I am still having fun in the game and look forward to each logon.

It may not be for everyone, but we all have a choice what we like on our plate.

  • mysticalunamysticaluna Member UncommonPosts: 265

I haven't put enough time into Aion or Tera, but I think the best theme park in years is Rift. There hasn't been any competition to really contest that, but I think Rift is a lot better than Zenimax and ESO by far...

That being said, I can't get into any of these games lately, and the last good game released was the failed Vanguard: Saga of Heroes that is getting shut down end of July.

We need more mmos that promote intelligence and thinking, complexity and hardwork, not more single player affairs with no challenge...

MMOs we need to bring back include SWG and City of Heroes. We need to stop making new mmos, and fix the ones we lost. Which were, awesome great games, but got thrown away and abandoned!!

Wildstar might be a cool game and EQNext, but they went the wrong way with graphics, and so many things are wrong like displaying of aoe moves, and overly simplifying gameplay.

It's certainly the best ES MMO theme park, that's for sure!

I´m enjoying my time in ESO...let´s keep it that way.

It´s probably one of the most inmersive MMOS i´ve ever played...and i´ve played them (almost) all.

And this is only the begining.... there is A LOT to come.

Happy i bought...i´m taking my time enjoying the game :)

Maybe I'm off-base picking on you in this thread for something it's not even about.

But even if Wildstar or EQNext were ALL the things you listed and want,  you wouldn't play them because they had the gall to be colorful and stylized?

    That seems well...silly.

As for ESO Declaring anything the "best" so soon after it's debut is a little hard to take seriously, since I know I myself have gone to bat for games I wanted nothing to do with two months later. Let the game age and develop for a while before doing a thread like this.
